I don't hate them. They are just pathetic losers. This is a forum, not an English class. As long as I can understand the poster, I have no problem.

Many of our members are not using English as their primary language.

One more thing, how pathetic these grammar police wannabes when their "corrections" contain grammar errors....LOL.

There's a certain amount of informality that is expected on an internet forum, but some posters don't seem capable of writing a decent, comprehensible sentence. This is becoming a big problem with email in the business world, and some companies (and the U.S. Federal government) have even started offering basic writing classes to fight this trend.

It does bother me when there is little or no effort being made to use proper English, especially if the poster drops in some IM abbreviations. But I don?t bother to correct them, I just move on to another post.

I'm deeply saddened by the intellectual deterioration occurring in modern society, and bad spelling & grammar are an indicator of it. How depressing is it that it's currently fashionable to be stupid? That being said, while I do notice bad spelling and grammar, I don't point them out to people or anything, and I have friends who can't spell well and often use improper grammar. The only thing I do bother flaming is AOLspeak - people who say something like "y 2 plz b ur" aren't making legitimate errors, nor are they being lazy & saving time - simply put, they are trying to fit in with people I loathe - stupid children.

PS - In our global society it's essential to realize that not everyone speaks English natively. While I'd love to believe this accounts for all of the bad spelling and grammar I see, sadly most non-native speakers write English better than most native speakers. This is because, unlike native speakers, those learning the language actually bother reading it once in a while.

Perhaps it's something as simple as we're trying to make you care about your writing?

Maybe it just bugs some of us that so many fairly well educated individuals take no pride whatsoever in their writing?

Personally, I think less of someone for poor grammar and misspelled words. It's sloppy and it means you don't care enough to do it right the first time. If you can't be bothered to speak and write well then why should we be bothered to listen to you or to read your writing?
