Anyone else watching the Obama interview on 60 Minutes?

I'm enjoying it thus far.

But are they really as "down to earth" a family as they want us to believe?

Is it mainly about Obama or his family? I'm not really interested in watching if it's about his family.

Also is there a place I can see it online? I don't have a TV in my room and my family probably doesn't want to watch it... I'm all down for torrents btw.

Duuuuude, that's the way these Secret Muslims roll when they hit our shores, having swum all the way, from Kenya.

As soon as they're dry, they steal a Gideon Bible from a Holiday Inn, apply to Harvard Law School, and start running for President.

There's a YouTube video out there that explains it all.

From what I have read and seen they are. My brother in law had his wedding reception at a restaurant in Chicago called Spiaga, which is the Obama's favorite restaurant. They were there last week and ate in the main area with everybody else. Apparently they went there quite often before the election, once my BIL missed them by an hour.

Anecdotal, but interesting anyway.

I tivo'd and am watching it now.
They do seem to have their priorities straight.
And its a pleasure to hear them speak in complete sentences.

The Obama's were there last week and ate in the main dining room with everyone else--surrounded by about 20 secret service agents I presume?

I watched the 60 Minutes interview. I wonder what Obama was really thinking when Steve Croft asked him that dumb question about a college football playoff. Maybe he was thinking, "I'm glad he's not asking me about whether I prefer boxers or briefs."

Wow. Thanks for the link, GTaudiophile, I must say, I was absolutely blown away by the grace and easy, open articulateness of the Obamas. They certainly looked and acted like genuinely first rate, high character people and one solid, loving couple.

Hey, I don't think Barack has any magic bullet for the many grave and nearly intractable problems we will be facing -- I was never an Obamamaniac -- but I think we Americans did remarkably well to chose this man. I think our highly imperfect system kind of worked.

I truly wish the scattered array of bitter, ideologically bound conspiracy clowns still bleating like stuck pigs on this forum could, by some miracle, watch this interview through newly opened eyes and hearts, and maybe lose some of the angry, corrosive hate that consumes and imprisons and blinds them.

May God protect this man and his fine family from harm.

My brother in law is a server there. I'll have to ask him if this is true.

wow, the man drove a humpty old beater car with a rusted thru hole in the floor back during college. And people were calling him elitist?.

I'm not an obamaphile either, but i voted for him in the primaries and the general because i felt he was the real deal.
i really hope this marks a change in what we expect from our leaders from now on, and that people don't go back to settling for the least onerous choice of the two parties.

My wife has read all of his books and other books about Obama. One thing she *really* likes about him is his pragmatic viewpoints that are really well grounded. She cannot stand people who haven't been in other people's shoes, or ones that pander for votes.

One of her favorite examples is stem cell research. Bush was against it...why? Because it wasn't a social conservative thing to be against. However, do you think, for a second, if either of his parents absolutely needed it to maintain their daily lives he'd be against it?

Or what about abortion. What if one of his daughters was raped, would he be against it?

This does apply to most social conservatives. Look at all of the scandals with them in the last few years. The whoring around, gay tendencies, and other items.

Their viewpoints aren't congruent with their actions, they are hollow and cheap.

Obama didn't have a privileged childhood, had student loans, crappy cars, and never had anything handed to him. It is a refreshing perspective from the spoiled brat we had for the last 8 years.

I am sure there was a strong USSS presence.

July 2007 I was walking back from mid-town one day to our apartment on 61st and West End in Manhattan. I usually went down 60th street, through Columbus Circle, right by the Mandarin Oriental. I almost crossed the street when a bunch of black suburbans came out of nowhere and ran the red light. After they passed I hauled ass to the Mandarin to see who it was. About 10 agents came out of the suburbans. Obama came out after, walked about a foot away from me.

I was really tempted to try and get a handshake, but I didn't want a free beatdown by the the USSS and the US taxpayer.

I was very impressed as well by the laid back, easy manner both of them had with the interview. I especially liked how he totally stonewalled Steve when he was trying to get names about Pres Elect Obama's cabinet. And yes, if you haven't read any of Obama's books, please give them a shot. He came from very humble beginings, worked his own way up through law school, and to the president. I don't know much about Michelle's life, but if her pragmatic responses indicate anything, she came from roughly the same background.
And can we please stop asking about the damn dog anyway? There are VERY real problems going on, and I am sure getting the right dog for his children is a 10 minute decision at most (once the hypo-allergenic dogs have been identified and see if there are any of those in a shelter).

Well - OCguy, JS80, Butterbean, Corbett, TechAZ, ProfJohn, CADsortaGUY (and many others that I missed) -this means you.

Can you watch this with an opened mind and comment? Pay attention to how honest and down to earth he is and post back. Please, for yourselves and your country, watch it with an open mind.

I reject the premiss that I need to "lose some of the angry, corrosive hate that consumes and imprisons and blinds me".

I'd say that more describes how people like Perknose and retrospooty have felt about Geroge W Bush for the past 8 years.

I wish Obama all the best, and hope he can follow through with some of the things he promised during his campaign like tax and spending cuts.

And YES, Obama is my president. Something you Bush haters seemed to have trouble ying about him during his presidency.

Those were not my words, and I should have softened it better... I was asking the more vocally conservative members on this forum to listen to the interview with an opened mind.

And by the way, I supported Bush for the first few years and gave him the benefit of the doubt (didnt vote for him but gave him a chance). I didnt start railing agaist him until it became obvious that he was a horrible president - starting with the day we went into Iraq. I wasnt consumed by hate, nor was I blinded. I was embarrased by him and his actions, thats all. So were the majority of Americans.

I think you are missing the fact that I already gave you the responce you believe the video will compell me to give. I dont need to watch the video to think Obama is a decent human being and I hope he does well as my president.

I think one of the main problems most libs (and others) had with bush, was his arrogance, and refusal to admit he was wrong. He lacked humility, he lacked integrity, and clearly, Pres Elect Obama realizes he is not infallible, but will compensate for that by allowing for change, and putting people in opposition to him in cabinet positions. That, I think is one of the main reasons there was such a strong ill will for bush and his ego.

Wow.. Do you have a poster of Obamamessiah above your bed too? You sound like a love struck teenager. Its amazing how we went from the system is corrupt, Diebold will rig the election, people are racists, blah blah blah to 'our system kind of worked'. How about those of us who didn't vote for him treat him like people have treated GWB the past 4 years? I'll show him the same respect you have given Bush.

Sorry to interupt the circle jerk in here. Basically we have heard that he is a black guy that can speak well.. I guess that will make him a good President. The fun thing about the next 4 years is we will be able to point out how all of you are hypocrits when Obama does a lot of the same thing Bush did that you were freaking out over.

I'd actually like to go on the record as predicting that you will actually unsticky the 'Dead Soldiers' thread so as to not draw attention to the fact that they are still dying under Obama.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of people who disagree with him in cabinet positions so far.. He's coming from Chicago politics, one of the most corrupt in the country.. I love the 'refusal to admit he was wrong argument'.. You mean like Obama and the surge? Give me a break.

Riight. Because I am posting about what a good person Rush is and how 'personable' he is. You forgot to add something about GWB in there as well.. maybe call him a war criminal?
