Got mine yesterday.

1. The packaging and included accessories are top notch - substantially better than Apple's without going overboard. I do wish they came with earbuds as I go through them pretty quickly.

2. The clear case you can order is extremely slim but basically gives no protection in a drop. All it will keep is your back and sides from being scratched.

3. The phone build quality is good, but the back material feels cheaper than I expected (though does not attract fingerprints). I'd say overall it's similar in solidness to the G2, feels a bit better in build quality than the Note 3, but not an iPhone/M8 feel.

4. The overall experience is not that dissimilar to my Note 3 - in fact if you already have a Note 3, then unless you just want to play around with a new phone, there really is no incentive to switch. I was running a custom ROM that came with a GPE theme (Dynamic Kat 4.2) so overall I can do pretty much the same things on both phones.

CM has a bunch of built in customization which is fine, but nothing wow. One thing I do appreciate is that you can have the phone unlock after the 4th digit of your PIN, instead of having to click Ok.

Unlocking the bootloader, installing TWRP, and rooting was ridiculously easy.

5. I'm running a cheap hard plastic screen protector until my Orzly glass protector arrives. So I'm guessing it's what's diminishing touch response compared to the Note 3 - I'll withhold judgement until the glass protector comes.

6. And yes, I do have the yellow at the bottom of the screen. It's not horrible, but I can notice it. I'll try the sun method for a while and see if it gets better.

Hope the sun works for you. I've been bathing it in UV and Sun for a while and it's still there. I went back to the m7 while I wait for their next step in the refund process. I wish I didn't notice the yellow like most of you or got a good one but unfortunately it's distracting and takes away from the screen experience.

1. Absolutely. Just unboxing it let's you know right away that the phone means business.

4. Well yes but how much does the Note 3 go for and how much later will it get L after OPO? Agree on the build quality. Overall, OPO shames quite a few premium priced phones out there.

One thing I noticed post update is the 4G is replaced with LTE in the reception icon. There are quite a few neat things about the phone. I like how recharging is indicated with different "shades" on the notification LED, yellow for 55% battery is different than the 70%.

Take a look at the spreadsheet on post 1 and give the invite to someone who needs it if you are not using it.

Looks like OnePlus has found another contest idea to piss people off...
http://phandroid.com/2014/08/12/oneplus-one-ladies-first-contest/

They ask ladies to take pictures of themselves and post it on their forums and the top 50 will get an invite to buy the phone.

As a guy, I'm not horribly offended by the idea. But I'm told this is sexist and demeaning. And I can appreciate that this might not be the best of ideas. I guess this means the wet t-shirt contest is out?

I'm not one to jump on board the sexism/feminism train and think a lot of the stuff we see today is people being too sensitive to everything, but this promotion is pretty fucking idiotic.

When I open volume controls I see a slider for alarms.

My only current gripe is that the "OK Google" detection is not very good, I have to hold the phone very close for it to detect.
Do you have the 30O update yet? The 25R update is definitely subpar. I posted this on JIRA and its been fixed. Running CM nightlies and its as good as my CM11.

Ya, I can't help but wonder if their PR department is run by a bunch of wacky teens.

Their return policy is 14 days. I initially asked for a refund in my original email. Going to send another one today stating just that.

I shouldn't have to lose money on it and I shouldn't have to lie to sell it because people on Swappa do know about the yellow band issue. I'll take it with me on vacation and try to sell it at my friend's location.

But really a cut and paste reply? The screen is just warm, that's the design, it's normal. I can't believe people buy that crap.

It's like purchasing a car and you notice some strange noise. But the owner tells you well it's been inspected and passed. If you keep the Windows up the noise is not an issue.
Look, this is my position based off of reading OnePlus's response. You've heard me on the other forums too, but it's pretty much this:

  • Its not the best design in the world, but this is what they did with the backlight.
  • Throw in other factors like the screen is on the warm side, having those backlights so close to the edge of the screen gives an enhanced yellow effect.
  • There might be some glue effect too.
  • This is an issue that affects EVERY OPO because every OPO has the backlights positioned where they are. However, due to natural variance in each screen, there are some varying differences in how bad the yellow looks. Likely some variance in the glue operation too maybe?
You could point to other products that were designed poorly like the Nexus 5 and its edge backlighting or maybe Dell monitors and their backlight bleeds. Its just part of the design. Its not perfect, but you can't compare this to a car making noise when thats likely a single car's trouble.

Its obvious no engineer designed this phone with a yellow band in mind, but its a set of compromises--they had to put the backlight there for their design. Could it have been designed better? Perhaps, but it is what it is.

OnePlus' position is that this is just how its designed, and they'll mitigate it in 30O update with a less yellow calibration overall (I find my yellow band to be more of a dark band now, and over the 2 months I've had my phone I swear its gotten less obvious). So if you don't like it, I suggest you take advantage of the 14 day return policy.

To be fair though their cut and paste response isn't too good, but at the same time you need to know that they're not letting you play the panel lottery and redraw 20 times until you're happy. Return it not under the premise of a yellow screen but just under the 14 day return policy and you're good.

Or their PR department understands that most people have no idea what OnePlus is and that any publicity is good publicity. Also if they can get a bunch of hot women out in the world using their phone in public that is a publicity win.

I have no idea why they decided to put the lights on the bottom so close to the screen. Why could they not put it behind the screen like other phones. To be honest the nexus 5 and Dell monitors never bothered me. But a tinted screen does because I spend a lot of time reading on my phone since my pc at work blocks everything.

I'm waiting for them to send me the link for processing a return and I've asked them if I can ship them the phone since I'm leaving on vacation soon.

Ashame since I liked the phone.

I'm guessing they didn't have enough of a bottom bezel with the capacitive buttons. Most phones have significantly more bottom bezel to work with without capacitive buttons.

As for Samsung, they use AMOLED which is backlight free, so its not an issue that they can have a small bezel and capacitive buttons.

yellow doesn't bother me too much~ it's not noticeable for the most part unless you're in a completely white background.

Well either you've had the Note 3 for 10 months already (like myself) and a OPO is not an upgrade, or you can buy a mint Note 3 off swappa for about the same amount of money. By virtue of a lot of people being unable to buy an OPO, I think its fair to say they're not missing out on something they can't get elsewhere. Obviously new vs. used, but it's also 'can buy now' vs 'hope for an invite' and the Note 3 does have some added features.

I'm enjoying the OPO but a large part of it may actually be CM which I've never used on my prior phones. It's a surprisingly well rounded OS with some nice tweaks.

If you don't have either phone and can't get an invite, a mint Note 3 is a decent alternative (or G3 if you're willing to spend more).

I'll probably be hocking my Note 3 now and will pick up the Note 4 next month simply b/c I like variety.

Oh one thing I do like compared to the Note 3 is that I didn't need to install xposed framework and install a bunch of modules to get the phone the way I like:

- most of the customizations I use through Wanam are stock options in CM (don't show x notification, etc)
- the stock apps scale automatically when I change dpi to 380 - I had to use an xposed module on my Note 3 to set things like the phone, camera, erc to stock dpi to look right

Are you sure about the shades? The yellow runs from like 20% - 90% and green afterward. I don't think there's gradients. Its 3 distinct colors in Settings > Display & Lights > Battery Light.

I only noticed yellow when under 30% and then green as it charges upwards. Probably red if it gets really low.

That's weird... lol. Well I'm on CM11 nightlies now, but that's how CM has always been, so maybe 11S has something different that I'm missing.... still I would've caught this in my nearly 2 months with CM11S.
