yup matrix and philosophy
and also it had an awesome amount of action actually done by the actors. no quick cutting to hide the stunt men all the time like in many other movies. they trained their actors asses off.

The Matrix is a great movie on many levels. The special effects were pretty revolutionary IMO, they did a lot of original stuff that hadn't been done before. The costume and set design was top notch. It also deals with an interesting concept that has been explored in sci-fi before but brings it to the mainstream. It also has some philosophical overtures...there's even some books on the subject. 1 2

Same goes for Matrix. One of the GREATEST sci-fi movies of all time (easy Top 5)! Watch it from beginning to end--you'll understand what you've been missing................THUSLY you'll be caught up before the 2 movies and video game come out later this year.

So? I'd rather see things like plot, story, writng, and acting. Slow motion kung fu might have amused me when I was 12, but not now. The only thing that amused me in the Matrix was watching steam come out of Keanu Reeves' ears when he had to remember more than one line at a time.

it has a great plot/story/writing/acting. well staged, well filmed creative action sequences where you are given a clear idea of whats going on and not simply quick cuts of random punches and kicks are awesome.
and i didnt see bad acting by keanu, he fits it perfectly. if your arguement is that matrix sucks because he is stupid... thats fine, but weak.
