I'm waiting (perhaps forever?) for a free weekend or trial of some sort.

Should have played the open beta, which was some how less buggy than it is now. I never had disconnect issues or graphic glitches like I had since the game released. Not that the beta was perfect...

The problem with game is not core gameplay thats fine, its the thousands of tiny bugs that just ruin it. I mean as a developer how can they justify the simply mind blowing things wrong..yet release it anyways?

1. Can't shoot through shrubs. wtf
2. can't shoot through chainlink fences. wtf
3. mouse sensitivity not correct. wtf
4. maps size not fitting for amount of players. wtf
5. Tell everyone 64 players, make conquest only type of play. wtf
6. jeeps fly through anything on the map like butter. blows up when hitting shrub. wtf
7. lots of loadouts don't save. wtf
8. Release worse than any bf game to release, even bc2.
9. Have 4 people want to play, can't play we can't join same server, get disconnected when we do.
10. Spawn and die, spawn and die x10 because they own all caps on conquest.
11. one person with c4 or rocket destory objective. Map over in 15seconds.
12. UI made for console, EA devs wowed by user made UI in photoshop. WTF.

tons of other things, that was just yesterday trying to play things i noticed.

Like i said before, game was not ready for release, after a huge patch hopefully it will be better. So far the fun times i do have, get out classed by the bad times.

not this again, you posted that list before I think, and half of it is BUNK SHIT

1&2 you can shoot through shrubs and fences
3 doesnt make sense, have no issues messing with sensitivity
4some feel very cramped and insanse on 64, server admin should leave them off the rotation
5 they were straight forwards about rush still being 32 for months
6 by shrub do you mean tree or shrub with mine in it, becuase I love doing that.
7 yes thats an issue, bc2 had the same problem at launch, and the server browser did it too
8 debateable, flimsy argument to make.
9 half of that could be user error getting mad that you cant join a full squad to a server with 4 open slots(hello balance issues)
10. 'waaah i get killed spawning on my squadmate all the time while hes in a firefight waaaaah' atleast that what it sounds like
11 huh?
12 huh?
This explains why a full clip of buckshot did not kill the driver of a humvee.

I've been killed by gunfire in the humvee

didnt pay enough attention to how/what/why, and i have shot people out of it before, maybe its 'sketchy'

I've had fun with BF3 so far but my biggest complaint is the squad changes. Why there is no VOIP for your squad, I have no idea. I also dislike how the squad size is now 4 and you can spawn on any squad member. Having a good squad leader who could direct over VOIP and not get himself killed was a great part of BF2 and really made it feel like a team game. From what I have played in BF3 that team aspect is severely lacking.

Edit: I also have found the way you customize your kits to be a pain, why can't we have the BF2 style popup when you die or in game with the map and the weapons right there. It was much simpler and easier to use.

squadding has issues. VOIP is working great via battlelog, but it needs to be moved to squad stuff and team voip for sure

there is pop up at the bottom, but sadly you cant change accessories that way. of course bf2 didnt have that stuff

This. I'm loving BF3 and will play it to death. But 1942 was the best of the series. No unlocks, no in game stat tracking, no freaking ribbons etc. Just people with exactly the same gear (read level playing field) playing great maps to WIN.

Amen brutha. 1942 (and my favorite BFV) were just pure fun. Now it's more like work, trying to keep up with everyone else.

I'm wondering if it's possible to configure a server for play without any ranks or unlocks, where everything is unlocked for everyone regardless of rank, just a level playing field. Can that be done?

I believe it's the damned peak or whatever map on rush. The first stage is a big downward slope for attackers. There's a humvee and usually people will drive it straight for the bottom. Or they'll sit the humvee at the top of the hill and try to shoot the machine gun. (I like going straight for the wall also. Can hop over and go straight to a). If I'm not defending the mcom (like I should) I like to attack on the mountain and knife people trying to snipe. There's been plenty of times where I will be standing right otuside the window and and unload a full clip in their face but they don't die. They pop out while I'm reloading and they'll end up shooting at me. Doesn't make any sense. It's happened on a lot of the other maps too but that scenario is easy to reproduce on that map.

Another spot is on the 2nd set of mcoms. I think there's another humvee. People will drive it and it'll get stuck on the wall. Attackers can hop over their wall on the far left and usually get an easy shot at the huvee. If I'm attacker I will usually go for this wall and try to pick people off from the gate entrance so I can make my way to the 2 story building. From there you can pick people off on the defender side and your team can squad spawn on you.

The guy did have 20% health in the killcam, but I ran up to the hood (he was stopped) and unloaded the M1014 right in the drivers side windshield. I've wiped out whole squads with the same amount of shells in that range. I didn't see hit markers, so I dont know if I did any damage to him at all. It may be that shotgun users need flechette rounds to do any sort of penetration on none flesh material.

there was a cvar that could be set server side that unlocked everything, however, the R7 patch from tuesday apparently removed that. if you can find a server that is still on R6 you might be able try it, though my GSP forced the R7 update to all.

So I haven't played a battlefield game since Desert combat. I remember back in 2002 playing desert combat at college with my roommates all night long just dicking around in helicopters, jets, jeeps and tanks on those huge maps. It was so fun. I was really hoping the new battlefield would recapture some of this. I haven't played Battlefield 3 yet, but does it capture this same feeling?

I just came out of one of those stupid "tunnel" games...i mean, how more boring can it get? To be honest, i only paid €20 for my copy but after after playing a day now i would probably would want a refund if i had paid more money for this.

