Anyone else disgusted with some childhood cartoons?

I went to a Northwood Hills Elementary in Dallas. Our recess was spent outside. But, if it rained we would have to be inside. That usually meant watching cartoons. One thing that I've never enjoyed was the utter violence that was Tom & Jerry. It wasn't even funny. I never laughed at it and wondered why this kids show was so violent and why others were laughing. It would also be racist, too, but I don't think we got much of those. But all I remember was the violence. There were other cartoons that I watched at home that were much better (Pink Panther, Heathcliff, Transformers, GI Joe, etc...) but I never understood the wanton violence that was Tom & Jerry.

Anyone else feel this way?

I loved the Tom & Jerry cartoons. I also loved watching the 3 Stooges.

I grew up on Benny Hill, Tom & Jerry, the 3 Stooges,.. it was great!

i did however hate tom and jerry, not for any reason you stated besides it not really being funny or entertaining

tom and jerry wasn't funny but not because of the violence, it simply was too repetitive.

Honestly if you think about it most old cartoons are violent and/or involve someone trying to kill somebody else.

As a kid I liked very few "old" cartoons, they usually felt very lifeless. Some Looney Toons were good though.

Almost all the looney tunes were violent in some way. For example the coyote getting hit by buses, trains.. falling off cliffs, etc. It's make believe and it's cartoon.

Same here and loved them!

Keep in mind, Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes weren't exactly kids cartoons at the time the early ones were made. They were shorts before feature length movies, same with 3 Stooges.
