something weird keeps happening to me lately.

i write up a post and have to edit it after posting because the following thing s keep happening:

- i duplicated a word
- i switched words around
- i thought i backspaced something but i didn't

i think i might have early onset dementia

(Resists urge to "fix" brianmanahan's post by randomly duplicating words, switching words around and backspacing away random characters.)

There are good reasons why I've turned down past invitations to become a mod

Without going into detail or incriminating myself, up until 23 I was pretty much a moron. After that I scaled my idiocy back somewhat, but I still did some really dumb things. It wasn't until around 33 that I finally got my head out of my backside, and cut back on doing dumb things all the time.

Now I look back and realize how lucky I really was to make it through all those times. Things could have ended very differently, so I consider myself very fortunate.

At my current job, i noticed that when in an environment that constantly is testing limits of my knowledge and making proper choices that i wish i had this same environment when i was younger. Back then i could learn fast but there was not the ease of looking something up with the pc as today. Nor had i so much people around me that are really smart and trained in electronic or mechanical engineering or software programming. When i was younger i did do a lot of stupid things and made poor choices.. Part because of no wise people around me to really look up to or relate to and wanting to learn form them. Part of having some degree of autism is that i see all people as not consistent. Therefore it has always been difficul.t Now that i am older, i learned in a way to deal with the inconsistencies people have. But it is really like having to carry a huge database with me at all times where is written how other peoples brain "works" on a persona basis.

Is it not some auto lookup function that messes with you on your smartphone ?
I hate it and it is the first thing i turn off when i buy a new phone once every few years.
I can hardly stand the suggestions google is providing me while thinking and typing.

First of all... @UsandThem i love your name/profile picture combo <3

Also as an 18 yo (19 in 2 months) I can attest to the fact that 6 month ago me was dumb and a jerk and young and inspired in a much different way than I am now, but 6months before that me was even younger and more foolish and 6 months before that me was even more so. Also i can promose that in 6months ill look back at this very post saying "look how foolish this kid was"

Also from my perspective, after my first (almost) year of college, producing, recording, and mixing a full ep, several songs, and finishing up an album for various bands, learning alignment work and modding my car, managing recording clients etc, in these 6 months ive grown as much as many grow between 30-40... I think its like baby steps, the first hundred or so steps are the craziest growth ever, but then no one cares if you can walk 2 miles on your own once you're a teen.

Its not that im a faster learner than anyone here much in the same way a baby isnt a better walker than anyone here. At some point I too will learn to walk like the rest of yall and ill look back to these past 3 years of my recording life and say "why was i so foolish" but in reality the answer is that i just didnt know better.

Just a rant from a different perspective that i think everyone here may (or not) find interesting

The desire to roll back time by 5, 10, 15 years is very strong. Knowledge is power, and we gain plenty of knowledge as we age.

The ability to look anything up is a great resource, but I feel it's made me lazy, and has reduced my thinking ability to some extent. I used to pull data from limited resources, and had to fill in the blanks myself, often through trial and error. That was good exercise. I wouldn't want to go back. Having the world's knowledge in my pocket is amazing, but something's been lost having everything so easily.

When I was 20, I had a lot of confidence in my logical conclusions. This made me ridiculously confident and expressive with people. It made making friends really easy even though I pissed off a lot of people.
But as I got older, I realized that logic is only as good as the knowledge you have. It was humbling and I became a lot more interested in other's perspectives.
I'm a lot less social now since I have a lot more self-doubt but I feel like a more rounded person.

Part of me still envy people like Jordan Peterson who could spout off an internally logically consistent spiel based on his intuition about how the world works.
But the scientist part of me wants to stay a lot more humble and critical of my beliefs.

Well, if it means anything, you still have to verify everything you read on the internet. I know i always do this, or at least try to find more than one credible source.
With example to datasheets, i know that i must never trust datasheets blindly , these are guidelines. But then again, that is what prototpyes are for...
