I am using a drinking straw, cut to length, to prop up the card on one end. But I am not sure if I should worry about electrical charge. I don't think drinking straw has high electrical conductivity. But I am not so sure so I want to ask the experts here.

The straw touches the bottom of the case so it should be grounded right?

I was going to use fishing line but the top of the case is block by a case fan.

Can you post a picture of how much it is sagging without the straw

dude you're perfectly fine.... that's a pretty ghetto fix but no need to worry about a plastic straw conducting a current

I wouldn't be worried then. As long as it's screwed securely it's fine

the PCI-E holder should be enough unless were talking about a dual GPU die with 2 monster heat sinks.

Even then Gpu vendors went to that vapor style cooler to lessen the mass on the GPU cooler.

However if your GPU is sagging... keep and eye on it... if it sags too much, the PCI-holder isnt holding, ive seen cases where the card ripped the PCI-E slot off entirely.,

About a year or so ago I was doing a build for a friend and the videocard also had sag issues. The build was in a taller case so I used a paper towel tube (the cardboard tube at the center of a roll of papertowels) to prop it up for him but the tube was always being buffeted by the side panel fan. The solution I finally came up with was rather simple. The videocard had a small hole at the end of the PCB so I looped some fishing line through it and strung the line up to the top grate of the case. The sag was eliminated and there was no further issue.

My 7950's do some.
But not enough to scare me.

And if they ever sag enough that i feel they need support, my CM HAF X case came with a bracket you can install to do just that.
I wonder why these optional brackets aren't more common.

If its sagging,

I did something like this except with a drinking straw. I wanted to use something wooden but it'll be hard to cut to the right length ( I don't have the right cutting tool).

However, I'd be weary of the pencil lead because I believe it's quite conductive. I might be wrong though.

I have always ziptied my 7970's power cables in a way that they keep a little upward pressure on the end of the card. Seems to get rid of the waterblock sag.

Great.. Now we have to check whether our PCI slots come in B, C, or double D.
