Well lets see I had a car similar to yours many moons ago.It was a 1970 SS 396 Chevelle i purchased from some tweakers for 900$.It was a fun ride,5 of us would go cruising around drunk
leaving rubber souveniers everywhere you go and the thing got third gear chirps thanks to a
shift kit.Ahhh the memories and the exhibition of speed tickets.

<< VERY nice car. as for imports, my friend's 400+hp(500+ with nos) eclipse gs-x can take you.

once i drop a turbo and build up the internals, my (hopefully 400hp) eclipse gt will be able to hang.

Aren't Eclipses front-wheel-drive? How do they handle that much power? I thought front-drive systems had a cap of around 250 hp before the engines started shredding the transaxles (but it's been SO LONG since I read that)?

When I was a kid, my dad had a 1969 Plymouth GTX. His was identical to the one in the pics. He lived in Nashville at the time, and he'd come get my brother and me every other weekend in that car----damn it was FAST. To this day, he wishes he'd never sold it.

The GSX is AWD. Much better than FWD or RWD for off the line. They do 12s in the q mile without too much trouble I hear.

bah
my friend put it best "muscle cars are good in only one direction....straight"

2001 Subaru impreza 2.5 RS AWD ...handles curves at high speeds like no other =)
in that price ranger of course

mur - ummmm where did u come up with that idea... im pretty sure they can have over 250 hp given if the tranny is good...if not aftermarket Auto trannys are the best for handling massive ammounts of torque

ie: Camero SS NOS after market Tranny ....roughly 700 lbs or torque watch it jump

This one is pretty well stock and just a collecter I keep in shape!

'70 340 Duster, Hemi Orange with Full 340 Stripe Package (VERY hard to find anymore)
This one has a "few" mods.....12.5 Domed pistons, Crane Fireball 3/4 cam, Solid motor mounts, Mechanical Lifters, Complete Accel ignition, Oversize 8qt. pan, 4 Speed with haze 360* clutch & Hurst shifter, and much more!

Both have won me a few trophies, but now they mostly get idled around town a few times a year waiting for my boys to inherit one each when they turn 18.......

I drive a little V6 Buick.. Wanna Race?

The first "high-tech" musclecar, the 86-87 Turbo Buick!

Distributorless ignition, Sequential fuel injection, 300hp on pump gas, from the factor, over 400ft/lbs torque..

Turbo goodness.

like OuterSquare said, the gs-x is awd. it would get a pretty good launch since he hardly ever spins out. it seems as though the car has too much traction. with an experienced driver (him, not me) it launches like a bat out of hell. with an inexperienced driver (me) it bogs down. so the gs-x might be able to take the chevelle off the line simply because the chevelle would spin out due to too much torque, and by the time the chevelle regained it's footing and started catching up, his turbo would kick in. plus if he's losing he could always give it a shot of nos.

wow, nice car. yeah, what a difference those $100 would've made. i simply love the chevelle - the posture, the power...

ToBeMe<--Those are to nice of cars to give to a 18 year old. Please, please hold on to them untill your kids are old enough to not trash them. the classics are getting harder and harder to find.

Me, I had a '72 Challenger, with a 340 TA block(minus the 6 pack), built to the nuts. Guy I traded for it built the motor in 1980, spent $5000 building it. Direct conection cam, crank, pistons, heads redone. The thing cranked. Never was beat, though there were cars that could beat me, but these mostly belonged to guys that did not street race there cars.

Wish I still had it, will have another some day...

LOL! I just told them they were there's when each turned 18.......they've been raised with these cars, in fact, I've had the cars MUCH longer, but they also already realize that the cars are only to be driven in the same manner I do! They know these cars are collectors already and help me on them all the time as far as cleaning, etc.. I tell them over and over that they WILL NOT abuse them........until after I'm gone at least! LOL!

<< I've talked to a few people around the forums who recognize my nick and tell me about their cars. Mine is a:

1970 Chevelle SS 396/350 hp. Red with Black SS stripes and a black vinyl top.

Now I want to hear about yours. Post away.
>>

My last muscle car was a '68 Mustang.
Swapped in 351 Cleveland built. 4-V heads, Lunati solid lifter cam,
the rotating mass was spun balanced and the rods shot-peened (sp?).
Red line was theoretically 8,000 RPM, although the highest I ever ran
it was 7,000. Close ratio toploader 4 sp., 9 in. rear end, disk brake
conversion. I had the fender wells tucked and flared for a bit larger
tire. Had a twin scoop fiber glass hood, bright red with white stripes.
A few other odds and ends (wish I had a pic ) Shelby syle rims.

I miss that car, I sold it when I decided to play with boats.

I had a 69 Javelin SST grabber model (bumpers were painted the same color as the body, had the spoiler that went across the top of the roof) I put a super T10 out of a Hurst S/C rambler scrambler and from disks off same. LOVED that car!! I still miss it ALOT. Kept me from going NUTS when I was in the USMC in the 70's. Seems like you hardly EVER see older javelins around anymore. Biggest mistake I ever made though was went I bought my AMC (1973 when the first gas "Shortage" hit), I passed on a 69 RS/SS camero STRAIGHT AS A ARROW not a scratch on it 427 4 speed for.......$995.00 ARGGGHHHHH been kicking myself ever since!!!!!

BTW now I drive a 72 VW square back.
1776
dual baby del's
rods are balanced end to end and over all
pistons are balanced
head's are ported and polished and de shrouded
s/s valves
counter weighted crank balanced to the flywheel
8 dowl lightened flywheel
windage tray
swivel feet valve adj.
semi hyd. DIAL IN lifters
solid shimmed rocker arms
engle 110 cam

built this sucker myself

The car looks like crap, but runs REAL nice and no one wants the steal it

not in the same class as my old AMC was, but LOTS cheaper to keep running!!

<< It's my Uncle's. He had me take the pics and put them on the web for him cuz he's trying to sell it. Thought you might enjoy it Chevelle! >>

Now THAT is a clean engine compartment. Mine isn't that clean, its more of a driver. What year is that, 67 or 68?

desert, fortunately mine came with the cowl induction package, and a 4 speed. looks pretty sweet poppin up and down, 'cept ya gotta step on it to engage it, and I'm not enjoyin these gas prices when I get 10 to the gallon and have to put premium in it. Ah well, I still love drivin it.
