the Email and Web plan is simply data, everything that uses data will be included in that plan. SMS/MMS and voice will be charged accordingly based on the other features of your overall wireless plan.

If your browsing the web, it is entirely data, no minutes for voice are used. No app will make this distinction hard to tell. If your talking, it's voice. If it's anything that can be said to be using data, it's data.

It's unlimited to a point that unless your doing something seriously crazy, you won't need to worry. Technically, it's unlimited until you hit 5gb. After 5gb, according to the plan's terms, you may be subject to additional charges. If your browsing the web, streaming videos, downloading music, etc etc... it's going to be quite the challenge to go over 5gb in a month.

That's good to know.

Anyone using a screen protector on theirs? I ordered a shieldzone one earlier today. On my other phones, I've found that they are pretty finger print resistant. Just wondering if there was any impact on the touch screen.

edit: Also, anyone know if it's possible to stream media from a pc to the droid via wifi?

I'm using a screen protector on mine and I don't have any issues. I actually never used it without one so I can't tell you if there's any difference. It doesn't seem to hinder anything, though.

I think I'll be trying to exchange mine though. Third crash when sending a picture via MMS. Had to pull the battery again. I have to say, I do like the web browser. I'm posting this message from my Droid and it renders the forums perfectly.

I just ordered a BodyGuardz screen protector today for mine and my wife's Droid's.

I had them on our iPhones and was a big fan.

I've used the invisisheild that was on my friends iPhone and found it to be to tacky personally.

How is it for resisting fingerprints and "face grease?" Might just order the screen from them and use the rest of the shieldzone kit. I really like how smooth the screen feels. I never found the shieldzone protector to feel too tacky, but haven't really used it on a touch application other than the DS.

It helps reduce finger prints but it's not it's main focus.

It's main purpose is to protect against scratching, which admittedly is pretty hard to do on a glass screen.

But there is a very noticeable reduction in using this vs not using it and finger prints on the screen.

Anybody know if there is an app to lock the phone on vibrate? I keep accidentally putting it in silent mode.

That's good to know.

There is an app that lets your mount a network drive on your windows PC which conceivably could contain mp3's/etc.

Orb does this quite well on the iPhone. I recall a while ago that they were working on bringing it to Android, but I don't know if they ever did.

Droid crashes #5 and 6 tonight. Set it down when I got home tonight and a couple minutes later it played the Droid sound clip. I looked at it and it had the lock screen up. Unlocked it and checked uptime. 1 minute 3 seconds. Checked my mail on gmail, yahoo and msn... set the phone down to get a drink, came back and it wouldn't turn on. Had to pull the battery again.

strangest thing. My phone was fine, I go to wake it up, nothing happens. Hold power button, nothing happens. Had to remove the battery.

Never did that before, and has generally never locked up.

All the while, I've been getting strange little computer issues - apparently, if my screen falls asleep my usb mouse, plugged into the new logitech g110 keyboard, won't wake it up. No problem if I lock the PC though and go to wake it up.
And rebooting? System hangs before POST really even begins (shows CPU model, that's it), unless I hit the reset button and have the mouse unplugged from the keyboard.

Windows is infecting my Droid. Must. Keep. This. Away.

But seriously, I might just uninstall this Force Close app, only thing that has changed this past day, and first time the phone acts up. But it's so handy. Having a full Task Killer is just unnecessary, but this is a nice little app that hangs in the notification shade, and does what it says: force closes whatever app is open. Running and app and don't want it to stay open when you exit? Perfect. Otherwise, let Android handle the memory management.
Though the icon is oddly missing from the notification bar before I pull it down, but you can see a square where the icon should be. This might be getting the axe though it's so perfect in concept.

some of the apps aren't optimized for 2.0, might be a while till everything is stable...

I was having problems with my G1 a few months ago, took off all the apps and added them back slowly, runs fine now...

eh?

You mean the icon that you can swipe to the left at the lock screen, versus swipe right for unluck?
Not sure.

