Bold statement! Sounds like there is a story to tell.
An affection for limited dynamics, limited frequency response, poor signal-to-noise ratio and high levels of wow and flutter.
Or admiration for the sophistication of a playback mechanism that automatically misaligns the playback head four times per tape.

Purely speculation, of course.

For those that still typically purchase CDs... why? I kept buying CD's because I had no MP3 player, but now that I stopped I realized I don't need an MP3 player to take advantage of downloading music. It's much much cheaper and I can burn any music to CD that I want to use in a CD player.

did you read what anyone posted?

I'll only buy a CD if I'm at a live show and the album isn't available on vinyl.

I still only buy music on CDs, I've purchased at least 20 in the last 3 months.

They get FLAC archived and recoded to MP3 for portable use. Playback at home is from the FLAC.

I would not buy anything less than FLAC, and if I'm paying anything more than 50% of the physical CD I'd rather just buy the CD.

This. except I use AAC for the portable stuff since the compression is a bit more efficient, and I'm an apple whore so I can't use .ogg or .wv on my phone or ipod.

The problem, as it always is with a large music collection, is with organization. 1.5TB of flac, which includes a great deal of live and rare as well as my DVD-A rips. I've been working on organizing and tagging periodically since 2004, and I don't think I'll ever finish. Windows 7 introduced a new hitch, where it thinks the stuff I groomed in XP is "owned" by someone else. So if I have to go back and make changes, I have to copy to another drive, groom, then copy back. I frequently get frustrated and leave it alone for a few months.

Same. I also like to flip through the album art, and will archive a high quality scan of the cover art along with the FLAC rip. Will probably continue to buy CDs until I can buy FLAC downloads online.

Yep, just like to have the CD in a case. I listen to it once then rip it all to near-lossless...

I buy CDs because I want the best audio reproduction of the music I like. I then rip it to Apple lossless or FLAC.

I actually prefer Blu-ray concerts over CDs though. Simply amazing sounding.

yup, the last few were Ronnie James Dio - The Elf Albums, Thea Gilmore - Harpo's ghost and KT Tunstall - Eye to the Telescope.

Just started buying them, actually.

I used to just download songs (ex pirate here ) back in middle school, high school and college. Now that I pay for my music, I like to have physical CDs. I rip them all to FLAC for my computer and use the actual CDs in my car to and from work.

I also have a Zune subscription which I use with my laptop and phone.

There was a very long thread on this topic a couple of weeks ago. I'm too busy to search for it right now.

I do and get them off amazon/half/ebay. If my computer hard drive dies, I'll lose all my latest greatest music before backup. So I only buy music in mp3 format if it's on sale so I don't care about losing it before backup.

Oh yeah, if anyone has a Protest the Hero "Kezia" CD for sale, hook an ATOTer up.

Absolutely not. Most albums are not at all worth the money

I don't peruse the itunes store or amazon for mp3's, but if I wanted to buy, for example, an album with 15 tracks, I would be paying $15, correct? Assuming you're not pirating (not judging here), how is a CD not worth the money versus downloading mp3s?

I think he means he doesn't necessarily like all the music in a CD.

Which is where online mp3 stores have an advantage: you can pick and choose songs from different albums and artists.

Myself, I only buy CDs of albums I already know I like most or all of the songs. If I just like a couple of songs or just one, I use Amazon, iTunes or Zune.

I buy alot of albums digitally simply because I don't feel that I'd care for having the CD. But certain bands I'll always buy the CD just to support then (direct for their label of course):

Physical CD's - I just bought Arcade Fire's new one (pink cover).
Bought Best Coast's CD before that, and before that LCD Soundsystem's new one.

I don't buy music very often. I like classic rock and my dad already has a pretty robust collection so I just borrow CDs or LPs from him.

No reason to. Have fun jogging while you keep your Walkman steady.

uhh 1994 calling. CD players rarely skip anymore.

Back in 2002 or so before i got my first mp3 player, I had a panasonic "Sport" portable CD player that you could submerge completely in water without harming it, and I you could literally bang it against a tree without it skipping. I used to go trail running with it all the time, I honestly dont think I ever heard that thing skip in the two years or more that I ran with it.
