Mish-mash.

MacBook Air (nothing but Apple portables for me)
Homebuilt PC with Win7 & 8
HTC Surround with WinPho 7.5

The only way to make it more varied would be if I was using a WebOS device (ICS is the first sign that I have gotten from Google that they actually give a flip about design, and you couldn't get me to use a BB if you paid me).

I actually consider myself a Mac guy, but until such time as I can afford a 27" iMac to go alongside my gaming desktop (which at that point would be all I would use it for), I don't see me going all-Mac for a while.

100% Windows 7.

I was forced to use a Mac for my alt-job, and hated it. Not because it sucked, but because I had to learn a new OS. I'm getting old and with 15 years of Windows experience, I just don't feel like it. It took me 10 minutes and googling to figure out how to burn a freaking CD on a Mac last year my first time for effs sake.

Nope, I am Apple-free, unless you count the old 1st gen iPhone I keep around for dev purposes. BlackBerry Bold 9930, Dell Venue Pro, Samsung Vibrant, BlackBerry PlayBook, (soon) Amazon Fire, and ZuneHD.

Oh...and a Windows 7 desktop, and a laptop with Windows 8 dev preview.

I just bought 2 iphone 4S and switched my tbolt and charge to iOS. I've just had enough of android. If they give me a locked phone but please give me the ability to remove all the unwanted apps, that will be my main reason to drop android.

I like a mixture of devices and operating systems..

Notebook -

2011 15" Macbook Pro

Display - 27" Apple LED Cinema Display

Desktop -

Runs windows 8 developer preview

Mediabox -

Windows 8 Developer Preview

Phone -

Samsung Focus running Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango"

Tablet -

32GB HP Touchpad dual-booting WebOS 3.04 and Cyanogenmod 7 Alpha 2.1

Until recently the mediabox was running Ubuntu, but I wanted to play with a UEFI board and so far I'm much happier with the performance of the A-3850 than the dual core celeron w/ a 9300m combination I had before.

I pick and choose to match my need and interest. And sometimes I buy things because it's a good deal. Going all one uniform platform does have it's advantages in product and service familiarity but you're also stuck with the limitations of that platform. That doesn't really appeal to me.

I have 3 AppleTV2 but it's jailbroken running XBMC. You have to be the ultimate Apple diehard to buy AppleTV to use only stock. I also own GoogleTV. It adds the Flash browser functionality missing from AppleTV. If AppleTV had a browser and it supported Flash, I wouldn't need GoogleTV.

All my current desktops and laptops are Windows. I do still own an ancient iBook but that's more museum piece. I'm interested in 13" Mac Air but given how little I use my laptops, it's hard to justify $1.3k just for a toy. Apple desktop do not appeal to me.

That leaves the phone and tablet. I bought iPad 1 & 2 for my wife because that's what she wanted. But I would've bought for myself if she had no interest. I also got her an iPhone which she liked but it died after about 2 months. We're both currently using Android phones but I know she still wants an iPhone. I go back and forth whether I want an iPhone. If I could get free infrastructure tethering and something equivalent to Google Voice Navigation, I would be happy and could switch. Just free infrastructure tethering could get me to switch phones since I use my Android 7" Galaxy Tab for car GPS.

My fullsize tablet of choice is HP Touchpad. I currently have 3 Touchpads all hacked and dualboot enabled with WebOS and Android CM7. I really have no desire for any other tablet after the Touchpad. It's in my opinion the ultimate tablet now with dualboot. I canceled my Amazon Fire preorder because of CM7 on the Touchpad. 3.0.4 WebOS update fixed many of the bugs and the OS now feels faster and smoother. CM7 is getting better daily, and I'm looking forward to see what they can do with ICS. iPad3 would have to be revolutionary for me to buy it.

I wish i could afford to go apple, but even then, I'm not sure I would.

i use a 13" macbook pro current gen, which basically wiped out my bank account, i have an old white 2006 macbook and my girlfriend has the 2009 white macbook.

but i have an HTC desire S, which i love, and which i could afford, and no tablet, can't afford that either, but if i could i would either go for the ipad or the asus transformer. and i'm too much of a snob to grab an old iphone for cheap.

the problem is, i like to be able to tinker and customize my phone, not that i do it often, but i like the possibility, however the ease of syncing everything within the Mac eco-sphere would be much simpler and convenient, and I like that possibility.

one day i would also like a proper Mac desktop, nothing against Windows, I was using it for work until recently and it is just fine, but I've been using a Mac for personal use for the last 10 years and I like it more, but then again I might be superficial and like the pretty glamour of Apple. plus i know how to function better on a Mac, even when it doesn't just work.

