I can't wait to delete apps on my phone. That alone made WWDC for me, bye bye crappy Apple apps.

Yeah, this seems to be the big news I keep seeing. Heh, I am not sure this was Apple's intention.

Swift playground looks really cool.

I am, though deleting unused stock apps is more a nicety than a must-have for me.

The biggest deals to me are the nuts-and-bolts additions: support for controlling third-party apps through Siri and the ability to expand and act on lock screen notifications. There's suddenly a good reason to use 3D Touch. Personally, I'm hoping that the expanded Siri leads to more Apple Watch apps. I've been dying for the chance to control Sonos from my watch -- this would make it more realistic ("hey Siri, get Sonos to play music in my living room").

I'm still on the 6 because I didn't really see the need for the 3D touch without it having many uses as of yet but OS 10 should really expand on that feature so I'm pretty excited to pair that with an iPhone 7 when it's released. Getting to be about that time where I'm itching for a new phone!

Being able to delete the first party apps is going to be great, are you listening Samsung?

I have to give it to Apple, if they can't lead, at least they're getting out of the way...

I see some nice improvements and nice catchup features as well. Should be a nice to experience this on an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air. This is also the first time one of my Apple devices gets EOL'd - poor iPod Touch 5G (granted it's so slow on iOS 8).

Surprised iPhone 5 is still supported in iOS 10.

Personally, any non 64-bit iDevices are as good as dead since they don't have adblocking, which is also the thing saving Safari on the 1GB RAM only devices.

Will that now let a third party app do the job of the deleted first party app or will iOS shit the bed if you try to do that?

It seems that currently you get an error message about the Apple app not being installed (say if you click a map link but deleted Apple Maps). However, it's not the final release obviously so who knows if it will change.

Being able to delete Apple Apps is only exciting if it means you can set a new default app.

Well you are going to have to because iOS 10 won't let you do that.

http://9to5mac.com/2016/06/14/phil-...pps-in-ios-10-imessage-more-in-new-interview/

Following WWDC, many noticed that iOS stock apps had been made available in the App Store, prompting them to wonder if those apps would be able to be updated by themselves, without a full iOS update. Schiller and Federighi clarified today, however, that apps can not be updated without a new iOS update. Additionally, Schiller and Federighi noted that you aren’t actually deleting the app when you delete it from your device. Just the user data.

So in other words, the one and only benefit to users is that the icon gets removed from the homescreen?

I'm looking forward to the swipe right, to launch the updated Widgets/suggestions screen. It's very google now-esque. While it doesn't scan my emails to add tracking packages or filter my search results for sports news and scores, all of that can be setup by apps.

I'm hoping they continue to decouple their core apps and update them via the App Store. Messages is moving towards rich content and they expand that.

I can see a lot of millenials getting calls from their parents asking what happened to the their email "button". Then having to guide them through re-downloading it, and re-setting up their accounts... yuck.

The real issue with iOS is that too many Apple apps have become baked-in apps. News should not be a baked in app. Neither should Tips, Notes, iBooks, Stocks, Compass, Watch, Podcasts, iTunes, Find my Friends, and so on. Apple really should have done a survey of what apps get the most screen time and re-think what should be classified as native app. IMO things like Mail, Calendar, Facetime, should not be deletable. It's only going to cause issues with the less savvy public, who may not even know that these can be re-downloaded from the App Store now.

No, it's more than that. The apps don't save data, and their processes don't run in the background. That won't matter too much (it's not like Compass or Tips are resource hogs), but you are getting a little something besides one fewer icon on your home screen.

I hope this means we can change the default app for any given action. Kinda goes hand in hand if safari isn't installed you have to allow chrome to be loaded in its place.

Wow, mine too. Didn't realize that the 5th gen gets the boot. I've been taking it for granted that it will always receive updates. It's still snappy for me on iOS 9, but I had been using it very sparingly lately so I might not have noticed.

Funny thing is that my old mid-2009 MBP (that I've sold a while ago) also finally not included in the list for the new macOS. That's still pretty impressive at 7 years.

And reclaimed space isn't one of them. No different than baked in apps on Android. But, like Android, it's likely that app is sitting on a different partition and there wouldn't be any space to reclaim anyway.

Then you get into the argument that someone else presented of "why is it even shipping on the phone in the first place?"

Most of the keynote seemed very "me-too," but that's only from one live stream and my own personal biases.

That's macOS Sierra... may want to discuss that in the All Things Apple forum!

While I'm here, though: it's hard to say. Could be added overhead, could be looking for specific processor or graphics features, could be just an arbitrary support cutoff.

I'm waiting for the ability to delete pictures I uploaded through iTunes. I hate that right now the only way to do that is by re-syncing the folders from my PC....I should be able to select and delete them just like how I can do with the pictures I took on the phone.
