I see that there are dozens and dozens of "treatments" for balding out there but I'm sure some are "old wives tales" and some are from swindlers and some are probably dangerous....

Has anyone found anything that helps or works for them?

Take care.

Waste of time and finances, really if you ask me. The side effects from some of the prescription or even now over-the-counter medications can be rather frightening when you read into them. Also think about how long some of them have been on the market and the lack of long term human studies that they are and you will see that your health and longevity are worth much more than hair.

I'm receding and have some really long hair to be lacking some day. Only thing that bothers me is having to wear a hat on really sunny days to avoid "scalp burn".

But just stay up late some time and watch commercial tv....those "infomercials" play up on hair loss big time saying you will no longer be successful, people will laugh at you and women will scorn you, NONE of which I have found to be true via personal experience.

Just so long as you don't have male pattern baldness (that is where the balding starts as a patch in the back and works it's way outward). There have been some studdies in the past showing a genetic link to that and certain types of heart condition, but I'm not sure of the current standing regarding that research.

Cheers

Buy Minoxodil (SP?) (Rogaine, or generic equivalent) at the drug store. It's the only topical solution proven to regrow hair and stop hair loss. I use it a few times a week (they recommend twice a day, but I can't stick to it). It seems to slow the hair from falling out.

No side effects that I know of, since you don't take it internally.

I started losing hair at the ripe old age of 20. Now I just shave my head.

I get more females feeling up on my shaved dome then I ever did with a full head of hair.
I don't know why, it's just the way it is.

Screen them on how they "feel" that shaved dome of yours....that way you can tell how they will be feeling your "other" bald dome

LOL, I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Not that they'll be feeling my "other" dome since I'm married anyway.

HAHAHAHA!! This is the beginning of the end, friend. First, you achieve ChromeDome status. Next, the ass and the waistline begin to merge into one unknown body part. Finally, Mr. Happy just ain't makin' Ms. Happy so happy anymore. So, it's minoxidil for the big head, viagra for the little head, Prep H for the inevitable 'roids that are sure to follow. Homer, welcome to my world. We're all Al Bundy.

Well, I guess that is why there is still hope for me.....my fiance is 12 years younger than me and as my graduate advisor used to say

"You're only as old as the person you feel"

Hey, that's exactly my story as well! Been shaving my head for five years now. Looks cool with my well trimmed, silver-streaked beard.

Beer . It's does not grow the hair back but you sure feel better after a few.

The best approach is to keep it nice a short. I hate those guys that do the comb over thing. It looks stupid. I'm not sure who they think their fooling.

The only thing that really works is a hair transplant. Sorry but I don't want anyone drilling holes in my head.

I not a big hat fan so I find that a stong sun screen usually does the trick during the summer.

mine is receding as well, started around the age of 23.

I'm taking biotin as a supplement and something called ultra hair. Both of them are over the counter so they can't have those horrible side effects. This and eliminating some of the stress in my life has made it stop receding.

I started at 21 from the top of my head. I tried Rogaine, but it made my scalp really itchy, so I stopped taking it. I don't use anything now, but it is still slowly falling out. I hate looking at the comb after I comb my hair because the hair is falling out.

I have looked at Propecia, but my dermatologist doesn't want to proscribe it. Oh well. I guess when it gets worse, I will shave my head

RC5Bri~ did your dermatologist tell you why he/she wouldn't prescribe the Propecia for your hairloss?
