Has anyone here ever bought or used Ashley furniture? What was your impression of the quality and service? I just moved to a new area/apartment and was looking for some furniture that was better than Walmart, but not the quality of stuff you would buy to outfit a home with.

Their furniture seemed to be about in the price range I was looking at, but it seems if you search for reviews on Ashley furniture, you can find a lot of unhappy customers. Others point out that because they are such a large company, they are bound to get more negative reviews just because of the sheer volume of business they do.

I bought a new couch and love seat from the local Ashley furniture store a couple of years ago. The sales people were annoying and pushy as hell, but I found what I wanted for a great price so I didn't really care. The quality has been fine (mine are micro fiber). It took about 6 weeks after I ordered them to get here, however the delivery was free.

Overall I was pleased with the whole experience.

We bought matching sets of a dresser and nite stand for our two girls. The build quality on the furniture is ok, solid but doubtful if its real wood. We have had it for two years and i they dont have any issues with it.

We didnt buy the furniture at the Ashley Furniture store, we got it at some discount furniture place, dont recall the name. I'm assuming it was discontinued.

I've seen $4,000 sofas that didn't have cusions you could flip. In fact, neither of mine do and they weren't cheap furniture. I actually prefer it that way. No dog hair or junk falls down in between them that you have to clean out. Plus if you are sitting on it with multiple people somebody doesn't have to straddle the crack.

FWIW, I looked at Ashley. The salespeople were actually some of the most laidback I'd seen. Much better than your typical furniture store that hawk you like a fresh piece of meat as soon as you walk in.

I just didn't think their stuff was as nice as it could be given the prices. During some sales it would have been an "okay" value, but I'd rather spend a wee bit more and get something that I really liked.

My living room and bedroom are outfitted with Ashley furniture. Great quality, and I love the look. I can post pics if you want.

My roommate worked at Ashley for ~6months. I'll e-mail him a link to this thread, as he has a rarely used AT account.

My daughter has Ashley bedroom furniture. I think its partical board/MDF will a thin veneer. Its ok, not sure I would buy anything from them I wanted to last a long time under heavy use.

We have an Ashley Millennium collection leather couch and love seat in our upstairs living room and a Natuzzi (Italian) set in the basement living room. The Natuzzi stuff was twice as expensive or more but insanely more comfortable and well-built. The bottom cushions on the Ashley stuff feel like they're made with a cheap springy harder foam...not very comfortable to sit or lay on for long periods of time. Luckily we rarely sit upstairs and the price was right so it's no big deal. Probably a good buy for an apartment or area with less traffic.

1st) I haven't bought anything from Ashley before, but I have friends who have, and love what they bought.

2nd) About the whole "fake wood" thing, most high end furniture that has panels (night/TV stands, bookshelves, desk tops, etc.) will be made from MDF with a real wood veneer because it's more stable than solid hardwood. Hardwood tops and sides tend to twist and they expand a lot more than MDF and particle board. So really, it doesn't mean poor quality or poor workmanship if MDF is used. The Architectural Woodwork Institute sets standards for woodworking every year, and MDF is used in a lot high end furniture and cabinets. There just happen to be places like Walmart and Target and Ikea that use it and make it look cheap.

get the good stuff...it will last longer...i am tired of buying junk crap like Rooms 2 Go and Ashley....get real furniture...yes it does cost more, but it will last a great deal longer, be more comfortable....

nothing worse than buying crap and having it wear out in a couple of years, and get uncofortable...i am sitting on a POS Rooms 2 Go furniture couch right now.....Incomfortable...cheap junk

never should have bought it...

Ashley is basically cheap furniture, but for the price it's good stuff, and if you're on a budget, go for it. I have a fair amount of Ashley Furniture, and it's served me well.

Alot of their stuff is still made in the USA. I see hundreds of people going to Ashley Furniture Factories in my area. I don't know what these people would be doing in there all day if they weren't making some furniture.

From what I understand, they're along the lines of Rooms to Go.

OK for the price but not great.

Do you have an Ikea near you?

It'd be worth checking out what they have, if you do.

That stuff is ugly pseudovictorian crap-- it reeks of upper middle class family who just chopped down a forest to build a cookie cutter low quality contractor house in a pedestrian unfriendly neighborhood.

Because sending the stuffs back to China for repairs or refurb is just too damn expensive. Besides, someone has to unpack all the shiets that come off the containers.

Yeah, I bought my current computer table at IKEA, it was a Galant corner table. Unfortunately their selection of dressers, sofas, and nightstands was nowhere near as large as Ashley's. Plus I didn't find IKEA's sofas to be very comfortable.

I also looked at a Rooms to Go store, and they were even more expensive than Ashley's

My wife and I bought 2 bedrooms worth of furniture there almost 2 years ago and we love it. The price was right and the style was what my wife wanted.
