Ok, this is going to sound a bit weird, but as of last Wednesday I've had this really odd sensation in my feet. Its not quite like my feet are numb (which they aren't), but it kind of feels that way. Last Wednesday I noticed it while walking home from work, as it felt like the bottom of my feet were moving oddly in my shoes. Over the weekend the feeling seems to have spread to the rest of my feet. However, it doesn't seem to be getting any worse now.

Taking my shoes and socks off and sitting down seem to help, but doesn't elminate the problem. My feet appear normal (no bluish or reddish discoloration). Although I think they feel cold, my wife says they are warm.

After searching on the web this appears to be some kind of peripheral neuropathy. While I certainly hope this is not the case, the symptoms I have coupled with my family history means that this could be my first indicator that I have diabetes.

Anyways, has anyone experienced this sort of odd sensation before and recovered feeling in their foot? All the sites I'm seeing say that it is possible to "treat" this conditipon by treating the underlying cause, but none of them say that normal feeling will be regained.

And yes, I am going to see my doc asap.

I do not mean to scare you but my best friend Steve is in the final stages of MS, it started out about fifteen years ago with a tingling feeling in his feet.
He only has a year or two left, I am sure going to miss him.:frown:

I had the same thing happen to my feet when I joined the Air Force. My toes and parts of my feet went numb and felt weird to the touch kinda like when your feet fall asleep and you touch them and .. . yeah just weird. It wasnt until I started wearing tenis shoes again that it finally went away so good luck. What kind of shoes are you wearing?

Good luck man, I hope it nothing serious. MS is a horriible thing to have to go through, so lets go with the shoe problem until you talk to your doctor.

A few things to consider, for the OP:
Are your shoes new?
Maybe they are too small or too rigid and need to be broken in.

Have you changed anything recently that may be related?
Such as sleeping pattern or position, clothes, shoes, increased stress at work, etc.

Is the feeling still there in the morning?
Does the feeling occur on days when you are mostly on your feet?
How about when you have been sitting for most of the day?

UPDATE: I went to the ER on 1/29 and was diagnosed with Guillain Barre syndrome (link). Its a weird kind of neurological disease that is apparently quite rare. Luckily I went to the ER in the very early stages of the disease, and the docs were able to stop its progression before it got too serious.

Unfortunately the disease did get a bit worse, and several nerves in both of my feet were pretty badly damaged. While I should recover completely, the docs say it may take 6-12 months before I will feel my feet "normally" again. While I'm fine with the numbness in my feet (especially considering what this could have done to me), it is annoying, as I pretty much walk like I'm 90 years old now (imagine walking with dangling weights attached to your knees, thats what it feels like to me).

Anyways, I just thought I would update everyone and say thank you for all of the nice emails and replies.

Congratulations on taking care of this so quickly and effectively.
It is sad to hear the problem is something more than tight shoes but you took care of it well.
I wish you good luck with it and a fast recovery.

Wow.
This should serve as a lesson to everyone. When something feels weird, GO TO A DOC. you never know what it can be, and the earlier they catch something the better off you are.
Good luck OP and get well soon!

Wow, I'm glad they caught it early enough to help. I know two people that have/had GBS, and that's strange because it's pretty rare, affecting only a few thousand people in the United States, I understand.

One of the people I know is a guy I used to work with. He had a long, slow recovery, but was able to come back to work fairly quickly because he has a desk job. The other is my neighbor. It hit him hard; three years later and he still walks with a cane. He's a fairly young guy, too.

Good luck to you, man.