But there are widgets that toggle vibrate/sound, instead of silent/sound. There are both "Silent" and "Vibrate" widgets, that are 1x1, included in Beautiful Widgets.
Also, searching "vibrate widget" brings up a few results in the Market.

That's exactly what I'm expecting, and figure it will be a little while before all the apps I really want are relatively free of Force Closes and other issues. The Droid being the only Android 2.0 device out there, I knew this going into it. But with the Droid representing a large market share, and the Milestone hitting Europe sometime in the near future (Moto's Euro GSM Droid), the 2.0 market share, and specifically the Droid hardware configuration, is going to be the focus of many app developers if they want their paid apps to keep selling.
Hell, I've updated quite a few of my apps a handful of times (each) in the past week alone. Some of these devs admit to difficulty even getting hands on with the Droid due to residing in Europe, yet they still manage to bump up stability for us Droid users. These folks are great.

I put on a full body InvisibleSHIELD by Zagg. By far worth the price of admission. The lifetime guarantee doesn't hurt either.

No, the volume up/down button on the side. I typically keep it on vibrate and either accidentally put it on silent or very low ring. I will search for those apps.

Good to hear. My invisibleshield and 4gb of ram should be here today or tomorrow. Some fun projects to look forward to.

Took my phone to the Verizon store today and they told me to do a hard reset (wipe the phone). I did that, went home, was on the phone for an hour and it froze again so I took it back in while it was frozen and they replaced it. Only thing they wouldn't do is give me a new screen protector. Asshats... at $13 for a three pack from them, that's not very nice.

Well, you didn't use all three already, did you?

If you're the kind of person that would rather have a screen protector instead of a case, get a Zagg, lifetime warranty.

No, I didn't use all three of them... I barely got a chance to use one of the ones I paid for before the phone it was applied to crapped out and had to be replaced. It's not that I don't have more, or that I can't afford the $4-5 that they cost. It's about customer satisfaction. I like to think Sprint learned the hard way from me (I'm now a Verizon customer) that they can't jack their customers around trying to maintain their bottom line and have them just sit there and take it. Not that I'm so arrogant that I think my contract will make or break Sprint, but a quick Google search on Sprint will turn up headlines that include "Sprint" and "hemorrhaging subscribers" in the same sentence.

Regardless, Verizon has serviced me better so far than Sprint did, so as long as this replacement phone holds up I'll be staying with them.

Your comment about cases vs. screen protectors doesn't make any sense at all. First of all, cases don't protect the screen from scratches. Second, due to the Droid's design, the cases available for it suck because the phone can't be docked while in a case and the top row of the keyboard is already cramped due to where the screen rests with the keyboard fully open... adding a case takes away a few more millimeters that some people with adult sized hands can't afford to lose.

Look up the Zagg first. It's not a case, it's a screen shield.

Yes I know, I have screen protectors. They work fine. I just don't like having to toss one out because the phone they sold me was defective. I'm not sure why he brought cases into the discussion because they have nothing to do with protecting the screen from scratches. Might as well have compared screen protectors to car chargers.

Mistake on my part, I'm so used to my otterbox defender, I forget some times.

In hindsight, a pretty irrelevant comment. They probably didn't give you a new one, because you have two others. Do they sell them as singles? If they don't, that could be another reason why the didn't give you a new one, because they'd have to give you another three to cover the one you lost.

Yes, they do sell single packs. The manager told me they can't take inventory off the shelf for that purpose. Seems odd since they basically took a Droid off the shelf to replace my defective one. I guess that's the difference though, the screen protector was not defective... it was just installed on a defective device.

I'm over it. I just thought it would have been a nice gesture on their part considering I had to visit the store twice today due to a defective product.

when my omnia got toasted they gave me a 3 pack because they didnt have any singles. they gave me the same argument at first, and i told them that i had already bought the screen protectors from them, and if they couldnt get mine off the defective phone they needed to give me a replacement. didnt take too much to get them to give me a new one. hell, didnt take much to get them to pay for overnight shipping either. mebbe the store you went to just sucks at that stuff.
