If you'll notice, I don't have an Apple desktop or any desktop.

AT obviously has lots of power users and gamers who do use desktops, and there is no comparison, I'll readily agree.

However, once you get away from the "disposable" category of laptops and netbooks, Apple's offerings are competitively priced.

Same with phones, tablets, etc...

Now, I will freely admit that I haven't looked into this in a couple of years, but about two years ago when I bought a high end laptop, I compared what I ended up buying (Dell) vs a MacBook Pro, and the Mac, with nearly identical hardware, cost $2,800, vs the Dell costing $1,600. Sure - the Mac was a very nice computer, but I found it very difficult to justify spending an extra $1,200 for essentially the same computer.

Can't do anything w/o unix - hackintosh tower and macbook air. Android is better for people with techy background though.

Unless it was late in the Mac cycle 2 years ago mbp's were cheaper than dell for a while

No Apple here and will never buy an Apple product. They lost me for good when they started suing for ridiculous reasons.

Wow. I hope no one comes in and lists all of the different law suits made by pretty much every electronics company in the world. You're going to end up using a couple of tin cans and a string when all is said and done.

Nope, went fully non-Apple and am happy. Some sucker keeps buying my old Apple stuff so they were easy to unload.

You're going to run out of tech companies you will be able to buy from if that is your deciding factor.
So I take it you don't use any Google or Microsoft products......

I think you should ask Mike Rowe about ridiculous reasons a tech company might sue you.

OP asked, I responded. That's my reason for not buying Apple. If Microsoft/Google started this type of chickenshit approach to business I'd have a problem with them.

Then, you have a problem with them.

Good luck with your next tech purchase and giving up gmail.

At home:

Primary rig: Windows 7

Secondary: Windows XP

Mobile: Android

No intentions of getting any Apple desktops or laptops, since we are primarily a Windows shop at work. Wouldn't mind getting an iphone though; would've got one with this last release had it had a 4" screen or larger.

LOL yeah, I managed to sell my 12" PowerBook G4 for $750 in early 2007, almost a year after the introduction of the MacBook. People were enamored with that model. Some of them really, really wanted the matte screen and slightly smaller form factor, and were willing to overpay for a computer that was dog-slow and totally obsolete. In fact, that PowerBook was the reason I switched away from Macs.

But hey, that money was enough to help me build a pretty nice PC desktop.

MOBILE: iPhone 4

Laptop: Macbook Air 11"

Desktop / Media Center: Windows 7

Network storage: Linux NAS.

It was a bitch getting the MBA to be seen on the network but now everything is all good. Linux and OSX work great together, windows 7 and OSX not so much.

13" Macbook Pro
Apple Cinema Display 27"
Intel 2500k Desktop PC
iPhone
Windows Home Server

So I have two Windows machines and 3 apple devices. I prefer my desktops to be windows and my mobile stuff to be Apple. IMO, the Macbook Pro Unibody is the best designed laptop ever. Everything about this laptop is a generation above what's out there.

As for the ACD, I love the all in one connection, which is why I chose it over other displays. I got the iPhone because its the most polished smartphone, the Windows Desktop for the horsepower, and WHS for obvious reasons.

I'lll never own a mac desktop, too pricey to get it as fast as I'd want (especially for gaming). I have an ipad and an iphone. I love my thinkpad, but I'll prob replace it down the next couple of years with a macbook pro.

You're telling me that Google tried to patent underclocking? And Microsoft invented the GUI? And that the iPad was the very first tablet? Optimus was created for Macbooks? Little Billy fell down the well and Lassie can't save him?

I'm not naive enough to think that any large company hasn't been involved in some sort of "shady" practice to further their interests, but the things that Apple claims to have "invented" make me shake my head.

I went from an iPhone 3GS to a Samsung Galaxy S II. I was waiting for the iPhone 5, but the released 4S is too small for my tastes. I'm happy with my choice.

All patent lawsuits are claims to have invented something.

Do we really need to cite for you egregious examples from each and every large tech company?

Sorry, my timeline was off. It was longer back than that - March 2008.

back then i think apple was the only computer maker that was selling DDR3 based systems across it's entire lineup. that's where the premium was. along with the fact that their low end systems already had faster CPU's than dell/hp base systems.

it's like a lexus or acura. they are selling you a toyota/honda with a lot of features you may not need but they have a profit/unit target

No, I own an MBA, but there's no way I could switch to Mac for my computing needs. I enjoy games still. There's also no way I could switch to an iPhone because I like my larger screen on the Tbolt. Mine just has the standard battery, but it hits ~20 hours pretty consistently on 3G. Plenty of time for 99% of the time. I'm salivating over the Gnex.

Yeah, ok pal. I also have the tbolt, both standard and extended battery, and neither lasts remotely near 20 hours...lol, please.

It's funny how I used to hate Apple, just refuse to buy their products. Then I got the Macbook Pro for iOS development and it was all over. After using MBP, I couldn't even use my Windows laptop or any Windows laptop anymore. It's just not the same.

I recently bought the iPad 2 for my daughter and the iPhone 4s for the wifey. I still use Windows desktop for games though.

But really Macbook Pro >>>>> any Windows Laptops, especially for coding.

Depends on usage. I've had my TB last for over 2 days on the stock battery with very light use. You probably have to be rooted and tweaked though. Typically I will charge my phone once a day, probably use it for 2-3 hours total with the screen on. LTE always on. Also I just followed a battery calibration guide for the phone, seems to improve things even further. Don't have the extended battery, don't feel I need it.

The only thing Apple are amazing with is the iPhone, everything else pretty much "meh". No way I'm going 100% Apple.
