I can attest to that. I dropped mine a few times already on the rough city sidewalks. I've got some tiny marks on the edge - smaller than the ones from that video - but my screen is still pristine.

Has anyone bought the Car Mount Phone Holder for Droid by Motorola?
http://www.motorola.com/consumers/U...toid=5c0dcda87c704210VgnVCM1000008406b00aRCRD

Well I ordered it from Verizon because on the Moto site it said it included a rapid charger and I figured I needed a car charger anyways. Well I'm not sure but I think the big V figured out a way to once again nickel and dime a guy. No charger included. I sent a message to Moto CS so we will see how that turns out. Just needed to let people know that if purchased from Verizon that this will not include the charger.

I had to order both the car mount and charger separately. Some vendors sell packages, I think, that include charger, mount and a few other items.

when my omnia got toasted they gave me a 3 pack because they didnt have any singles. they gave me the same argument at first, and i told them that i had already bought the screen protectors from them, and if they couldnt get mine off the defective phone they needed to give me a replacement. didnt take too much to get them to give me a new one. hell, didnt take much to get them to pay for overnight shipping either. mebbe the store you went to just sucks at that stuff.

Yeah... I could have asked to actually speak to the manager, but I didn't feel like it was worth my time. Especially considering the link posted by eggshin (I saw it a week or so ago).

Anyone getting random reboots? I know this is a known issue but mine isn't constant. I am contemplating returning it for a new one at this point before my 30 days are up.

I was getting reboots approximately every 48 hours, but when I uninstalled the "TasKiller" app the reboots stopped. My current uptime is over 67 hours.

You know the 30 days is only if you want a refund, right?

The device should have a one year warranty, which means whenever something bad happens, VZW will replace it.

I just removed that and had the same thought as I was going through my applications. Linux doesn't need such an application in my opinion since it handles memory properly out of the box. I was kind of curious if killing running applications, especially ones that the phone runs automatically would cause any instability. I have removed everything that isn't android2.0/droid capable (changelog confirmation) and I'm going to see if that fixes my issues.

basslover:

I was under the assumption that they would replace it within the first 30 days no questions asked but not after a full year. I've read lots of people racing to get theirs replaced before this 30 day time period. I'm not saying you're wrong but trying to clarify.

edit: to clarify, I had 'Automatic Task Killer' installed, not "TasKiller'

I have TasKiller and I don't have any reboots - I'm at about 110 hours uptime right now (and it was last down because the battery died, not because the phone crashed).

furthermore, mine isn't a constant 'crasher/rebooter' as I've seen lots of posts about. Most say when theirs crashed it shows the white motorola logo and that their phones crashed constantly. Mine has only done it 4 or 5 times total in the 2 weeks I've had it. Everyone with a crasher is telling me not to even bother and get it replaced but I don't know if mine is really 'that bad' or in the same pile.

An educated guess is that a batch of these has bad physical memory on them which causes the crash. It would be REALLY helpful if they provided a kernel dump or crash log for this phone when it dies. I downloaded the SDK, I'm going to see if there's any way to get one.

Its definitely easier during the 30 days, because you can technically return the phone for any reason - so why wouldn't they replace it for you?

Question.
I am the type of person who installs and uninstalls alot of apps because I like to try them out and if i don't like them they get removed. This is my first Android device. Does android totally uninstall all the files associated with an app when doing the uninstall or does it leave some files in the registry like windows?

Mine only crashed twice and stopped after I got rid of TasKiller, so I doubt that mine has an issue with physical memory.

Yours only crashed twice total? I think both of our issues are software based problems but there is a bad batch of phones out there. I would keep an eye on it, if it crashes again you might look into replacing it until there's an official word from Moto about this.

Out of curiosity, what were you doing when it crashed and what did the unit display after the crash? Was it just the word DROID after a 5 second black screen pause or did it do a full reboot with the Motorola White Bat logo?

Random question, but how can you check if there's an update to an installed app?

Having an ipod touch, this article really holds true:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/11/17/android.wired/index.html

Edit: nevermind, found it - you need to go to the marketplace, hit the menu button, click "downloads" and then scroll down the list of downloaded apps to see if there's an update available.

Actually, you get a notification automatically. At least that's what happened with Twidroid.

FWIW I went ahead and exchanged my phone today. It crashed on me twice today and I'm not down with that shit.

New droid seems much faster.. could be placebo but there's no lag anymore. Bonus is it appears google stored all my settings because I didn't have to do a thing and I didn't transfer the memory card over.

Anyone know of an App that activates the screen when the screen is touched and displays the swipe code without having to hit the power button, I find it annoying that there are two steps to activate your phone and I found an app that eliminates the slider screen but I'd rather eliminate the need for a button press.

That would defeat the purpose of a lock button... keeping the phone in your pocket would activate the touch screen.

your pocket doesn't have electricity running through it... or does it?

capacitive screens require the human touch. Well, the touch of life, if you will. Hmm, I like both of those.

But seriously, if the display is off, the touch sensors are off. Just the way touch displays work, unless I am mistaken.
Thus, no app can be provided. Since the bottom buttons are technically touch as well, that means only the top and side buttons will work.
An app MIGHT be capable of using the camera button or volume rocker to wake the phone, but... really kind of provides no benefit.

And as I say that, it is this morning that I realize I might just indeed have a dead pixel. Thankfully, it is in the bottom right corner. If it weren't glass I'd try the rub the pixel technique, but regardless, it's in the least annoying spot it could be in, so there is a positive way to look at this problem.

There is an app that is supposed to fix dead pixels. Search it

No it wouldn't, the screen will remain "locked enough" until the correct swipe pattern is entered, I don't care if it turns on now and again I just con't want it opening random apps. PLus I could always choose to lock the screen with the button requiring a second button push to turn it on (assuming said mythical app didn't change this).
