I live in an area where cable and dsl service do not exist and satellite is a little too pricey. I run a small network at home and wondered if anyone ever tried multilink internet access? sometimes this is called shotgun. I am considering this option and wondered if anyone had any experiences to share. input would be very helpful.thanks in advance.

Edit:FYI multilink is the process of using two modems and two phonelines in one connection to achieve a higher bandwidth. very best would be 100k.

Thank you for responding. I was curious if it helped your download speed. I build comps on a regular basis and downloading drivers can be cumbersome on dialup

Don't you need two phone lines and a ISP that supports this type of connection? I would like more info myself.

FWIW, I used it for about three months before I could get broadband. My analysis is that it's not worth the bother. You rarely get the speed you expect, and I kept having it drop off one modem if it wasn't busy. I tried two ISP's, and two types of modems, USR's and Zoom's, never did get it to be as seamless as I'd like.

Since it requires two phone lines and more money to the ISP, I'd choose any kind of broadband, even satellite connections, before I invested in this idea.

Well satellite costs anywhere from $500-$700 to get started plus $99 a month for the first 15 months. then $59 after that.i can try multilinkfor the $22 phoneline and $25-$40 a month depending on ISP. i may end up w/ satellite but I really don't wanna plunk down $500 just to get started. Thanks for your input though. sounds like your experince wasn't all that enjoyable.

I dropped back to one line until I could get broadband. Since I also had a cheap ISP, I'd dial into that one to do massive downloads, because dial-up is unusable when you're downloading. OTOH, with broadband you don't really notice any significant change. I have a bunch of stuff downloading now, and the Internet seems every bit as responsive as when I'm not downloading.
