OK well apparently it was just the reboot then if H.264 actually wasn't enabled in 81.95. Odd...

I have the trial installed and it looks fantastic

WTF? Why does nvidia make you pay for the full version of purevideo? Shouldn't it be free?

I loaded up Da Vinci Code 1080p into Nero ShowTime and the whole thing was almost smooth as butter (just like two seconds worth of a pause during the whole thing) using 81.95 WHQL drivers. But...it could have just been because I rebooted so I'm not jumping to any conclusions just yet.

It says H.264 for this driver: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1116
And I'm using 81.95 WHQL. I assume it's in 81.85 as well since it's later?

damn my 6600 gt outa luck

If you are referring to the WMVHD clips on Microsoft.com, you need to download two updates to WMP10 to get hardware acceleration working on Hi Def WMV clips. The Hi Def clips on Apple's site currently require pure CPU power. No hardware assist for h.264, yet.

Since Purevideo decodes CSS encrypted DVDs, Nvidia probably has to pay a royalty or something.

public movie atom was found in the movie.

What does this mean?

New MP4 demuxer that supports that particular MPEG-4 atom. 'Atoms' are just identifiers for what data is to follow after that atom code. For example after 'hdlr' comes reference handler data for Quicktime files. That would be in the pseudo-mov you accidentically download that just links to the regular big mov file for you.

They play really smooth in Nero (thanks for the tip above) and a little jerky in WMP10.

Played smoothly even on my older system with 6800GT . . . with a max CPU usage about about 80-90% during the most stressful moments . . . (this is on AMD64 939 @ 2.7 GHz)

I've also found the program used matters . . .

How come when I I launch the 720p link my browser gets an error and I have to close it ? The 480p works fine. The others dont. I have a 7800gt, downloaded the latest quicktime.
Could it be my monitor ? I have a 2005fwp lcd which does 1680x1050 native res.

I got an error on one of them too...who knows. Just do right-click and Save Target As on the link to your Desktop then play it from there.

It plays with a little bit of jerkyness on my 6800GT-equipped Northwood P4 @ 3.2 GHz.

I am usinq Quicktime Alternative 1.67, which is just the Quicktime codecs and streaming plugins that can be associated with any player ( ZoomPlayer 4.50 in my case. )

Divx 1080p encodes play flawlessly though.

Ok just downloaded the Trailer at 1080p. Ran flawlessly. Not 1 single jerk.

Dowloaded the Teaser 1080p. Jerkiness when he is looking down through glass floor and when the camera is high up over the house and moving in....Otherwise, perfectly smooth throughout. I run my P4 2.6@3.2ghz. This time I intentionally downclocked it to 2.6ghz (stock), left HT on. I have 7200rpm 8mb drive, Radeon 8500 64mb videocard at stock.

Results: I checked Task Manager, CPU load never exceeded 83%; and for the most part fluctuated between 65 and 75%. I'd be happy to make a video to prove it to you but I dont know how to do that. Ram usage never exceeded 365mb. Sound never dropped once.

So I dont see how your P4 3.0ghz is jerky?
