Early 1990s: GOP demanded Obamacare when Clinton was proposing a more universal coverage.
2006: Mitt Romney passed Obamacare in Massachusetts
2010: Obama passed the bill that the GOP had wanted for decades.
Early 2010s: GOP says Obamacare is worst thing ever.
2017: GOP realizes that Obamacare is what they wanted all along. Was this their moment of sanity?

not really, unfortunately. if they had enough votes to pass it they would have voted on it. this is just attempting to save face because their bill was so shitty and everyone knew it (and for some in the GOP it didn't go far enough, which would have been even worse...).

Where was the dissent from the Republicans on this vote? Was it too many thinking it would uninsure too many people or was it conservatives who felt it was still too liberal of a bill? I have my guess.
According to this article:
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/03/24/politics/house-health-care-vote/index.html?iid=hp-toplead-dom
The Freedom Caucus never got on board and each time the bill was modified for them more moderates jumped ship. Thus the dissent was on both the far right and the moderate republicans.

"the votes simply were not there to pass the bill and the leadership and the White House were headed for a lopsided defeat."

It sounds like there were very few left supporting it when the vote was pulled.

Seeing Paul Ryan in such obvious pain almost makes this whole thing worthwhile. I guess his cherished childhood dream of taking away the essential benefits of the poor, disabled, and elderly will have to wait for another day.

so Trump wanted/DEMANDED a vote.
Ryan pulled the bill.

How do you think Trump will retaliate vs Ryan?

God fucking mother of god, what a shit show. At least conservatives can take consolation that they're really sticking it to the Libs, all the while the country they supposedly love is deteriorating all around them.

They will blame Dems for the ACA. They will ignore that they couldn't replace it. They will ignore that they were unwilling to fix it. Dems would work with them right now to fix the holes in Obamacare. Maybe, just maybe, it will finally happen after this.

Or, which is more likely given history, the GOP just sits back and does everything they can to burn the ACA to the ground.

Gotta love the fear mongering by the right. "Obamacare is going to implode", "it's in a death spiral", "it's going to fail soon".

I love how trump is complaining about how no Democrats didn't vote for it and it failed because of them, all while forgetting that the dems got the ACA past with zero Republican support.

Lol what a fucking loser.

No Dems voted for it, true. It also true that no Reps voted for it either.

They will blame eachother simply because it's a conflict of interest.

If you're in favor of repealing the Medicaid in full then you are potentially against your own citizens that voted for you. It's just like anything else that give benefits to a large sum of people

Try advocating for getting good rid of social security. See how far that goes...

“We’re going to be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future,” Ryan admitted Friday.

Adam Schiff calls their bill withdrawal "The Art of the Squeal." Haha.

Sorry, I'm feeling giddy. I've imbibed a bit too much schadenfreude for one day. I may be hungover tomorrow.

You guys are all fools for laughing at this incompetent attempt (and failure) to pass a terrible bill because this is actually the best possible thing that could've happened for Trump. If it had passed, within months every congressman who signed the bill would have mobs with knives and pitch forks outside their offices. They would've lost the house 100% for sure if they had passed it. Instead, we get to all keep our healthcare (which is nice) but there is no real consequence for republicans who have constantly supported gutting their own safety nets. The GOP congress looks incompetent, but guess what? Everybody who payed attention already knew they were incompetent, and competence isn't what gets these republican congressman elected anyway. They get elected for their insane views.

Yes, Trump does look like a failure.... but that's nothing new. The people who think he's awesome will continue to think he's awesome while benefiting from the Obamacare safety net they just attempted to cut out from under all of us. So, in the end, this is a huge win for Trump. I am deeply saddened that this bill did not pass, because combined with Rep. Nunes daily speeches about his investigation into leaks this tells me Trump is here to stay until 2018 AT LEAST.
