Adult videos have pushed technology forward in the past (VHS, DVD, high-speed internet, etc.), and I expect it to do so again in the future. So even if there is no other content available, there will always be that.

Agreed... porn helped VHS won the VHC v BETA MAX, and DVD wars... after the dot com bust porn sites were the only profitable sites too

that might work however it sxays its only rated for a 24 inch and up to ~20 lbs, the thing you have really worry about is if the stand can handle the weight of a larger monitor, most of them are VESA mounts, which is the other thing you want to make sure it will fit. most do

i have this mount http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o01_s00_i00

it has 2 25.5 monitors on it, which are really heavy, the mounting arms are fine but the tilt for the monitors needed a lock washer and some elbo grease to keep it from rotating on its own

argh, now I'm torn between getting one of these and getting Gnex...

My 6990 should easily handle it and I found a seller with a good rep that ships to Namibia for free.

Amazing, but even more amazing is how you managed to get your hands on a 6990 in Namibia, considering that they were grossly overpriced (and sometimes difficult to get) even in New Zealand.

If you haven't noticed, most of my hardware is gigabyte stuff. The company I work for has a contract with gigabyte and staff gets cost price. They still are overpriced. It's U$800 retail and U$650 cost price after import tax.

I got it for much less cause the client returned it for 2x 7970s cause it was too noisy. I put an AC twin turbo on it.

We can even get GTX690s and retail price is less than what some places are charging in the states. But from what I know only EVGA sell the 690 in the states?

I own one of the Catleap 2Cs. It's a very fine monitor for the $$$, and you wont find anything better for the price.

The Achieva Shimians have exposed VESA holes but the Catleaps are supposed to have some plastic stuff you need to break off first. Not sure about the Crossovers or whatever.

Question I can't figure out:

http://www.amazon.com/LX-Desk-Mount-...m_cr_pr_sims_t

I'm trying to find something like this for my screen. What will work, and what is recommended?

I use that same one at home, with an extension, and im using a somewhat heavy monitor. No problems at all. Ill post pictures or anything else you need when i get home.

these have standard vesa mounting holes correct?
i didnt even think to check. I sure hope so!

So what's the word on gaming with these monitors?
1. Is lag/ghosting a problem?
2. I've heard they don't have built in scalers. Will I still be able to play games in lower resolutions on my 6950, if it can't handle the higher resolution? Will it look terrible?

I think your 6950 can perform scaling with the GPU, and it may even be better quality scaling than what would otherwise be available in the monitor electronics if they weren't omitted.

I would just use the higher res IMO at least it would be better to go up in resolution and turn off the AA/AF and a few settings then go down in rez and crank up the AA/AF the 6950 will do ok with 2gb Vram at that rez.

As you said, the Achieva Shimian that I bought last week had standard VESA mounting holes.

I suppose I'll only use it for another day or so, but There's an option in the Catalyst Suite that allows checking EDID. AFter checking it, the colors were much approved, not having a washed out look. I didn't realize there was a washed out look until i checked it since my old 2005fpw was in such bad shape.

I haven't used Nvidia in ages, hopefully the 2d desktop image quality is as good as ATI.

1 last question before i buy 2 of the QH270-IPSB's, i know they are dual link DVI only but can i run them with a display port/HDMI -> DVI adapter? because ill need a new graphics card as well (most likely a 7950) and they only seem to have 1 DVI port, or if they have 2 only 1 is dual link,

I think I'm ready to buy one of these, I just need to decide on which brand to get. I heard the Crossover may be a little faster. Any input on which to get?
- Catleap
- Crossover
- Achieva
- PCBank
- Others?

I ran into this this morning. Displayport -> Dual-link DVI (or HDMI) requires an active converter which is about $100-200. I was trying to hook my laptop up to it and my laptop can only do single-link DVI or displayport.

Joshsquall, I have been gaming on this monitor a fair bit and it seems fine. I'm not super picky about things so maybe someone with more experience should comment, but from my perspective, games look great (Skyrim in particular) and Diablo 3 has been fine, and I played a bit of some older FPS games and they worked fine. I don't see any noticeable ghosting or other gaming display problems. I will say that it doesn't feel super, super fluid to me, but it's also not so slow that it's a problem, and the colors and clarity of the screen are fantastic.

I have no experience with the other brands, but the Shimian QH270 is pretty cheaply built with a really lousy stand and the external appearance just looks cheap. It has standard wall mount VESA holes though, and the panel/screen looks awesome, but the bezel is sort of glossy but warped a bit and I'm generally unimpressed with the look of the actual plastic of the monitor. But the screen is wonderful and that's what I wanted. Somewhere on here there's a list with general guidance - like second or third page in.

Thanks. I think I'm going to go with the Crossover with the adjustable stand, in hopes that I'll save $25-$30 in replacing the stand. Doesn't seem like the pixel perfect monitors are worth the $100+ premium. Now I just have to figure out the power adapter.

Which type/brand did you go with, and how did you decide on that one?

I got the Shimian QH270 lite reviewed by AT.

I got the one without Glass cause of all the people complaining about the dust behind the glass.

I didn't get a Catleap cause I wasn't interested in a higher refresh rate. I played GTR on my friends 120hz monitor with 2x 580s and I didn't notice the difference, maybe I'm just slow.

I didn't get a crossover cause if this one turns out to be good, I'm going to get 2 more and Vesa mount them.

I got the lite cause I wanted to save a little cash and I would calibrate the colours with CCC
