I prefer Savers to Goodwill. Prices are better imo.

There are great deals to be found, you just need to be there when they put them out. I got an older husquvarna embroidery sewing machine for ~$5. It was mixed in with a bunch of singers that were in the 40-50 range. Idiots didnt know what they had. That husky retailed for $2500 back when those singers where a couple hundred. Damn thing is a tank and does everything.

That happens all the time. if you ever watch Antiques Road Show, people are always bringing in something bought at a thrift shop or a garage sale for next to nothing and have it be worth hundreds or thousands of bucks.

I've gotten some great clothing finds on ebay, but you've really got to know what you're looking for and be flexible on sizing (like, I picked up a vintage christian dior trenchcoat a couple weeks ago... it's a 44R when I should really be in a 36R, but for the price I paid, it was totally worth buying it and taking it to a tailor to fix)

Yep, I hit up the local Goodwill once a week.

Last week I got a 40 quart plug-in thermoelectric cooler WITH the AC adapter for 8$.

A few weeks ago I got a 32 gallon vertical air compressor tank for 20$. Should make a good compressor if I ever get around to finding a compressor and motor for it.

Goodwill is great. Though, sometimes stuff is overpriced. It's obvious they just price things based on how good they look.. lol

I never usually find good stuff at Goodwill. They're expensive for a thrift store.

I really like the local Catholic thrift store. I go there when I need random parts. For example, I needed a blower motor, so I bought a vacuum for $2 and gutted the motor.

Goodwill is expensive because of the hipsters.

Goodwill can be shopped by anyone, not just the poor. There is a Goodwill store in the Hartland Shopping Center in Lexington KY. It's just outside one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in town (Hartland). There are millionaires that shop there all the time (literally).

BTW, which goodwill did you go to? I always liked the Goodwill Superstore on Powell.

The Goodwill in North Portland. It's near Lombard and Denver. Sometimes I go to the one by Lloyd Center. I have been to the one on Powell when I went to the high school (for one semester) near there. It was pretty good.

I would - but the local depot [TV Highway - near Fred Meyers] dumps a lot of their stuff in bins which is pretty nasty. Went the depot to donate/see what they had - they ship out the good stuff to the outlet stores while dump the crap for [mainly non english mexicans] people to rummage through [it's really disgusting]

My Dad shops there all the time. I once bought a monitor there (CRT) that worked but had color distortion. I fixed it with a couple of refrigerator magnets taped to the side.

I've bought a lot of books from Goodwill and Value Village. Lots of expensive books are sold for $3-4

My most recent purchase was a set of clothes for paintball and dirty work. The set of clothes, including a very heavy coat, was about $20.

Books, books, and more books. Priced at 1-1.50 or so, you cannot go wrong. even Hardcover books go for about 2-3 bucks. Many I have bought are brand new. The spines have nary a crack in them.
I work outside all day and thrift stores are perfect for raingear too.I never pay more than 2-3 bucks for any raincoat. When it rips, I toss it out and get another one. I found a practically new Eddie Bauer raincoat that also doubles as a winter coat for 3 bucks.Perfect for those miserable rainy 34 degree December days.

Peace

Picked up a brand new in box Sentry KS4100 fire safe for $20 a couple of days ago from my local Goodwill. My work shirts get thrashed pretty fast so I get thoose from Goodwill. Near new or new Eddie Bauer long sleeves for $4. The locations near schools have some good stuff at the end of the semester. Kids clean out and throw away the shirts mom and dad bought them that they don't like.
