I was addicted to a game by Sierra called The Realm. This was before EverQuest and UO went retail. I think I played it during my sophomore year of high school since I distincly remember people going crazy about Green Day on the game's chat channels. Well, my grades fell a little sophomore year and I had to ditch the game. Also, when I was a freshman in undergrad, I played Rainbow 6 online a ton. Me and a couple of other people from the same university that played together were just awesome at it.

Now I don't play anything... MMORPGs just require too much time now to stay competetive.

I spent a lot of time playing it while it was in beta. But I wasn't willing to spend money on it.

One game when it came out the first two months I had played it half the time, seriously 720 hours(1 full month) out of 1440 hours(2 months). After that I rarely played, and to this day I rarely play a MMOG. Mid Nov-Mid Jan a couple years ago IIRC, most was over thanksgiving and then christmas break.

wow, you must have some damn good self-discipline.

excellent story.

Just take a few steps back and analyze ANYTHING you put more than 10 hours into. I don't care if its building a patio or a small computer mod project. This gives you an objective viewpoint to determine if its really worth it. Especially for games where you can spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours in them.

I'd estimate my counter-strike clock is at about 3000 hours if I had some way to track the hours played.

Now, looking back on that, if I had a job for 3000 hours I could have a considerable amount more money saved up for a home down payment when I'm done college.

Game addiction is real despite what people say. Realizing it is the first step. The second that you can't go a WEEK without a game means your in trouble. For me with Diablo 2, I couldn't even sleep for fear I'd miss the "ultimate trade".

If anyone needs any help kickin their addiction just pvt msg me and I can offer some more help.

I was a DAOC junkie for about a year.

Luckily the lack of high-level content eventually freed me from its grasp.

yeah, i will second this whole post...the hardest part about the whole situation is admitting you are addicted to a game. most people cant understand it. its not the kind of addiction like a drug or something, but more like you feel like you are heading for a goal of some sort and you want so badly to attain it. this is very real and all of you who will scorn us for saying this obviously have never played or gotten attached to a MMORPG. after i stopped playing EQ, i realized how much of a waste of my life it was. i cant remember anything i did my freshman year of high school and that is sad for me because i feel like i missed out. i was playing EQ every waking moment. well, i just bought star wars 5 weeks ago. i am already a master doctor and master combat medic. i have no more skill points available, thats how much ive played. i realized the addiction last week and i threw in the towel. i gave away my stuff in-game and cancelled my account. i am so ashamed i did this not only once, but twice. for some reason, i thought i would be able to control it. you cant.

AC2. They just Added. TONS if new mobs a

new Island
100 new levels (150 levels now)
58 new skills
Including passive and active Skills.
New Chat Servers (because the old one sucked)
TONS of new stuff to do. and quests that take WEEKS To finish and not an hour.

The new Island have those "Kill this beast"

however the Beasts moves. you could spend quite a while looking for it.

Killer armor

Enough content added in sept that SoE would put out a new expansion and make people pay $50 for it.

Turbine put it out for FREE. all of this was in the Septmeber patch.
Every month new content

I love that game

Yes. I'm addicted to ac2.

Yes. it sucked for a long time. it has its issues every MMORPG does, and in all reality. IF my friends aren't on I don't play. It's not even so much the game that I like, it's how much blasted fun I have playing it with my friends.

Diablo 2. Then everquest for a year. EQ turned into a "wait for the guild to get a raid going" before you do anything. Everquest got boring, but I still loved the game for some reason. Then I finally quit. I still think about it sometimes. Its been over a year now. I almost bought it the other week!

EQ release till early 2001.
SWG beta3 till 1 month after release.(so like 2 months)
Don't think I'm gonna play anymore MMORPGs...I have a bit of a compulsion to "beat" them or become powerful fast...which takes too much time/effort.

I still play FPS alot...but its no where near as bad...I just play to have fun, and have no problems going a week or 2 without playing....but when I do sit down I ussually play a long time...but It's fine with me, I just sit down for an afternoon and have some fun.

The only MMORPG I play is Battlefield 1942. I like to cast sniper rifle on my enemies.

actually, the most recent patches have helped a considerable amount with gameplay stability and general annoying issues. this last huge patch had an incredible amount of fixes. what everyone isnt realizing is that they all start out like this. everquest has awesome content, awesome gameplay, and is solid as a rock, but its also very developed and has been around a while. star wars will be the same way. this is the 2nd HUGE patch SWG has encountered since its release, and after each was a massive difference.
