stuff like this makes me lmao. you guys all say that the BF series changes so much and whatever and you all want the games to be like the previous games, even so much as wanting the same levels.

But when CoD does it, it's sooo horrible and terrible.

COD has changed drastically from MW to WAW to MW2 to BLOPS, and even MW to MW2. Amount of killstreaks, perks, etc. People may complain about the graphics in COD staying the same, but gameplay changes are what people really bitch about. I would be perfectly happy playing BF1942 or BF2 with a new graphics engine and new maps. Same could be applied to COD4.

Its like trying to change the rules in football or basketball every year. It should stay the same.

You can't please everyone. BF3 is the best of the Battlefield series and it isn't close. I will be buying MW3 as well - it looks really good, they appear to have learned from the mistakes of MW2 like OP killstreaks/perks/loadouts. But BF3... I'll be playing this game for years to come. CoD at best will last four months.

I do pray DICE doesn't develop CoD syndrome and start releasing a new BF game every year though with minimal tweaks/changes. With the money they're raking in (deservedly so) this year it's not inconceivable they would go that route.

more killstreaks and perks isn't the same as introducing prone delays(merely an example) where there weren't delays before and other mechanics changes.

I'm not quite sure what this means, but I think we agree. Maybe.

I agree with the CoD statements. Give me new guns, maps, toys to play with, etc and I don't care about the rest. Sure, graphics updates are nice but it doesn't really add all that much to the game when it's already pretty good. It's also nice that you don't have to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on new PC parts either. And it if the new engines screws up the amazing and tried and true gameplay, then you get the BF series (haha, never liked any of the BF series at all).
Ive been a CoD fan since the first game and really couldnt get into the earlier buggy as hell BF series. BC2 was decent but was severely lacking in the player control department.

BF3 has totally turned the tables now, it owns in every facet; gameplay, graphics, etc.. CoD reached its apex with CoD4 and has steadily gone to total shit since. BF3 is now my game of choice and Infinity Ward along with their IWNET can go suck it!

1942 w/ Desert Combat mod > Anything battlefield since then.

so true. BF1942 (DC mod or not) was just so fun. Since then new BF games just seem too techy and fast. there was a simplicity to BF1942 that made it so fun. plus you had to get closer to your enemies to kill them. none of this up in a jet shooting at dots on the ground stuff.

and there was this existentialist feeling to it, like when walking alone in the middle of a big desert map.

oh and 1942 was funny as hell. so many moments where i was laughing out loud. like when we'd all get on top of a jeep, put some explosives in it, and drive like a bat out of hell to the top of the mountain at Iwo Jima.

that said i'm going to buy BF3 this weekend and see what it's all about.

The problem with game is not core gameplay thats fine, its the thousands of tiny bugs that just ruin it. I mean as a developer how can they justify the simply mind blowing things wrong..yet release it anyways?

1. Can't shoot through shrubs. wtf
2. can't shoot through chainlink fences. wtf
3. mouse sensitivity not correct. wtf
4. maps size not fitting for amount of players. wtf
5. Tell everyone 64 players, make conquest only type of play. wtf
6. jeeps fly through anything on the map like butter. blows up when hitting shrub. wtf
7. lots of loadouts don't save. wtf
8. Release worse than any bf game to release, even bc2.
9. Have 4 people want to play, can't play we can't join same server, get disconnected when we do.
10. Spawn and die, spawn and die x10 because they own all caps on conquest.
11. one person with c4 or rocket destory objective. Map over in 15seconds.
12. UI made for console, EA devs wowed by user made UI in photoshop. WTF.

tons of other things, that was just yesterday trying to play things i noticed.

Like i said before, game was not ready for release, after a huge patch hopefully it will be better. So far the fun times i do have, get out classed by the bad times.

