Oooh that's too bad. I'm sorry to hear that. How much does it cost to ship it back to them?

i have no idea. i've read people saying it costs AT LEAST $100 to ship back. i'm hoping he will cover shipping since the monitor was DOA and he is such a reputable seller. just about everyone i've seen orders from either greensum or bigclothcraft.

Well, even if you have to take a $100 loss it's better than losing $300. Perhaps the seller will pay 50% of the shipping. I would think that they would get a discount through FedEx or whoever.

i guess its not so much the money as having to wait probably another week or two before i can get a working monitor i built a whole new rig to run on this catleap so i was very eager to get it up and running.

Decided I only build one machine every 3 years, so I splurged for the Asus GTX670 Top version with black PCB and cooler. It matches the rest of my all black color scheme and was binned to handle factory OCs and hopefully more. I read a number of test reports that the GTX670Top was beating out the 7970s at 2560X1600 which was closest resolution to the LG panel resolution.

That GTX 670 ought to last you a while. I dunno about 3 years though, esp. with new consoles on the horizon. And no, it is not faster than a 7970 at 25x16 when both are oc'd to the hilt; in fact, even the GTX 680 isn't definitively faster than the 7970 when both are oc'd to the hilt. But the GTX 670 isn't much slower than either of them, and it costs less, making it a better bang for the buck. http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/05/14/geforce_680_670_vs_radeon_7970_7950_gaming_perf/3

Just game at a lower resolution for now and enjoy the extra performance.

That does suck though. Even with all the hassle it will be worth it in the end, though. I recently went through turmoil with my rig. I had to RMA two motherboards and a GPU. It was worth it in the end though. It might not seem like it now but it will in a few months.

What GPU(s) are you using to power the Catleap?

i just picked up a HD 7850 to power it. i also built a i5-2500k w/ a z77 board. i plan to OC both the gpu and cpu but have never done it before and am feeling lazy to read up on it at the moment. i'm really tempted right now to go to the apple store and just buy an ACD..

You will probably get more mileage out of exchanging/RMAing with your current seller.

They might even cross ship. You never know. I was under the impression that they could ship you a Catleap in less than 2 days.

Finally got my Catleap set up and OC'd to 120hz with a Monoprice 24 AWG DL-DVI cable

Got incredibly lucky with a unit with low backlight bleed and no dead pixels (that I could find).

How did you get a 120hz panel? Are they easy to overclock?

120hz.net will have all the information you need. They're VERY easy to overclock. 7000 series AMD cards are limited to 82hz or so, but I think I may have read something over at 120hz.net about some people hitting 100hz.

I actually scaled back the OC to 96hz since there was an audible coil whine at 120hz. This is apparently a common occurrence, but I'm happy with 96hz since nothing I play can hit 120hz at 1440p anyway

I got in on the first batch back in mid May, but just barely set everything up today. Next batch should be going up for sale in early-mid June, but they're only being sold in batches of 100 and interest for these has grown by a lot since the first batch went up for sale.

I paid $465 btw.

Thanks haha! Went through 5-6 cans before finally settling with the Denons.

I can't believe how fast this thing shipped. I don't think I personally could board a plane and get from here to there that quickly. It shipped yesterday morning and it's out for delivery on the fedex truck right now.

It's absolutely amazing to me that you can ship something that big that quickly from South Korea to here in a day.

so basically the only way to get one is to do a group buy with 100 or so other people?

What do you think my chances would be just going with the luck of the draw instead of using 120hz.net? Would I at least be able to hit maybe 85hz?

Only the 2B PCBs found on the early production run of Catleaps can hit >85hz. The trio of guys that head 120hz.net were able to work with Korean manufacturers to secure ~1000 of the remaining 2B PCBs to do a final run of the Catleap 2Bs. All Catleaps found on ebay are 2C, 2D, or 2E PCBs that can OC at most to about 67hz.

The trio are also working with Chinese manufacturers to produce the 2B PCB itself and sell the PCB individually to people who are technologically inclined enough to swap out the PCB themselves. Cost is undetermined at this point, but it's expected to be at least $100 if it ever gets made. There's talk that it may even be compatible with other Korean branded monitors besides just the Catleap.

Not a group buy. Basically the thought of it being a group buy initially was what got the huge thread over at OCN locked down and led to the creation of 120hz.net

The trio over at 120hz.net function as middlemen to facilitate the transaction between buyers and the seller Green-sum. The first batch of 100 went up for sale back in early May and sold out the same evening.

im gonna try to get one. From now until mid june im gonna to be visiting 120hz.net to try and get my hands on one.

One question: im currently using a asus 120hz monitor, how does this compare? I remember reading somewhere that even if those can do 120hz, it might not perform as well for some reason.

Will this work for 3d vision too? will my 560ti work as well? ( i dont see why not, but i might as well ask, planning on upgrading to a 670 sometime in the hopefully near future)

The 2Bs refresh at 120hz, but I'm almost certain they do not support 3D vision. As for how it compares to the Asus... Hands down the IPS display looks MUCH better, unless you play a lot of FPS or can't stand ghosting. For casual FPS gaming, the response time on the 2B is excellent, and the lack of multi inputs (which I personally never use) means very low input lag. I've been playing BF3 on the Catleap and haven't noticed much difference in how I perform, but the game just looks gorgeous.

Your 560ti will probably be fine. I don't know off the top of my head the pixel clock limit on it, but I think you should be able to hit >85hz on it. Whether the 560ti has the horsepower to game at 85hz/1440p is another story however.

One last thing. If you do plan on purchasing the 2B. I highly suggest investing in the 24 or 28 AWG DL-DVI cable from Monoprice. The one that ships with the Catleap is very generic and I was only able to hit 115hz stable with it.

Why do you mention 85hz? can some cards not do up to 120hz? Like i said not a huge deal because once they are more available, i plan on getting a 670.

and have you used a true 120hz monitor before this? I would like to see how it performs compared to my present monitor.

(I think i have a 24 or 28 awg cable - but its 10-15ft long, is this gonna be a problem?)

Ok, I just checked and it looks like Fermi cards have a theoretical bandwidth of 450mhz on the pixel clock. This is the theoretically limit which should be able to output 112hz at 1440p provided you have a good quality cable.

Also for those interested. SLI and multi GPU NVIDIA cards are hard limited to 100hz at 1440p due to pixel clock limitations of the SLI bridge locked down to 400mhz.

Lastly, I do not think 15ft is a problem as long as your cable is a quality one like the Monoprice one.
