Corporate HQ has decided in install a optical disk autochanger for data archiving. The head network administrator has been having a dog of a time getting it to work. It is connected to a HP LH3000 (JUNK) server that handles 4 robotic DLT autochangers. Everything is external. Each one is on its own Adaptec 2940U2W Pro SCSI adapter. A Adaptec 2940UW SCSI adapter was put in for the optical jukebox but the server refuses to be recognize the device.
When daisychaining the optical jukebox to one of the tape autochangers, everything works fine until there is an attempt to dismount the optical. During that time it will also dismount the tape drive and kill the backup session. We went through all the standard stuff like making sure drivers and firmware were up to date, all cables were checked for proper termination, SCSI ids were set correctly.
Calling tech support did not resolve the issue either.
The OS is Novell NetWare 5.0. Service Pack 2a has not been installed since it would lead to directory syncronization problems. Were down to a few last ditch fixes. I suggested putting all the tape autochangers on one SCSI card and the optical on it's own. I also suggested trying to run the autochanger on it's own without any tape drives on the server.
Right now I am betting that it's something to do with the software since there are no indications of bad hardware. Before that all the tape autochangers worked flawlessly.
Sorry for the mess and weird details but anyone else have any other clues?
