I'm not in the market for a new car but this thing has been getting great reviews.
I might have to go test one ...

I test drove one, and loved it. As a matter of fact, it was the top contender for my new car for a long time. However, the local dealership took way too long getting one for me, so I got an Acura CL Type S instead. Of course, now, about a month after I get the Acura, the Subaru dealer calls me everyday to say that they have an extra WRX. :|

There's a guy on the forums who has one...I forgot his handle, but he was very helpful when I badgered him with questions about it.

test drove one... OMG that thing handles like it was on rails... nice little ride... but ended up getting a jetta wolfsberg... i'm happy with my choice... more features for the money, and for 200, you can mod it up to 190 HP... thats good enough for me...

I've been in one. They're quick and handle on a dime, but you're still left with Suburu build quality (sub-par IMO).

I'd check out a few cars in its class - Acura RSX Type S, VW Golf GTi/Jetta VR6, Honda Prelude, Celica GT-S.

The WRX is going to be the fastest off the lot. However, the others may have more personality characteristics that you may like more. VW is bringing the new GTi over here a little later this year with the 24v Euro VR6 motor and a 6sp! I'm gonna be all over that...

Just try them out

i like the vw's style better. We paid the Extra $1000 on our jetta gls vr6 to get the $0 deductible 10/100 BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty.

I personally think that Subaru makes the second most reliable vehicle next to Toyota.

I believe that Warcleric on this board owns a WRX.

Depending on what my employer decides to do about a company vehicle, I may be looking at buying a WRX Wagon for myself in January. Gotta love a wagon that will smoke an unsuspecting Mustang or Camaro

Subaru built quality sub-par? Questionable reliability? Heck, they are as excellently built as Toyota and Honda. According to Consumer Reports, Subaru is also as reliable as Toyota and Honda (they're Japanese not Korean so I guess that counts)

What you guys forget is that the Subby has AWD. That alone, if you can get it in any of those other cars which I doubt, should be a several thousand dollar option.

But like other guys have said the interior and fit/finish leaves alot to be desired. I used to own a Subaru so I know.

We mean build quality like how cheap the stereo looks and the effort it takes to break some stuff in the car, not how many times you bring it into the garage.

Subaru builds very reliable cars... so reliability should be no problem...

but the interior of the WRX does look very 'cheap'... the finish is not good or 'high class' at all... It's like something from a tercel or echo... I would have expected more from a car in that price range...

Do all Subaru's have this problem with cheap interior finishings or just this model ?

The impreza are plagued with the "cheap" interior look. All the Subarus are plagued with a bad sound system.

I guess when I look at all of the technology, options, and safety feature offered in a Subaru, you have to accept the fact they need to skimp on the interior or steroes to help meet the price margains that they do.

Well they could at least get better designers. Those damn headlights and the interior almost takes down the more important points of the car. Where do they get their designers from?

Definitely! If you had a car that performed similar to the WRX but had a plush interior, nice stereo, attractive exterior, etc.... well, you'd have an S4 and you'd be spending $40K+.

Subaru's gotta skimp in a few places to offer the WRX so cheaply.

Don't compare a s00b to the S4. Suburu could at least offer seats and minor other accents to the interior much like a Integra or Celica has. Right now, they just don't.

While I think the WRX is a good car, I'm definately not shelling out the $$ unless I like driving it EVERYDAY. I really need to go test drive a RSX... ugh

I don't think features like the radio were important for the design of the WRX. They did pay attention to other performance items such as the racing pedals or the MOMO steering wheel.

I'm not a fan. Yes it hauls when the turbo kicks in, BUT that's about the only positive thing I can say about it. It just has a very cheap feel/look to it. The interior was junk, seemed like a metro, or what I would assume a metro would look like, never been in one. Also when you hit the gas, it has no balls whatsover for a second or 2 or 3 till the turbo kicks in, it just feels so lethargic (sp?) until it kicks. IMHO I'd rather spend an extra couple grand to get something that looks/feels a ton nicer, with close or very slightly worse performance.

So the "quality" complaints are mainly about interior looks and the perception of "classiness"? I think the design point of Subaru is to built functional, reliable cars with AWD first and maybe the looks second. I admit the interior is not going to blow me away but AWD is more important. If the stereo doesn't sound right, then get a better one! ( A lot of factory stereos don't sound good anyway unless its a premiumpackage).
