Not too much info here: http://oneplus.net/

However, the details look pretty good so far: http://www.phonedog.com/2014/03/09/oneplus-one-confirmed-to-feature-3100mah-non-removable-battery/

All for a price below $400. To me this is pretty cool.

So far so good but still a lot of key features that must be present.

The 1+1 is starting off on a good foot by putting in a 3100mah battery and having Cyanogenmod on day 1. I have a preference for removeable batteries but I've always maintained that a large enough battery renders it a minor quibble. Since they're also talking about software optimizations that should mean thermals won't be a problem. This factor alone already puts it above the M8 (and given Google's track record, the Nexus phones) for me.

Still, there's still a lot of other things the 1+1 needs right now. My laundry list is:
1) headphone audio quality needs to be at least "average" (the N5 would be considered "poor")
2) device width cannot exceed the GS4 (which is close to the limit of single hand use in the average case)
3) wireless and cellular connectivity must be solid (seriously, if it has terrible reception, then what's the point?)
4) either 64gb standard (non-slow) internal flash or microsd (microsd is icing but the issue is sufficient storage space. This is another factor the Nexus phones completely fall flat at)
5) minimum iPhone 4S class camera (I think an 8MP decent low-light shooter isn't too much to ask for. Something like 4MP is ridiculously little especially if the low-light performance isn't _that_ much better)

Sure, there are lots of other "icing" factors but I think the above list is reasonable and absolutely critical to me.

I for one am really looking forward to to the One+ as Samsung and HTC are both just living on last year's phone by tweaking a few things here and there but nothing significantly different than last year's model.

If they can live up to the hype this could be one sweet phone.

Still, there's still a lot of other things the 1+1 needs right now. My laundry list is:
1) headphone audio quality needs to be at least "average" (the N5 would be considered "poor") the N5 has a pretty low barrier to beat here. i'd argue the same applies for the camera.
2) device width cannot exceed the GS4 (which is close to the limit of single hand use in the average case)
3) wireless and cellular connectivity must be solid (seriously, if it has terrible reception, then what's the point?) certainly has a point, but I don't think this has been an issue has it? I can point to phones that have sucked in the past too like the Nexus One and Nexus S which had attenuation issues too, but no one really made a big fuss about it.
4) either 64gb standard (non-slow) internal flash or microsd (microsd is icing but the issue is sufficient storage space. This is another factor the Nexus phones completely fall flat at) 16 and 64gb options only it seems. shouldn't really be a big issue considering a lot of OEMs out there use low quality NAND as well. The Nexus 7 original is a perfect example.
5) minimum iPhone 4S class camera (I think an 8MP decent low-light shooter isn't too much to ask for. Something like 4MP is ridiculously little especially if the low-light performance isn't _that_ much better) that's a pretty low standard, no? I'd say iPhone 5 camera minimum. this is where I'm hesitant. We'll see how they perform.

I guess the other thing is since their slogan is "Never settle," I think they're targeting for a pretty solid package here. Not a phone like the Nexus 5 that compromises in camera quality for example.

Also 9 band support is pretty sweet. International roaming finally.

Will the OnePlus One have 4G LTE? Yes, it will have 9-band LTE support: 1/3/4/7/17/38/39/40/41

The Nexus 5 camera was actually pretty good after they pushed out the software update. Image quality was as good as most others in good lighting.

The One Plus One (I'm not a fan of the name) really has my interest as the forum is getting pretty active and they appear to be pulling the right strings.

I would expect that I'll pick one up to try out as I like to use them as my daily phone to see how they actually works for how I use a phone before making any decisions. Using a Note 3 right now but would not mind going a little smaller.

@Delirium

I only point those out because those are areas I think are critical yet phones end up skimping on anyway. It's ridiculous. Which is why I have lowered expectations. You're right though that they OUGHT to deliver better than my baseline considering their "never settle" slogan.

For audio, the GS4 has very respectable SNR and only is weak in terms of power output (and this only applicable to those expensive headphones). Yet you have the Nexus 5 mess despite it being a flagship. Aiming for GS4 level should be very achievable and still could be considered "good".

