I've seen more bugs in Linux distro's than in Windows. Now granted I haven't crossed any bugs that I became aware of in OSX, not that it means anything, just my experience thus far. But I come across some total BS sometimes with Linux distro's, especially KDE.
Linux is open source project that is too large and pulling in too many directions at the same time. Not to mention that iti s actually a set of other open source projects. Developers naturally like to add new features rather to fix existing ones. And every new feature adds new bugs ... so things can get only worse. They only way it works is if one entity is in charge of everything and everything is under their control. That works for Google with Android - they took the most stable parts like kernel and put rest of stuff in their control.
So IMO Valve has chance to fix Linux with SteamOS, but I expect it to become derivative of it as well.
