earlier this week i received a catleap monitor that was DOA from ebay seller greensum. he agreed to pair for return shipping and decide whether to replace/refund the monitor. i shipped it out yesterday.

i ordered a second monitor from ebay seller bigclothcraft, this time i went for a achievia shimian. bigclothcraft inspects the monitors before sending them out (for free). i ordered on tuesday afternoon and received this morning (friday). everything is perfect, couldn't find a single dead pixel. very satisfied so far. the only thing i worry about is how durable these monitors are.

There was talk on 120hz.net on getting the PCBs, but they either need ~$500 000 to get a clone done for cheaper, or get something between ~$120-$150 per PCB.

LG was the only people that produced the "2B" PCB variant. They aren't making it anymore. That's the problem.
Well the thing is if LG suddenly comes out with a single 120hz panel then the rest of their entire inventory is suddenly obsolete. They're going to bring it out all at once, the only question is when. I have a feeling it will be this year.

How much do you want to pay for a 120hz 1440p IPS from LG?

$300.

Look at the prices of HDTV sets. You can get a 50" 1080P screen for like $700.

The prices are going to come down and features like 120hz are going to be the norm soon. People just need to be more patient. It will be rolled out en-masse as a standard feature just like 1080p has taken over whereas we only had 720p screens and 480p displays before that.

Wow. These monitors really aren't for you. These monitors are an intersection of 3 premium technologies: 120hz, 1440p and IPS. Any single one of them will likely go mainstream soon. An intersection of all three? Not likely anytime soon.

just to compare, heres a 27" 1080p 120hz screen: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236206

Less pixels, not IPS, and WAYYY more than the one were talking about here. If i had known about a 1440p 27" 120hz monitor a few months ago, i probably would have spent close to 1000 on it. I bought the dell 2711 for ~700-800 a while back, but couldnt justify the price at the time. (60hz)

Both the 60hz and 120hz version of these are amazing deals.

He's probably right in that it's likely only a matter of time until it comes down to the mainstream community.

Of course. The question is how long? If it's 2-3 years, then I'd rather pay the premium now and enjoy the monitor for an extra 2-3 years (which is what I've done, except I paid $400 for mine).

Yeah and we now have 1080p and LED backlighting, both of which were "premium technologies" and pretty much all screens have them now.

It won't be long. The simple fact that they can sell these things for what works out to $200 at a profit speaks volumes IMO.

Look at the iPad 3 display and Apple's retina displays. 1440p will be low-end soon enough, and faster still if Apple pushes retina displays to their desktop lineup and their laptops.

$300? You're whining about $300 for 1440p, 8 bit IPS with low lag? Look at what apple charges, $1000 for same thing albeit high lag. HP $750 with crappy grainy over heavy anti-glare coating.

How can you compare a TV built with massive pixels and with cheaper PVA tech to small pixel IPS's computer monitor? Not even same thing.

An IPS TV from LG will cost you over 2k BTW. This is a smokin deal on premium product and won't come down anytime soon.

Really panel makers want out of cut throat zero profit LCD business and make OLEDs or mini LEDs.

LED is not a premium technology. All the high end wide gamet displays don't even use LEDs. It's a power saving and cheaper tech I guess they are marketing as better but it's not. Same as wide screen, the closer you get to a line over same diag less screen you get over a square, but they marketed it as premium even though you get less area and ppl buy it.

Computer monitors have seemed to be going the opposite direction from more pixels, a couple of years ago pretty much any monitor over 24" or over was at least 1920x1200. Now we are seeing nothing but 1920x1080 at retail locations. I am very happy to see these Korean monitors starting to reverse that trend.

In all fairness, the 1920x1200 monitors were always expensive whereas the 1920x1080 monitors we have now are pretty cheap. But yeah, it's nice to see these monitors showing up. If my current monitor dies, my choice is an old Samsung 22" 1680x1050 monitor or buying one of these.

Didn't your monitor come with a dual-link dvi cable? Mine did.

Also, add me to the list of people that got a pixel perfect display without paying extra.

It came with a cable. It's a bit short, but I'm using it for now. I wont be able to finalize the screens position until i get my actual dual link cable.

I am not sure that the model of the LG IPS Display Panels in these Korean monitors do not effectively and officially support 120Hz even though if you have the 2B boards to overclock to run it. LG used to make IPS displays to support 120Hz but for some reason they are no longer making them anymore...

I'm wondering if the new LG IPS4 display panels will officially support 120Hz... also right now we do not know how much life these boards will last due to overclocking of the 2B boards, no one has owned one for more than 6 months...

No, I'm saying that $300 for these screens is an excellent deal. What I'm saying is that paying an extra $150 for 120hz isn't worth it because it will be mainstream tech soon.

That said, I have seen the price plummet for LCD screens over the past few years. I paid $2K for my 46" 1080p screen 5-6 years ago and today they're what, $500?

Just watch the price of 2560 res monitors come down to near the same price of 1080P monitors when the 4K resolutions come to market which I think won be to far away I am assuming.

I agree. 4K screens will be the new big thing and will be on all the $2000+ TV sets soon. They can't be making much money selling the big screens for under $700 right now. With the 4K screens they can milk $5000 out of people for a TV again.

The *big* problem will be that there will be no 4K content. Zero. Unless you count the internet as content.

argh, now I'm torn between getting one of these and getting Gnex...

My 6990 should easily handle it and I found a seller with a good rep that ships to Namibia for free.

Adult videos have pushed technology forward in the past (VHS, DVD, high-speed internet, etc.), and I expect it to do so again in the future. So even if there is no other content available, there will always be that.

Games are going to be gorgeous in 4k.

Ok, this monitor is sick. THe wife is complaining that it's too big and she has to turn her head to get from one side to the other... She needs something to complain about anyway. Very happy with the purchase. The only flaw in this one is minor yellowing at the bottom right, but not noticeable in games.
