Yes, my friend. I would also love an APU that manages maximum boost speed on its CPU chiplet yet the GPU tile is fast enough to at least enjoy the majority of AAA titles at 1080p with XeSS @ 60 fps. A huge cache, one for the CPU chiplet and one for the GPU, both 128 MB in size, would just be icing on the cake.

In future, an 8P+32E CPU chiplet on 14A or N2 would get me really, really excited.
Why? What is your use case for 32 e cores? If you are into heavy multi-threaded benchmarks, it could be a monster, assuming the power use and heat can be kept under control. Otherwise, not sure it would be better than 8 + 16 for gaming or general use, unless Intel can manage to shift more of the gaming load to the e cores.

It might be good on that one Spiderman game that does realtime shader compilation.

To be honest - It would not make me move out from my chair, even for a moment.

8 CPU cores(plus maybe efficiency cores), iGPU performance of RTX2060/5600 XT, within 65W TDP for 350$. Thats all is needed here. Thats what would be a game changer in my eyes.
Sounds like you need a Series X and a soldering iron.

What is your use case for 32 garbage cores?

Watch, someone is going to find out how to unlock them, and then overclock them like crazy while using very little voltage, and history will repeat itself as what happened when intel dropped the Core2Duo and created Merom processor all because someone decided to do that on the Dolhan laptop P3 processor.

They are already unlocked. They don't overclock well, they are built with density in mind and their voltage curve is steeper than P cores.

Yeah i know but it was more a reply in sarcasm because Joe was asking what we would do with it.
Which i totally agree, not much can be done with 32 weak cores, when we already have Atoms especially Xeon branded ones which are just that.

But who knows.

Intel might hire Kim Possible, and make things impossible, possible?

I'm not even gonna begin to explain how mad I feel at this very moment. In the animal world, evolution makes sure that the fittest lead the pack. In the human world, slimy, dishonest and utterly selfish politics dictate the outcome of any situation which is why the world is in the mess it finds itself in. Consider this post a wake-up call, my mighty super intellectual friends. Take back what's yours and kick the dumb people out of higher positions where the only thing they do is ruin it for everybody.

Ah. That's because society has graduated to the level of Reverse Darwinism. Survival of the most idiotic.

Idiocracy wasn't meant to be a documentary.

(Slight sidenote, egoism isn't really compatible with long term survival. That's a scientifically proven fact. Yes, I'm scared. Not because of disasters, climate change, nuclear war etc. But by the sheer amount of egoism out there. Especially at the top.)

Generative AI? Check the output very, very carefully for any obvious mistakes, unless you want to be embarrassed in front of everyone.

Most especially if it's something factual. "AI" has absolutely no clue in many fields.

I think the real danger is that the output might sound plausible to the ordinary layman. Unless you're a specialist in a particular field, it may be difficult to spot generated content.

Evolution is the interactive result of the environment on the organism entity. "fittest" means best suited for the parameters at hand, not absolute fitness, although certain developments are more resilient than others, i.e rodents don't need to worry about extinction.

"Stupidity" is an evolutionarily necessary component of survival because a perfectly intellectual being, not burdened by any morals, ethics, altruism...can create damaging results.

Politicians often have Juris Doctorates; as such, then CANNOT be considered idiots, although they certainly welcome the assumption they are.

This is the CPU forum people. Let's get the train back on the tracks, or it'll be time to lock it up.

Boring? Perhaps the desktop CPU market is right now.

But we have a lot of exciting stuff in CPUs coming up soon.

Zen 5 - Major architecture upgrade

Arrow Lake - Major architecture upgrade

Oryon - New High Performance ARM core

Blackhawk - The ARM Cortex core to kill all custom ARM cores

The CPU technlogy space is going to get very hot and exciting soon, and it's actaullt my great sorrow that we will not have in-depth reviews of all this good stuff like Ian/Andrei did at Anandtech once upon a time.

Arrow Lake - Major architecture upgrade
Not really. All the leaks tend to show it as nothing more than an improved Meteor Lake. Even Intel will advertise it as the first desktop gaming CPU with AI.

Zen 5, I'm very hopeful for that. That's the only good thing for me that will probably happen in 2024, unless RDNA4 and Intel Battlemage exceed expectations. But those are GPUs. Maybe Lunar Lake? If we get a whiff of it before the year ends.

It has actually been very sad to see the decline in AT.

IMO, for a site to be successful these days it must be independently owned and operated (with a few exceptions).

Regarding the topic, there has been a lack of real innovation for a while now. A big part of that is cost. It costs hundreds of millions of dollars to develop and launch a new product, and not many companies have that kind of cash to burn through.

Back when companies like 3DFX were launching new designs, things were MUCH cheaper. It was also easier because the tech wasn't so advanced. That is one of the reasons I became a software developer rather than going down that path. Even PCB design for motherboards these days is ridiculous. Back in the 90s you could prototype on a breadboard (note: I have a 6502 on a breadboard in a box somewhere).

I will disagree that the CPU market has stagnated, however. We have Zen 5 and Arrow Lake coming this year, and also more Apple Silicon Macs and some other stuff. There is also a high performance RISC-V and Qualcomm is dropping their 12 core chip.

Last year we saw a few exciting launches as well. Just nothing big for desktop.
