Ok, here are a few scribbled thoughts. Not sure if you guys need more photos anyway because 1) I took them with my iPhone, 2) there were a lot of blogs there. Phandroid, The Verge, Android Police were there.
So regarding the screen I found the screen to be vibrant and beautiful. It might be the dim setting, but I found the colors to be magnificent. I've always felt the Nexus 4 to be extremely washed out and even the Nexus 5 a little too (until you calibrate it to Gamma 2.2). But next to my iPhone 5, Nexus 5, and some other dude's HTC One, I found the screen of the OnePlus One to be beautiful. We'll need Anand or someone with an objective colorimeter to give the final verdict, but I can tell my eyes were pleased.
As for the size, you guys may know me here as someone to champion smaller screens, and yeah this phone is huge, but it's just gorgeous. It's well built, with minimal bezels, and a great ergonomic feel to the curved back. Like in many ways I almost ignored the size concern. I wouldn't say it's too big, but at the same time I wasn't really testing it out for size.
The general feel felt great. I like the premium build and the recessed bezels.
Several other notes:
- I love the double tap to wake as well as the gesture wake (circle for camera, V for torch)
- The capacitive buttons were very dim. Not sure why that is. I almost couldn't see them. But i mainly used onscreen buttons, and that's how I'd see myself using the phone given the capacitive button layout is not the standard Android layout.
- The camera burst mode wasn't particularly amazing. Maybe 3-4 fps shooting. That should translate to a faster HDR than the Nexus 5, but I was hoping for something faster.
- Still the HDR concern is probably lessened given that I found the camera to be extremely good in low light. Far better than my iPhone and Nexus 5. On the Nexus 5, I found it more necessary to use HDR mode to get a good photo (and when I did, it was great), but I'd rather not use a slow shooting mode to capture normal images.
As a drooling fanboy, I approached Pete Lau and Carl Pei and shook their hands, telling them I watched the keynote live and I will be in China next week. From some Google fu, it looks like their office is within 10 minutes of my hotel in Shenzhen, so we'll see if I can drop by.
Apologies for not doing a real serious thorough apples to apples comparison.
