To be short, I went under the knife in April to get cartilage reshaped and they found that my plica was all messed up, so they cut it out almost entirely. Since that point I still have the stingers in my knee from before and now my knee buckles really easy. My meniscus and others seemed fine when the surgeon cut me open.

Is this common three months after a knee surgery to be fucked up like this? I even got cortisone shots in m knee a week ago and it doesn't seem like it helped the pain go down.

Did you do some sort of physical therapy/rehab? Rehabbing a knee can definitely be a long process. I have a friend whose knees were never the same after his first surgery. Some people just don't heal well, others don't help themselves to heal well by overusing their knees too soon after surgery, etc... It's also possible you might have to undergo multiple surgeries.

A few years back I woke up with a sore knee, did not think much of it. Weeks later it was still sore, and I could not bend it all the way anymore. Ended up having to go for rehab where they made me do specific workouts and stuff, and it's been ok since. Never figured out why it happened though.

Yeah I'm still going to physical therapy.

I'm pretty pissed that my doctor said to get up and start using it as much as possible once I could kick the crutches. I did and I wouldn't be shocked if that's why this process is slooooow. I was finally able to kick hydrocodone a couple weeks ago, but some days the pain is too much. I take tons of tylenol now and it barely does a thing. Yesterday I likely overexerted myself and now I feel like I'll be down for days.

Thankfully this injury happened in the line-of-duty with the Navy, and they're paying for all the surgeries and treatment. The bad part of that is that I'm still waiting on my back pay from them as they have to reimburse me for my lost wages and housing allowance. No money since April has been great for my marriage.

Not your problem but ACL reconstruction and torn cartilage X 2.

I take 6 fish oil caps/day. Does wonders. Also bike/elliptical 5/6 days per week. Seems like I have more pain if I don't exerciser.

Doesn't the cortisone just block pain ( not in your case) so you have the potential of doing more damage?

Cortisone should also help with inflammation. If his plica is inflamed and getting pinched, the cortisone could be part of that treatment.

Ibuprofen.

I cant. I'm allergic to the entire NSAID group. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc. It's either tylenol or hydrocodone and up. The Hydrocodone I had been taking since january as I broke my hand on the job, but had to cut it out about 3 weeks ago. I became dependant on it to sleep through the night and to do regular activities. It has some horrible G.I. problems after a while. That and I took the maximum amount to attend a drill weekend and to be honest I don't remember much of those two days. That sunday I went cold turkey and the withdrawal from 5 months of regular Hydrocodone usage is nothing to sneeze at.

Cortisone shots were to reduce swelling because I cannot take NSAIDs. I'd say the swelling has gone down but it still hurts like mad after I use the knee for anything other than walking around for a short distance.

Have you asked for some Tylenol-3 (tylenol w/ codeine)? Should be a relative step down from the hydrocodone, but more effective at pain killing than tylenol alone.

Sucks about the NSAIDs. Research the fish oil for inflammation. 2/day won't help. If no difference after a couple of weeks, you haven't lost much.

I do. I have worn out all the cushion part behind each knee cap. I started getting synvisc injections last year. It has worn off now, but mine lasted almost a full year. The substance Almost removed all of my knee issues, I have to go again here soon they are flaring up again, but it does work.

I use orthovisc. No cartilage in either knee. Works well, unfortunately, I've started to see light bruising on the inside of my knees at the joint with some pain and swelling. Looks like squats are getting too heavy for the knee joint. sigh...
