Anyone able to use HP 9100i RW in Win2k???

hp website says you can't upgrade/update the firmware from win2k so you must #%$^ing install 98 first, upgrade the firmware and then install 2k. is this correct? if so, anyone able to successuflly do it? what if instead of buying their crapy $10 adaptec upgrade pack, if i just use the non-hp-polluted version of adaptec 4.02?

i have to use dual boot partly b/c of this problem. any help will be appreciated. thanks.

Unfortunately I could not make the unit work correctly under win 2K pro. I did use several third party software packages including the one you mentioned. At best, it would make coasters. At worst, it could not find the drive at all. It was fine under win 98 however.

thanks ben_tech! it seems as if HP guys are being paid to just sit around or something! i mean what in the world are they thinking, not being able to come up with a win2k compatible firmware/driver update, months after the os is released?! hope some hp executive reads this and freaks out and orders his software development team to fire up the production of win2k pro compatible firmware!

anyways, hope there is someone who has tried this out and has got the rw to work in win2k. if so, PLEASE post the details! thanks.

I've been having problems also with my 9100 and Windows 2000. If there is not a CD in my drive when I boot up, I can not access the drive in Windows 2000. The drive lettter shows up, but when I double click to accesss the drive, it tell me to "please insert a disk" even though a disk is already inserted. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: My system is dual boot and Windows 98 does not have this problem.

A couple of things I noticed on my VIA chipset system:

1. Firmware update will not run at all on VIA chipset mobo w/ UDMA enabled on the IDE channel.

2. Firmware update will not work under Win2K

3. Firmware update is to fix problems with CD-RW not recognizing CDs

4. Been using latest HP/Adaptec software with no problems in WIn2K
