Anyone ever get stuck in an elevator

Or know someone who was? Some of the colleges I go to for work have some old buildings with some old elevators in them and I am convinced I am going to get stuck in one some day. Just road up on one with an excessive amount of vibration and squealing but I made it without incident. Hopefully there will at least be decent wifi so I can post here about it if I do get stuck

LOL. Sounds like where I work. And to top it off, there are only a handful of elevator techs on schedule at anytime. God forbid you get stuck after hours or on a weekend. might as well get comfortable.

Where I'm at code requires a wired emergency telephone line in all elevators that goes to local PD dispatch.

Cell phones and wifi often does not work inside a metal box....

Made me think of when I used to work in the Texas and Pacific Terminal warehouse building that was built in 1931. We'd take the elevator to the top floor, then select the basement button. It was almost as good as the Superman ride at Six Flags as you were practically weightless during the descent.

Yeah I did for the first time at work like six months or so ago. The elevator would go up and down but the door just wouldn't open. After f'ing around with it for a couple minutes I picked up the phone in it and it dialed someone I could hardly hear. I managed to tell them what was going on but just after then the door opened for someone trying to get on the elevator (someone from my office actually, on the 4th floor). I'm like "yeah you might not wanna get in here, I was just stuck in it for ten minutes" lol. I emailed the building people about it but it's been fine since then. The elevators are kinda crappy and slow though, and the building seems somewhat newish too.

I have twice. It sucks. The second time I was with my brother who is a fire fighter and he knew the trick of not even bothering pressing the emergency button, but calling 911 instead, and they will dispatch fire fighters there immediately. Like 5 minutes after the 911 call we could hear sirens and we were only in there for like 10-15 minutes, stuck between 1st and 2nd floor.

No, but when I used to go see my great grandma at the nursing home (she passed away years ago, miss her!), the elevator there would sometimes randomly turn off half way through and stop, the fan would even stop, light would stay on though. Then it would turn back on, and keep going. It's like the computer would randomly reset or something.

I was with my mom when it happened and my mom said that it happened to her when she had my great grandma with her in it and my great grandma was like "oh don't worry, it does that all the time!". I always thought that was so funny. Zero worries in the world haha. I can totally hear her say that too.

I dunno if this situation applies, but back at a hotel, my keycard stopped working in the middle of a descent, I couldn't use it to get to my floor. I had to walk to reception for them to give me a card that would actually work.

I lived in a building where someone would get stuck in the elevator at least once a week, maybe almost every day. People constantly being rescued from the thing. I never, ever, used it though. Stairs for me, every time. Unfortunately some people in the building were wheelchair users, so it was a bit of a scandalous situation, really.

I never use the things unless I absolutely can't avoid them. Not only the risk of getting trapped, but...well I've seen the Omen movies and the Resident Evil ones - even worse things can happen!

Plus using them for anything other than going 20+ floors up is just pure laziness. Rather like using motorised transport for any trip shorter than 3 miles.

Yeah I'm not carrying expensive hardware I can barely lift up 6 flights of stairs nor am I going to send it up by itself in an elevator while I take the stairs

I have---- turns out you can usually force the doors open and you're usually only 1'-2' from the floor, so you can just walk out.

I was briefly stuck in some ancient hydraulic elevator in downtown Ft. Worth several years ago. The procedure to get out was everyone jump to get it dislodged then reset the breaker. I loved it, some of the others in there not so much.

I did the mistake of carrying a CRT monitor up 2 floors using the stairs when I worked at the hospital. I was new to IT and was like "oh ya I got this". Let me tell you by the time I got to the room I was glad to put that thing down. The next time I had to carry something like that, I used a cart and the elevator like any sane person. No sense in trying to act all tough lol.
