I got an internship offer, and it will most likely be in Findlay, Ohio.

I like the small town environment..as long as I have internet access. How will the weather be from January to May? Anything there for a 20 year old to do?

Well I figured that was a given.

The only thing I've found so far is fishing. There's a big reservoir next to the city full of fish.

I'm not from Findlay, but I'm from Ohio... the weather will be *cold* between January and May. Cold include freezing rain, hail, snow, tons of ice, etc. Or none of the above -- it all varies. The general coolness of the winter air doesn't go away until mid-April to mid-May, and then returns in mid- to late-September.

If Findlay is like most of the other small towns in Ohio, then no, nothing for a 20 year old to do.

Yah, I figured. Work will keep me busy. I'll probably do a lot of traveling on the weekends to go along with 9/80s. I've never been to that region of the US, so I'll have plenty to see.

I'm originally from pretty close, and I have an uncle who lives there...It's really cold in the winter, and no, there is absolutely nothing to do. Although in 97, when I was in high school, there was a rash of gang activity and violence nearby in Fostoria, which made things interesting at least

Fishing is good; now find a way to send me some fresh fish to NYC and you won't be worried about other things to do in Ohio txrandom!

I went to college in Defiance, pretty close to Findlay.

We used to take small road trips to Findlay, Fostoria, and Napoleon.

This was in the early 70s.... there was nothing to do then, and it probably hasn't changed for the better.

Even the land is flat and boring!

Congrats on the job!

According to my wife, you'll also have to get used to the "Ohio grey". That was the biggest adjustment for her when we moved to Ohio. She was surprised at how often it's overcast during the winter months. I grew up in Ohio so I didn't think anything of it.

Are you working for Whirlpool or Marathon? I don't think there is much else. A long-ago ex was from Findlay. I think they have 3 bars. Ben Rothlesberger is from Findlay.

Marathon. So it appears like Findlay sucks. Maybe I'll get lucky and stay in Houston!

I'm from Tiffin, which is a hop, skip and jump from Fostoria. Actually managed a pizza shop in Fostoria for a year before I moved down here to Texas.

That area is rather boring, but it's only an hour from Cedar Point!

Yeah, it sucks. I seems like 3/4's of our winter is just pure grey, and it's like a massive, four month long buzzkill haha.

i used to drive through Findlay every weekend on my way up north. It seems like a boring little town, but a nice enough community to raise a family. Probably nothing exciting for a 20 year old, except maybe the adult video store with the big sign that everyone can see from I-75

I really didn't notice until my wife said something about it always being grey. Personally, I love fall & winter so the overcast skies are a non-issue for me.

Ohio is always grey.... You cross the state lines and know you are in Ohio because cloud cover increases significantly usually

I lived in Stow OH growing up (about 20 min NE of Akron), and now live in North Canton (about 20 min south of Akron). I hate this state. Living here for a bit would be great, and there is 4 distinct seasons. It can be a very "beautiful" state in the fall. We get up to 110 in the summer, down to -40 in the winter with 6+ inches of snow not uncommon, rain through most of spring, and only about 3 months of good weather (from mid august-mid nov). Then its usually partly cloudy and ~70 (give or take 15 degrees or so). You will be able to enjoy sports of all seasons, but not all year.

As for stuff to do. Downtown Cleveland/Akron have decent bars, Akron is becoming more of a "college city" from the University of Akron. Cleveland has some decent dining, decent bars/clubs, but some damn good events are done by a local radio show (Rover's Morning Glory, they have their 2009 calendar release party coming up in a month or so). Earlier this year they closed down West 6th St (the one most the bars are on) and held a street party. About 20k people were there.

If you WANT to find something to do you can, but it's not as easy as other cities. A lot of the stuff to do is go to the bar and drink stuff. If that's not your thing then you might get bored quickly. We have a sh!t ton of fat people, gross people, ugly people, assholes, and our economy sucks. Find a group of people to hang out with and you should be able to do something every night. Also if you are into the outdoors (hiking/biking/etc) the Akron area has their Metroparks which are nice. You can do a lot of outdoors stuff, but it can be hard to find people that want to do that with you because a lot of Ohioians want to sit inside and do nothing active.

I don't remember off hand where Findlay is, but IIRC its about 30-45 min NW of me. You should be able to find stuff to do .

Likewise.... I actually really, really hate it when it's not overcast out. I wish the sun would go away forever.

The "Ohio Gray" does suck indeed. Winter is a drab, and people susceptible to Seasonal Affective Disorder (winter depression) will probably get it in Ohio. Travel is difficult when the snow comes in, because if anything like last year, always fell with 5+ inches.
Sunny days in winter do occur, but are rare. Sometimes it'll hit 50-60ºF for a few days in January, then plummets to the 20s.
But the overcast rules supreme during Winter and usually mid-to-late fall. It kills me and saps me of natural energy. Sunlight gives me energy which helps with my attention span, even just being inside and having sunlight shine in. And down here at school, you get cooped up because you get tired of trudging through snow to go out.

Findlay, a common thing to do is drink, or sometimes head up to Toledo (my home town) to go shopping or just enjoy a night. But commonly, nights are spent near Bowling Green, Ohio, as BGSU is there, so a university city will offer more fun for a 20 year old, at least once you hit 21. Also, Findlay has a small university, so some nightlight might occur there.

My aunt and uncle run a farm down in Arcadia, which is right outside of Findlay.

Fall and Late spring have GREAT weather, and end of summer heading into fall is usually beautiful. Summer, while it can have its 'cooler' days, will often be in 80s, sometimes 90s, and usually humid, though not as hot and humid as in the South, it's still hot.

I'm also originally from Tiffin, which as mentioned before is about 20 minutes away. I would say that Findlay is a reasonable place, they always seem to have all of the growth compared to Tiffin and the surrounding communities. Since they're right off of I75 you can go North to Toledo or South to Columbus pretty easily which is nice for a break. I would say that night life is probably pretty slow unless you're into college bars which i'm sure there are a few of near the university.

Findlay is definitely up and coming though, they continue to expand on both sides of the city, more than I can say for Tiffin.
