People on the console forum aren't thrilled with it. Maybe it's for the best that my purchase didn't work out last night.

I've become very skeptical of new comers when they get in between Battlefield and COD as both of those franchises have been around for at least a decade now. It brings a lot of barriers that new entries have to overcome, so at least gave them a lot of credit to have the scrubbles to come out with Homefront.

The consensus out there is that the campaign is awfully short, missing a good amount of polish, and suffers some technical issues in multiplayer like bad connections and invisible barriers while shooting. I would of been absolutely shocked if they released this game without technical hiccups or multiplayer functionality issues. knowing how long it took for Infinity Ward/Activision and the makers of BF to iron out some of their larger issues, I knew this was going to be an uphill battle when they announced the making of Home Front.

Please let us know if Home Front has terminal consolitus. I really don't care about the single player in shooters but multiplayer is huge. I really want to know is it super fast like COD or is it slower like BF2/1942.

The game is terrible, mediocre at best. It tries very hard to copy the play and feel of CoD, down to the T on the weapons. The single-player is ridiculously short. I thought things were picking up and moving along at the Bridge levels, and then it abruptly ended... The event scripting was sub-par, as there were countless time where the AI would get stuck at doors, or waiting for invisible trigger point to fire. The writing and story was equally terrible. You'd think they'd spent more time developing a richer narrative with the constant marketing about "writer of Red Dawn!". It feels like the game was rushed and many things were cut from the single-player. As for the multilayer, it's pretty much a CoD clone with few tweaks. Nothing to write home about. Game had good premise, but just fell far too short in execution.

The game looks like shit. At first, it sounded interesting because it moved away from the same old nonsense of USA vs. Russia.

The gameplay looks too similar to CoD and the graphics also look subpar.

Another $60 saved! woohoo!

I fired it up this morning and just ran around for 10 min or so. It moves slow...slower than BFBC2. It looks worse as well, but manages to run 50% fewer fps. I didn't really even feel like playing an actual match. My feelings on the game may have been tempered from the fact that I spent quite awhile getting the game to actually launch. Homefront kept complaining my Physx was installed incorrectly and to install it. But the redist that shipped with it and and Nvidia's latest version wouldnt install. Eventually I had to remove my 5870 and put back in my 460 so I could install it and launch the game.

the graphics are decent, nothing special.

the levels are an alright size, maybe even too small. the pace was very fast

I had the physx issues and I think its preventing my gamer rig from playing the game

my htpc plays it fine, I forgot to even look at what FRAPS was reporting.

I posted about it in the homefront forums and had ZERO responses from the DEVs after about 3 hours. on launch day.

but some of the PS3 gripes had replys. I am a little bothered they could atleast have said SORRY and we will look into it

You can probably use the Nvidia drivers to completely remove all the Nvidia stuff, then run them again to install Physx. Or do a custom install and just select Physx. I was doing the driver sweeper/cc cleaner/safe mode thing over and over, and by the time I replaced the card and saw the Nv drivers had that functionality I wasn't in the mode to troubleshoot further.

It's a pretty good game, but I can't get over the fact of how sluggish movement feels in MP. It feels like you're constantly running in quicksand...

which is probaly more realistic with the ~70 lbs of gear a normal soldier can get stuck carrying around :awe:

Oh sure, but if I want that type of experience I'll play Arma 2.

I dunno, I'm torn. There's just too many snipers in the game and so much cover. So it seems like everytime I need to run out in the open, I'm being sniped. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if I could efficiently zig zag across the terrain.

I noticedthe same thing

they did a great job with vertical levels and cover

but no one has an decent zooming scope except snipers and they are deadly.

maybe it will get easier, I didnt use the minimap much, and I am not sure many people on my team were spotting

it was a nice bf2-esk commorose on Q

I'm enjoying the game a lot. It's a mix of COD and BC2. You die and respawn very quickly. Most guns are extremely accurate, even at range. I don't feel the game suffers from consolitis, it has tons of video customization options, FOV control, ect. Graphics are okay...not spectacular, but functional. Sound is myeh. However, I find the gameplay to be very addicting. Not sure if I will stick with it for long but it's an interesting take on the standard BF/COD gameplay.

Snipers are irritating as all hell, but I'm finding new ways to deal with them.

It's worth $20-30, I wouldn't pay more then that (I got it for $40 with Metro 2033, I'll call it $30 )

If you feel the game feels sluggish, turn off mouse smoothing in the INI file in it's steam configs folder.

Played a little bit last night. Took about 4-5 games to get my bearings.

Love the fact that I can start right off with utilizing a drone helicopter or other neat little gadgets without having to have killstreaks. This helps us noobs enjoy the game a little more.

Snipers weren't too bad in the server I was in, but when they were around you just have to be more cautious in how you move.

Recoil was nil on some guns, heavy on others.

Prone and crouch worked smoothly. Liked how I only have to click once to zoom, no holding the button down.

SMOOTH gameplay. Zero lag. And quick respawning, however you have to click respawn button which is annoying.

Kill or streak messages were too small in font and too quick. Couldn't read most of them.

I don't play a lot of these types of games, so I can't really compare against other games, but I enjoyed Homefront and will be playing again soon.

its raping my 6950 @ 1080P

with everything maxed I was around 30fps on avg

I got MUCH better when I turned it down to medium and got rid of those silly dust effects that get in the way of pwning

some people are bashing the graphics but I think its the style they were going for, everything is faded and looks used and broke down

My 460 is handling it without a hitch with AA at 4x and most effects on High.

Everything on default high setting on my 5770. Not sure about the FPS, but it's smooth enough for me. No noticeable slowdowns or anything like that.
