i still like building pcs, i like to tinker, i just prefer OS X as an OS. i don't believe that macs are for recreational use at all, because i can do anything (outside of gaming) on my powerbook that i can do on my pc.
Pick what you want, but don't believe the crap that macs don't crash or get viruses. If people actually made as many viruses for macs as they do PCs, your ass would have caught one if you were not able to stay away from them using a PC.
well the whole point is that there aren't that many viruses for a mac. can it get a virus? sure, but there would have to be viruses for the mac to get them. as for crashing, i've had a lot less problems with crashes on the mac. does it happen? sure, twice since i've owned it i've had to force firefox to quit. does my whole computer lock up? no, not at all. worst i get is the beach ball until i quit the offending application. it's amusing but the whole "macs can't get viruses" ad campaign could work against apple, because in the past they really haven't said anything about it. but lately they have, and all that's going to do is draw attention from the type of creep that would create a virus. doh.
I don't have anything against apple, but it is the apple users who try and rub it in your face like they have such a powerful computer, like they actually know a thing about computers. Yet, it can hardly do half the things I can do on my PC. Aesthetics, check. Software.....
what can't i do with my powerbook that you can with your pc? from the look of it you are the one rubbing it in my face, not the other way around. the biggest thing is the amount of free software, i guess because it's a smaller market? i've found mostly everything i need, but it's not as simple as finding free software for the pc. the biggest thing is a graphics editor. gimp can run in os x but it's not very pretty (runs under x11, i just didn't care for it). as for fanbois, with mac you have, well, mac fanbois. with windows you have windows fanbois, linux fanbois, ati fanbois, nvidia fanbois, intel fanbois, amd fanbois, shall i go on? even power supply companies are getting fanbois these days, sheesh.
BTW, I'm not an apple hater. I love the 5G ipod. I switched from an iRiver H320 to it.
i love my ipod too. i actually had it hooked up to my pc for awhile but itunes works more fluidly (for me) in os x than xp.

use what you want, i certainly wouldn't try and push a mac on anyone. for me the OS is just great, it really works well and i feel more comfortable in it, and i've been using windows since 3.1 (i've been using computers longer than that, but this is about windows, not various flavors of DOS). unfortunately because of the rabid fanbois macs have gotten a bad stigma, and that goes for fanbois on both sides of the coin. unfortunately most people that hate it have never given it a real try, and that's too bad, they might just like it.
