Coming closer to a decision about buying the Shimian 270-lite. I was looking at TA-Planet because I know some of youguys have had a good experience there. They have 5 separate listings. One is the "Pixel Perfect" for $363. There are four others that are not "pixel perfect" that are all listed as "new in box" but they range in price $279, $307, $314, $339. Why would the same monitor be listed for all different prices? Anyone know if they are binning them based on defects or something? It's suspicious because the cheaper ones say "Opened and fully tested" whereas the $339 version does not. Otherwise not sure why one would cost $60 more than another.

Opened and fully tested generally means returned and re-boxed.

What I'm thinking is that "opened and fully tested" means, "we checked for bad pixels and this one has some"...or some other bad defect. I'm wondering if anyone bought one of those and can confirm that.

I have had no issues using 2 with my overhead lights on.

I ordered my first from TA-Planet for 363 with perfect pixel, i bought the next just normal one for $307 and asked if he could check for perfect pixels, said for $20 he would and add in the 120v-240v converter that i did not see the cheaper ones did not come with.

Not sure on the others both came next day basically and very happy so far with them. Changed the way PC games look and play to me by stepping up to 2560x1440 reso.

How did you talk to someone at TA? Whenever I pick the option to send seller a message it routes me to a "frequently asked questions" dialogue with no option to actually leave a message.

Anybody know of any of these monitors with stands that are 18.75" tall or less? Have limited vertical space due to my desk's hutch.

I bought it then messaged him through ebay, not sure if you can message before.

Decided to get one of these as well. I bought the "New ACHIEVA Shimian QH270-IPSB 27" LED Tempered Glass Monitor" @ $325. I bought it from Red-Cap as it seems they test their monitors before shipping. It seems to be the same monitor as the Hazro HZ27WC.

After weeks of research I finally bit on the Shimian QH270-Lite from "Acessorieswhole". They have 99.9% positive reviews and guarantees 0 dead pixels and maximum 2 stuck pixels on all monitors and throw in a free adapter. It was $339 I think. Now I need an ASUS GTX 670 to drive this thing.

So about scaling - do any of these have scalers? I don't want to be forced into buying a new video card (currently have a 6950) to run games so high. Can I force it in the AMD control center?

You don't need a scaler unless you plan to use it as an output for something that can't output 2560x1440, such as a PS3/XBOX or most laptops.

Most modern desktop video cards can output 2560x1440 natively.

If you want a scaler, look for any monitor that has a VGA or HDMI port. Those have scalers for sure. They also cost a lot more ($150-200 more) but have scalers, on screen displays to control RGB/brightness/contrast etc. more finely than possible on the cut-down non-scaler monitors. This is important for those who want hardware color calibration for stuff like photo editing.

Ah well. I had $470 in Amazon rewards so I got the ASUS GTX 670 TOP for a grand total of $14 with shipping. SHouldn't have bought it for that price but with the monitor coming...oh well. Easy come easy go. Total upgrade Shimian QH270-Lite and ASUS GTX 670 = $350. I think I can sleep at night with that deal.

So, after reading everything in this thread and then reading a whole lot elsewhere, I bought a ShiMian 27" QH270-Lite from ta_planet on Ebay. Hopefully I'll have it by mid to late this coming week.

It's funny, my current monitor - the one that I'm looking at right now - is a 24" Soyo Topaz S which I bought about 5 years ago based on some thread here on Anandtech talking about them being super cheap at Office Max (I seem to remember $288 being the price I paid, but it was a long time ago). So I get my monitor buying advice from Anandtech bargain threads, I guess. I have to say that this Soyo has been great and I'm hoping that this new 27" LCD works out as well.

I also took the plunge with Accessorieswhole and the QH270-Lite.

I will see if my OCed Q6600 and 6870 can handle 1440p for Skyrim, but I have a feeling I will need to at least upgrade to more video ram or a more powerful Ivy CPU or something. I was hoping to hold out until Intel fixed the TIM heating issue on Ivy bridge, but I guess I will know soon enough if I can wait or not.

I will report back when I have the monitor installed and inspected.

IMO the Crossover is better than the Catleap because it has a far more quality stand and construction is metal not plastic.

Still better than the cheap plastic stand on the catleap.

Well, I have the adjustable stand on the Crossover, and it wiggles a lot more than I like. I'm replacing it. It wasn't worth paying extra for.

In my opinion the selling point for the Crossover is the lack of print on the bezel, I remember seeing a few pictures of Catleaps and thinking "jesus that is ridiculous" immediately.

Besides that there's a lot of little imperfections here and there and while I can't imagine the other models are much better, it's still pretty annoying. I can list a few if you'd like.

I have studied up extensively on all of these craze Korean LG Binned Apple Cinema display HD+ IPS panels and I think I have come to favor the Crossover tho a glass panel would have also be to my liking. I think you are being to hard on the build quality of these well below retail marked down lower end A- panels. If you want all around quality you have to pay full price top dollar to the likes of Samsung or LG otherwise please be a bit more understanding of the relatively small price so naturally corners were cut here and there. These are great value HD+ IPS panles Warts and all.