Is AT becoming Engadget? The only thing that I remotely consider would be an iPhone 4S, but only if I could customize it. I like to do what I want with my hardware. Still rockin' a Palm Pre patched/modded to 1GHz. Running four Windows boxes. Main rig & the missus pc running Win7 x64. File server and HTPC running WinXP Pro. I can understand if someone wanted an Apple, but only because they don't like to tinker with it. To me it's just another pc, albeit an expensive alternative. If I want to spend that kind of $$ I'd just upgrade the hardware. I don't pay for my OS and I like to build my own.

I'm well on the way. It started when I bought an iPad 2 and fell in love with the OS. I picked up an iPhone 4S and have been very happy with it as well. When I replace my notebook next year it will be with a Macbook Pro. I will always have some PC's in the house as my wife doesn't have any interest in a Mac but she loves her iPhone. I don't have real issues with Windows but I really like these two products so I may as well go full boat into the ecosystem. The Apple TV is going to have to have a serious update before I would consider it though.

For the phone I switched for the same reason as the OP, I just want my phone to work. I'm tired of flashing ROM's, radios, and constantly having to tinker. Stock ROM's universally suck. They are laden with bloat and crappy overlays like Sense and Blur. ROM makers work hard but they all have there own issues that need to be tweaked on. I must be getting old, I'm tired of screwing with it and want my phone to just work.

You have a link to that? Last data I saw had OSX pretty flat with single digit market share.

You're arguing different metrics. You're talking about market share, the guy you quoted was talking about growth. Growth has indeed been in the double digits...but that only translates to a single digit market share gain.

I've been thinking about a Macbook as my next laptop but money's been tight. Working in a startup, no pay, family expenses...yada yada.

Custom built Windows gaming rig, and a "brand" computer for the family room. Two Windows laptops an and iPad, and two iPhones.

I've got a MBP but it all stops there... for now.

On Monday I will receive an iPhone 4S that will replace my EVO 4G. (One thing to note here, I've been through a Blackberry, Palm Pre, and Evo 4G over the course of the last 3 years. I may decide I absolutely hate iOS and end up returning it and going with the Nexus. I'd love to try WP7 but the hardware is too old at this point.)

I've also got a Zune but am hoping the 4S will serve as a replacement. I don't need 120gb of music with me at all times.

Other than that, I do have a Windows 7 desktop but to be honest I don't PC game any more so the only reason I use it is to update the Zune.

I have a mbp but only because it was free. I also have an iPhone 4 but again, free. I use the phone not as a phone but for an entertainment device, but it hardly ever gets used. The only apple products I ever bought or legitimately used would be my old ipods. PC and android 90 percent for me. On the desktop side it will never be Macs for me because of games. And Mac will never be a good platform for games. And don't give me that bootcamp bullshit. If I could do bootcamp then wth would I need a Mac for? Osx provides absolutely nothing to make it a musthave gotta get a Mac.

Opposite here. All Windows 7 PCs (including HTPCs,) Windows Phone 7, Zune HD. The only non-windows device I have is a Sony Dash.

Overall it's 12% or 13% but growing at 25% a year. Pc market in general is either single digit growth or small contraction.

Profit wise apple takes home something like 50% of all desktop and laptop profits

Just goes to show how much money they're making on each machine when their market share is so small but their profit share is so huge.

Part of my reasoning is that I need a bulletproof phone as it's my only phone and I'm on call 2X a week or so.

A few months ago, I had a screwed up rom, took me about 6 hours to resolve, and I was on call. If my pager had gone off, I'd have been in deep shit.

Just goes to show how much money they're making on each machine when their market share is so small but their profit share is so huge.

Granted, Apple enjoys a good profit margin, but when you figure in that all of the components are sourced by Apple, including the OS, and the way they have massaged supply chain efficiency, it's not that unreasonable.

Take virtually any product Apple currently makes and find a comparable device, and the prices are actually pretty close.

I'm not talking about Apple branded accessories, but the devices themselves.

In a month I'll be a gaming desktop away from going all Android... No chance of dumping that, though.

(Although my current laptop runs Linux anyway.)

I will be going all Apple soon. I want to replace both my Sony Vaio laptops with MBAs, and then get an iPad (maybe wait for the next version) and an Apple TV (my wife already has an iPhone 4). For storage I'm looking at a Synology NAS and for wifi I'll probably just get an Airport Extreme. If I need to run something in Windows, I'll use Fusion.

iPhone 4s and iPad

but my computer is a HP 17" laptop (and a netbook that only gets used as a backup or whenn sick of the heat the HP pumps out)

I would have got a Macbook pro, but didn't want to spend that much, but in the 8mths I've had the HP its broken down twice..............

No...tempting but between the limited hardware choices and expense of complete replacement of everything. Running two Win7 pro boxes for the wife and I, one Win7 pro machine for the HTPC, a Win7 home premium laptop, a WHS, couple Linksys MCX's, and now a Windows Phone. Nook Color is barely ever used now, and the old OG Droid is now my alarm clock.
