I am just starting to get my feet wet right now. I may confuse terms, so apologies in advance.
I have a precanned framework (I think that's what it's called) where my data comes from.
I have a specific need to pull a report where metrics are reporting daily. I need to make it generic so here goes:
I have a packet counter which counts packets across two routers. I also have applications that are supposed to go to only one of the routers, based upon location. Normally, I make a crosstab report and for applications that are working properly, the "other" router will have a blank. This means everything is normal. I want to focus on only applications that are, for whatever reason, routing to both routers. In essence, I want to try and pare down the quantity of applications reported to only the ones that are routing incorrectly, specifically apps that run over both routers This also needs to be summarized over multiple days (my frameworks already provides daily counters).
I have made the following two queries, then put them into a 3rd intersection query. This report is completely blank.
Query 1: Detail Filter: All Applications that run should be on Router A, but route on Router B
Query 2: Detail Filter: All Applications that run should be on Router B, but route on Router A
I had thought this intersection would give me a crosstab of only the applications that are incorrectly routing. However, when I build the crosstab the resultant report is completely blank.
Things I have done:
-Made sure Query 1 and Query 2 are both from the same selections in the framework, and they both have the same measures and in the same order.
-Ran Query 1 and Query 2 independently in separate crosstabs, and they work as expected.
-I started to tinker with a join, but since Query 1 and 2 come from similar data sources, I don't think this is what I need.
Is my thinking in the right direction at least? We have no Cognos "gurus" in our office as I am treading new water here.
