Elijah Craig 12 year old can be found around that price in some markets. It's the best deal out there.

I'm a big of Buffalo Trace at that price point. Smooth enough that you can drink it neat, or with a couple ice cubes if that's your preference. But I agree with others, don't spoil good bourbon with Coke. The Coke can always be a chaser.

Regarding the Jim Beam-budget options....surprised nobody has mentioned Jack Daniels or George Dickel.

Jack Daniels and George Dickel aren't bourbon (according to them), they're Tennessee whisky or Tennessee sippin' whiskey. 12 yr-old Dickel is . Much better (IMO) than Maker's Mark.

I have a 750ml bottle of Jack Daniels Black Label that I've been working on for over 15 years, it's about 1/2 full.

I think it qualifies as bourbon. Obviously for me it's sipping whiskey, I don't just throw it down.
Cheapest shit you can find. If you're mixing it with Coke it won't make a bit of difference.

Jack Daniels is bourbon. Everyone knows this.

Most anything labeled 'Tennessee Whiskey,' is, in fact, bourbon.

It's not bourbon by law. Filtering it through charcoal precludes it from being bourbon.

So does the fact that it's made in Tennessee. Still bourbon though.

Using that logic, Irish and scotch is bourbon too. Just because it's brown and has alcohol, it doesn't make it the same thing. Btw, being from Tennessee doesn't stop a product from being bourbon ;^)

No point in getting anything decent if you are mixing with coke. Just go with whatever is cheap.

For drinking it neat, I'm a sucker for Bookers. I'm not normally a fan of high octane whiskey's. But this stuff is different. There's an amazing amount of complexity in it that many others don't have.

Rowan's Creek is another one that I like too if you want something different.

Woodford reserve is a great Bourbon for $25-30. Blanton's is great for 40-50$. Jefferson's Presidential select 18 yr is excellent at $90-100.

Of note are Bookers at $40-50. There are others like Elijah Craig, but I really enjoy the flavors of the above ones best.

I love the Woodford's. I can't imagine mixing it with cola though. D:

I prefer woodford neat, it's not BAD with coke, but not worth the extra $ over the rail whiskey if that's what you're doing with it.

Yeah I only drink it neat. It's delicious on its own; no need to bury the flavour.

Jack Daniels is not bourbon. If it were, they would call it bourbon (but not "Kentucky bourbon"). Bourbon can be made in Tennessee, or anywhere else in the US.

@OP:

I am personally fond of Four Roses, especially their Small Batch (which is a little above your price target). As others have commented, I would encourage you to drop the Coke and try bourbon neat or over a little ice. Maybe something smoother and/or sweeter: Four Roses, Eagle Rare, or Town Branch if it's available around you, as opposed to something "bolder" like Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, or anything with a lot of rye in it.
