I dunno, this monitor sort of reminds me of SSDs, where demand was high until all the enthusiasts got one, then demand dropped off and we see prices fall through the floor because average buyers don't care and don't know what SSDs are. I think the same thing is happening with this monitor, where enthusiasts are all over them recently and demand spiked, but the enthusiasts will eventually all have theirs and demand will drop.
Then, the average computer buyer will not even know about this monitor, and if so, won't even care, and so nobody will want one. Microcenter I think got a bunch in stock after selling out to all the enthusiasts, but that's what 0.1% of all computer buyers? Now they will sit in the store because very few enthusiasts are left who still haven't bought one. I'm predicting around September we'll see the price drop?
I mean, besides reading about these on Anandtech or other computer enthusiast blogs, there was no way to know about the monitors. Even the microcenter employees didn't know what they had when they set up the monitor at the store I visited - they don't know how to showcase the merits of their own product and they are supposed experts on monitors. If the store employees don't know what it is, certainly the average shopper won't, and they'll just buy a 1080p monitor if they want a 27" screen, because it costs less than this one and they can't tell the difference.