For the wireless connectivity, this is all antennas from wifi to bluetooth to cellular to GPS. For example, some people have problems with the GS4 GPS because the antenna somehow detaches. The Nexus 4 has wifi attenuation problems. Getting this right is actually somewhat tricky as Apple found out with their iPhone 4 (where they did a ton of testing and still missed something important).

64GB is what I heard and that's great. Assuming it's true (not official yet) and it's fast NAND then it's all good. If there were an 128GB that they didn't gouge for, I'd even spring for that.

A fast clicking 8MP with illuminated backside for decent low-light ought to be easy to achieve and yet it's a sore point. I'd like to say the iPhone 5 camera minimum too but some of that is achieved with DSP tricks that may be a problem. I'd personally like an 8MP fast clicking shooter with One-class low-light capabilities along with OIS. And it has to be an absolutely reliable shooter (Samsung camera app, why do you randomly crash?).

Hmm... will be interesting to see how this turns out. A 3100 mAh battery and 64gigs of (quality) memory would be enough for me to give up needing expandable memory. If it's fully international and works 100% on AT&T it would be hard to pass up.

HOWEVER, and I know this is going to sound stupid to a lot of you, I would still be hard pressed to give up my Samsung simply because of the IR blaster I've come to love. The smart remote app was worth the money and has come in handy often.

Yeah, that's what happened with my GS4; it's a 5" screen in the body of a 4.8" phone.

But I really consider the GS4 to be a 5" phone. The 1+1 photo uses the huge Z1 which is kinda misleading.

If they had fit the 5.5" screen into the footprint of the GS4 then it would have been amazing achievement.

Sounds even better with a big screen. Coming from a Note 3 this is sounding better and better.

out of curiousity, what does cyanogenmod have that stock android does not? I figure people get cyanogenmod to get away from like the crappy samsung implementation of android. They get it to be closer to stock android.

Cyanogenmod does clean up a lot of "rough edges" in Android. Google is getting better with stock but still isn't as nice.

For example, something as simple as being able to search from the dialer screen using T9 wasn't available in stock for a long time (I don't even know if it's been added into stock yet for that matter).

Yes it was a 4.3 feature. CyanogenMod still has nice things like quiet hours, and the ability to go back to pre 4.2 vibrate settings where every notification doesn't vibrate, and the phone would respect in-app settings.

To me custom QS tiles are important too. QS tiles were long overdue, yet they have little value when you can't add more toggles. But the rest of CM has been focused on some stuff that I find unimportant like Koush's little projects like Voice+, ScreenCast, and also the new WhisperPush. There's still plenty of features that Android needs IMO, but it seems the other ROMs are handling it.

It's like a TARDIS. It's bigger on the inside than the outside.

Actually what he said makes sense. The footprint of a typical 5 inch phone may be 5.8 inches(hypothetical) so they were able to fit their 5.5 inch screen in they typical 5 inch phone's 5.8 inch footprint.
They're using the XPeria Z1 as a comparison which has a giant bezel.

http://www.phonearena.com/phones/si...ia-Z1,Samsung-Galaxy-S4/phones/7710,8000,7597

It'll be huge. Sure they can talk about minimal bezels, but for those who found the S4 at the limits of what they'd like to hold, this is going to be bigger.

Also check out the camera:

http://forums.oneplus.net/threads/contest-guess-the-oneplus-one-photo.368/

I'm going to guess:

1) G2
2) HTC One
3) One+
4) Note 3

4) Note 3

From the MP counts, I'd wager it's:
1) Htc One
2) Lg G2
3) One+One
4) Samsung Note 3

#1 is too small. 4MP is still not enough
#2 is weirdly zoomed in and rather blurry despite the overblown brightness
#3 has decent detail but has the overblown brightness that makes people think it's a great night picture
#4 is dark and noisy but has the most detail

yeah you're probably right.

the overblown brightness and there seems to be some saturation/vibrance bump to the photo for #3. A bit too much for my taste. I prefer more realistic photos.

They didn't include me in on the joke either.

I'm not getting prematurely excited until see a product, a price, and availability in my country.

You don't have to get over excited. It's just worth keeping your eyes on in case it actually ends up with everything they claim. I certainly wouldn't have heard about it without people talking about it like this. I don't expect much, but you never know.
