Does anyone have a feel for the market forces on these A- panels? Would you say supply is ramping up so prices should remain stable as more people buy them?
Or is there a huge rush on them, limited supply, and prices expect to rise? Is this a golden opportunity that won't repeat as the backlog of A- monitors dry up?
I don't think a dead Pixle on a 2560 monitor would be a deal breaker at leased for me because the Dpi is so high and the pixels are so small. Are dead pixels that noticeable on these? I'm still stuck on a dell 2005fpw (no dead pixels 7 years running!) Reading through this thread, it appears that it's pointles to order the "pixel perfect" models?
I also took the plunge with Accessorieswhole and the QH270-Lite.
I will see if my OCed Q6600 and 6870 can handle 1440p for Skyrim, but I have a feeling I will need to at least upgrade to more video ram or a more powerful Ivy CPU or something. I was hoping to hold out until Intel fixed the TIM heating issue on Ivy bridge, but I guess I will know soon enough if I can wait or not.
I will report back when I have the monitor installed and inspected.
That's what I'm thinking. FOr just around 300 bucks, how bad can this possibly be?
IPS4 really is the only think stopping me from buying 2 of these. where my computer sits i can control the light so the glossy screen does not bother me. the entire room is lit by 2 lights that are behind the monitors
The jewel of my eye right now is the S27B970 whenever it is released.
Hopefully the price will be reasonable when it hits the states, the predecessor S27A850D is a really stunning screen. It looks great but doesn't have the super thick matte that causes shimmer on light backgrounds as the u2711/ZR2740W have - it has a very light AG coating.
I copied you. So if something goes wrong it's your fault! (j/k)
What's better, a Shimian or a Catleap?
I decided to go ahead and upgrade at the same time. Ordered full Ivy 3570K system with Sabertooth Z77, 2X8gb ram, 256 gb ssd, Corsair PSU and H100 cooler to go with the new Shimian.I also took the plunge with Accessorieswhole and the QH270-Lite.

If I do decide I need more video power, can I get away with just a single 7850 2gb card oced? Or do I need to spend the money for a GTX 670 w/2gb or 7970 w/3gb ram?? I can sell my current 6870 for $100 to my cousin to recoup some of the costs if needed or throw it into an HTPC if he doesn't want it, but sort of went overboard already and don't want to spend too much if I don't need to. I play Skyrim w/ texture mods, WoW, and Diablo 3. I would hate to turn off my texture mods in Skyrim because I am out of video ram, but that is my concern now as the 6870 already slows down a tad bit at my current 1080p.
7850 OC does fine on my Shimian 27" 25x14 display, but if you can stretch your budget, a GTX 670 will allow you more breathing space in the most demanding games. Both are 2GB VRAM which is enough for that resolution without mods, and probably with mods unless the mod is particularly VRAM hungry.
Just a hunch but I think it has more to do with Apple not accepting anything other than A+ panels for there Cinema Displays.I suspect LG is dumping its stocks of older IPS panels of all grades to make way for IPS4. I don't regret getting my Shimian Lite 27" too much, but if I had known then, I would have simply waited to see what IPS4 prices were like, particularly since I got the monitor in part for photo editing so the ability to color calibrate solely via hardware is something I miss.