I am not a big FPS fan but i had A LOT of fun playing BFBC2, but there is nothing of the "flair" of BFBC2 in this game...seriously i might play a few more days but the first excitement is over and now reality sets in.

that would be stupid because flechette is made for use against soft tissue.

Yes and no.

It's still 64 player Battlefield, and you can still do that same Battlefieldy stuff. As others have said, it's just kind of different.

In 1942/DC and to some extent 2, I felt like if I had the right kit selected and played well, I could hold off an attack or capture a point if I played my best. Being in one of the buildings at a flag in El Al and seeing a tank and some infantry heading my way, there was a sense of panic and urgency to bunker down, request reinforcements and get ready for an attack. It was exciting.

In 3, in that same scenario, I feel like I would've just been Q spotted and sniped by someone with a lot more free time and better gear, or just randomly shelled to hell before I could do much of anything. Honestly, the chance of one infantry really holding off that kind of attack would be unrealistic, but it's what made the game fun and exciting.

It's still entertaining, still the big epic Battlefield stuff, but it's just different.

You know, I know that a lot of people were really sick of the WWII setting in games, but the close combat analog fighting really felt a lot more conducive to a "fun" game than the distant spotting, guided missle, death from above/afar stuff you get in a contemporary setting.

1. No, confirmed by devs already. "hard to track down but known"
3. No, confimred by devs in twitter, known issue fix in next patch
4. But not what EA made them for..64 player. so dur why would they?
5. Nope, they was straightforward also about saying you can make them 64 player if wanted to.
6. No shrub. this is known issue again.
8. No debatable, never had a problem with BC2 at all.
9. huh? makes no sense to say that. balance issue with friends playing together?

Nevermind you don't know what you are talking about.

Ok. I came into this thread to say this.

At least you didn't upgrade your computer solely to play Spore.

I dunno, flechette seems weaker against people than buckshot. It has to be good for something, but the shotgun ammo in general is weird in this game. Slugs have some range but no power. A pistol does more damage. I've hit people with frag ammo up close and they just laughed at me while they killed me. Same with flechette. I really wish there was a gun guide so I could look at the stats and see what it is I should be using for which situation. What I wouldnt give for BFBC2's magnum ammo + slugs.

I've surprised myself with how little I'm playing it. I was as excited as anybody; upgraded my computer and everything, and I've put maybe 3-4 hours into it since it came out.

I was a huge fan of bf1942 and especially Desert Combat but most of my bf3 time so far has been spent in anger and frustration:

I have no idea where I'm going because the in-game map sucks and you cannot easily view the entire playfield at a glance. There is no way to launch or play on an empty server to learn the ins and outs of the maps or practice using the vehicles.

I cannot fly jets or helis because everyone else has already unlocked flares and missiles and I get instantly killed.

I get killed constantly by people I cannot see hiding in corners and bushes who have no problem seeing me because they've unlocked the IR scope.

There is no voice chat, so it's very hard to coordinate with your squad. 90% of the time everyone just runs off and does their own thing instead of trying to work together.

I'll probably try to play again after a patch or two comes down the pipe, but right now it's just frustrating and I already feel way behind the experience curve.l

-edit- No doubt I still think it's an amazing game, and a big step forward for the series. I'm just frustrated with a few of the minor flaws and with how bad I am at the game. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I quoted your whole post because it is almost exactly the way I feel. This game has SO much potential, but I'm starting to look forward to the release of MW3 now.

Probably 75% of my deaths come from campers. A couple of times I got on servers where people were actually trying to play right and it was a great experience.

And I bought BFBC2 recently and loved the maps, etc, but it felt like my character was running with lead in his boots. Felt funny.

I'm extremely pleased with BF3 so far. It runs extremely well on my PC and I have maybe a half dozen crashes in over 30 hours of play so far.

I'm playing all 64 player conquest. Battlefield is great because maybe I want to tank...nah I'll gun in the chopper...maybe I'll C4 jihad in my jeep...or just ground-n-pound. Tons of different ways to play the game. It doesn't get boring for me one bit.

I didn't have an issue with beta and up until today I didn't have many issues with release but today has been a complete cluster fuck. For starters their friend system is completely jacked I couldn't join voice chat with a friend I'm on the phone with trying to get shit to work with and when it finally does it doesn't allow us to join a CO-OP game we either got disconnected before we were able to join or we both got the same "make sure your game is up-to-date which it is according to the game manager. So we decided to play a random server which was ok for the first 5 min before I hard locked and had to reboot. Upon rebooting we could not get voice chat to work again, we were in a party and clicked 'join voice channel' and got nothing several attempts at leaving the party/game etc to no avail... Why have a CO-OP mode if it doesn't work? and how hard is it to make in game voice chat a possibility without a headache? CS did it over 10 years ago(?) flawlessly. On top of all that it normally takes 3 tries to join any server and by that time it's full and you get to find another to try and get disconnected from before you join, several times. We spent over 30 min trying to play a co-op game together ended up playing about 5 min and getting pissed and leaving it at that for the day...

well i should have specified that is its real life use anyway.

shotgun slugs are supposed to give you longer range and more power...lol
A shotgun slug should do way more damage than a pistol.

leave it up to video games to screw up everything.

I was getting frustrated so i played WoW for a bit (i know, dont laugh)...and it was a little "shocking" to see it's possible to play a game without any jaggies again, for a change.
I know its not a comparison by a long shot - but makes you wonder why all new games which boast superb graphics and superior game engines need new hardware to look "decent" or for even enabling AA, if it even works.