Agree about not being able to shoot through things. I also miss being able to take down mcom buildings or the mcoms themself with explosives. I also don't like how you can't shoot through the windows of the humvee. Mouse sensitivity options are lacking imho. There should be different sensitivities for vehicles vs players and a zoom sens ratio or sensitivity also. #10 is the same as BC2. You lose all the flags you're spawning at base, which means you get spotted the second you walk out of your base/spawn. Makes for easy killings. #11?

Only disappointed that I had to post pone my build for another week :| So I got it for PS3 for the time being and i'm having a blast. Definitely agree on some of the balance issues though, but hey I guess it just adds to the challenge. As for the IR scopes I could care less if others have it or not, once you get the controls down and get used to the maps a regular scope can be just as effective.

Some gripes with the game are the laggy/rubberbanding effect that happens on just about every match. At first I thought it was my connection so I tried some other games and it only happens with BF3. Not being able to shoot through objects that can easily be penetrated in real life (bush's, fences, some windows, etc. as stated earlier). And the fact that I can't shoot a anti tank mine to get it to go boom! That might be a PS3 thing though so idk, i'll hold judgment till I hop on PC in a few weeks. So once they fix those issues i'm a happy camper.

Can't wait to play with 64 players though

This explains why a full clip of buckshot did not kill the driver of a humvee.

It's interesting how you can spray out the pilot of a helicopter through cockpit glass (re: the james bond video) but not the driver of a humvee.

This. I'm loving BF3 and will play it to death. But 1942 was the best of the series. No unlocks, no in game stat tracking, no freaking ribbons etc. Just people with exactly the same gear (read level playing field) playing great maps to WIN.

Yeah, it surprised me, especially when he hopped out and killed me when I had to reload!

I'm kind of in the middle.

I've been enjoying the game quite a bit for most part.

Here is my Con list:
- Web browser < really?
- Can't change Video/options unless in game < REALLY?
- no voice chat
- Metro and Davenport choke points (I just refuse to play these maps)
- Graphics in Multilayer not as good as some Single Player scenes/Preview Videos we seen.
- Upgrades/level system. I have never been a fan of this crap. I call it "legal cheating/devs keeping you int he game". Weapons/upgrades you have should've be dictated by the time you put in.

Overall, it's a great game, but not perfect.Nothing is.

I've had fun with BF3 so far but my biggest complaint is the squad changes. Why there is no VOIP for your squad, I have no idea. I also dislike how the squad size is now 4 and you can spawn on any squad member. Having a good squad leader who could direct over VOIP and not get himself killed was a great part of BF2 and really made it feel like a team game. From what I have played in BF3 that team aspect is severely lacking.

Edit: I also have found the way you customize your kits to be a pain, why can't we have the BF2 style popup when you die or in game with the map and the weapons right there. It was much simpler and easier to use.

This exactly. I think the game itself is a lot of fun. There are some bugs and changes that could be debated as improvements or detractions to the series, but overall I'm not disappointed with the game.

Even though the mechanics are for the most part ok, it just doesn't feel like it's being PLAYED like a BF game that frequently. Too many people are focusing on personal stats and not on solid teamwork. I know in 1942 there were always the people who just wanted to rack up the kills, but now it is encouraged and rewarded via weapons upgrades and unlocks. I think this is far more detrimental to teamwork than the lack of in-game VOIP.

That said, a map like Metro Conquest with a full server is just going to be a zoo no matter what.

Or having half the team jump on the wings of the bomber, stay on through takeoff and flight and then paratroup jump off over the control points.

Don't get me wrong, I am enjoying bf3. However, you make a great point and one of my biggest complaints. Why oh why do you have to get upgrades for each and every weapon and they are based on the number of kills wtih each weapon? If you've already gotten enough kills with a base/start carbine to achieve all the upgrades available, the you should not have to go through that all over again when the next carbine has become available to you.

It's a carrot on a stick.. just like an MMO. That's why. For some reason they feel that people need rewards for playing (and maybe they are correct, I don't know) instead of playing for the game.

All I know for sure is that I dropped 1000s of hours into 1942.. because the game was just that awesome. Not because I wanted the BFG4000.
