Try it and tell us. Also, I do believe there is a little bit of a break-in period with new batteries. I dont think they are conditioned when they leave the factory, because those folks have no idea how long the thing might sit on a shelf.

As for the camera: You folks need to spend a little time in the Digital and Video Cameras forum so you can learn why its ridiculous to expect even marginal performance from a cell phone camera. If photos are that important to you then carry around a nice little compact camera. Right now Panasonic probably makes the best.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/

At the bottom of this page there are several group tests for last years Xmas season. Most of them are dominated by Panasonic. And they are much cheaper a year later. Also, the ultra-compacts are the same size as your Droid and smaller than your iPhone.

I can't try it, as I don't have a Droid, I have an iPhone. If the rumors of an Android based HD2 pan out, I might switch.

It will be sunday before I'm able to run such a test. I would guess around 5 or 6 hours though. I usually keep screen brightness as low as the slider will go. Even then, the display is extremely bright. Battery Use reports always reports the display as the number 1 power draining 'device' though.

another day has gone by without having to recharge my phone. im pretty happy with that. at the same time, i've been working too much these past couple of days, so it balances out.

So lets say you cut the brightness down to 50%, and leave everything else on, and then stream Slacker or Pandora until the phone died. How long would the battery last?

Dunno about that, but this site did a test with the screen at 100% brightness with it set to never sleep, set the MP3 player to loop, left GPS on in the phone's settings, and used Google Maps Navigation for an hour.

The battery lasted for 7 hours and 1 minute.

I'm sure that if you were using an active GPS connection for the entire time battery life would be even shorter, but based on that test it doesn't seem like the issues are inherent in the battery.

7 hours on 100% brightness? I'm gonna have to call shens.

Yes, I read the article.

It's not ridiculous. The tiny cameras in both my Instinct and BB Curve 8330 took pictures of equal quality (I tried the Droid's camera at both 5, 3 and 2 megapixel settings and while faster at the lower settings, it's still not as fast as my old Curve's) and didn't take a full 5 seconds between shots to save the picture. This is all I expect... I'm not looking for DSLR quality or even compact P&S image quality.

Another thing I've noticed is that it takes the combined inbox ages to sync, even on Wifi. I have it set to sync each of my accounts every 15 minutes and left the phone on last night while charging and there are still messages showing in my Yahoo (imap) inbox showing as being unread (I read them last night on my PC).

Choose option 2.

Updating the PRL is particularly important for people who travel extensively as it keeps the phone up-to-date with the most recent preferred roaming providers. However, it also updates information about preferred local frequencies as well.

I did this today after noticing my 3G wasn't full bars at where I work and sure enough, full bars after doing it.

Thanks for that tip.

Didn't seem to make any difference for me. Whats your PRL version showing at after the update? I might just get cruddy signal on my floor though, going up to the upper floors, I get almost perfect 3G signal.

Mine is 51638. I ran the update last week, no idea if it changed before then.

My Droid crashed again today. Wouldn't turn on with the lock/unlock button or by sliding the keyboard open. Had to pull the battery again. Twice in one week... hmmmm.

sounds like some app is causing problems.
I've had a few apps require Force Close, even Open Home. But it loads right back up and no long term issues. I've only "restart" the phone by turning it completely off once since purchasing it on the 6th. That was just to see if a fresh start would bring better performance.

That's the same with mine. At home, my signal is usually about midway, at work, I've got 9 floors of concrete and drywall above me. At the upper floors, I get perfect 3G. On my floor, it switches between 3G and 1X with minimal signal levels, alternating with sporadic bursts of good signal.

The Droid gets the best signal for me so far. I had a Touch Pro 2 for about 3 weeks - it was pretty bad actually. I'd get 1 bar of 1x at home. Returned that, and was using a Palm Treo 700wx until Droid came out - I got 1 bar of 3G with that. Droid gets 2-3 bars of 3G.

In my experience with the G1, the custom home screen apps (Open Home/aHome) were among the flakiest apps. Definitely force closed on me a lot. I just went with the default, until I started doing full custom ROMs like Cyanogen.

That's odd. I don't think I've ever had that happen with an Android phone - even running experimental custom builds. Usually the worst that happens is a lot of force closes if all hell breaks loose. Maybe somethings wrong with your unit?

also make sure you update the apps. there seems to be a lot of updates fixing bugs with the droid. hopefully that helps

That's something I forgot to suggest.

I have read on a few other forums that people would have a unit that froze a lot or just felt extremely unstable, especially in comparison to other user comments. They went to the store, explained the situation, got a brand new replacement (within 30 day window), and walked away with a unit that did not display those problems.

Plus, all your downloaded apps (the ones currently installed), get downloaded again when you sign on to a new phone. As will the contacts and other info.

yep, I've been downloading all updates as they come. And that's exactly the case, a lot of these apps are getting updated with an incoming hoard of people talking to the devs about issues on the Droid, specifically on Android 2.0 since this is also the only 2.0 phone at the moment (some issues will remain as some devs are European and are currently without any chance of using a 2.0 phone).

Yea they've been good about that. I actually replaced mine because I had a dead pixel, and it redownloaded everything automatically. I had to redo the settings, but that wasn't too bad. I don't think it did that with the G1. They also just swapped the memory card and battery so I didn't have to redo anything there either.

Speaking of memory cards. I had an 8GB class 8 SD card for my G1. I replaced the 16GB card that came with it with that - yea, its less storage, but it comes with a class 2 card. With how much is cached/stored on the card, the class 8 card actually makes a pretty noticeable different in speed. So I'd recommend getting a faster card.

That's interesting... do you notice any difference in the time between taking pictures? Could people such as myself be noticing speed issues because it's taking a long time to write the 5 MP image to the SD card?

Today will be the third day I have owned my droid.
Pros:
Haptic feedback is a great thing, as is the pattern to unlock instead of a pin.
Liking the OS, responsive and easy to use.
Decent signal strength.

Cons:
Apps sometimes stop responding for a moment and then restart. Even built in apps will do this.
The battery cover doesn't latch in place well and I have had it come off a couple of times and nearly lost it once.
The micro-usb doesn't stay in its port very well. Needs a dock, and the dock that will be available soon doesn't have audio out.

The battery cover issue can be resolved at a Verizon store.
I had a very loose battery cover, went to the Verizon store from which I bought my Droid, and they swapped out the battery cover.
This battery cover stays attached far more effectively, but sometimes in my pocket of pants that aren't super loose, the battery cover has come off. But it stays on very easily and takes a lot of grip against the battery cover to force it loose.

I have a question that the Verizon guy at the store answered, but I want to double check: the 29.99 email and web for smartphone plan, is that unlimited? The dude at the store said it was. It is it tied to anything else like minutes, that sort of thing? I don't want to hit the end of the month with a $1000 bill or anything. Basically, I can be browsing and using the internet pretty much all I want?

the Email and Web plan is simply data, everything that uses data will be included in that plan. SMS/MMS and voice will be charged accordingly based on the other features of your overall wireless plan.

If your browsing the web, it is entirely data, no minutes for voice are used. No app will make this distinction hard to tell. If your talking, it's voice. If it's anything that can be said to be using data, it's data.

It's unlimited to a point that unless your doing something seriously crazy, you won't need to worry. Technically, it's unlimited until you hit 5gb. After 5gb, according to the plan's terms, you may be subject to additional charges. If your browsing the web, streaming videos, downloading music, etc etc... it's going to be quite the challenge to go over 5gb in a month.
