Cal, UCLA, and UCSD are all definitely on the same level in terms of education. What it comes down to is what kind of atmosphere and social life you want. UCSD is very laid back and relaxed, UCLA is a lot more upbeat from what I hear, and Berkley is well Berkley.

Just curious...how does the campus life on those UCs compare to UCSB?

UCSD is a great school. No doubt. But Berkeley in terms of global prestige is without equal aside of Harvard. Global surveys show this in peer reports.

Heck, one could get a great education at CC, but myopic employers (i.s. HR) look at this stuff. Perception is reality--unfortunately.

Regardless, UCSD will be a blast for anyone that could get in.

The only difference is the type of GE's that you have to take, as well as the location where you live. I myself go to Muir, which is known to have the easiest GE's, so most people there are undeclared. I know Revelle is for more Pre-Med people I think...Marshall is for more liberal arts (i think), and I'm not too sure about 6th...perhaps poli sci or something like that

I know Warren is more of a engineering school, whereas Roosevelt is more liberal arts. Not positive though. The only ones I'm pretty sure about are Muir, Revelle, and Warren

i go there. CHOSE MIUR!!! i chose revelle, and i'm regretting it.

Why is that? Revelle is supposed to be one of the 'prestigious' colleges.

Revelle is for those wishing to be stuck there for 5-6 years taking classes you'll never actually use.

Care to explain? I graduated from Revelle, and I actually apply every single one of those courses in my job everyday.

I also chose UCSD (Revelle in particular) over UCLA and UCB. The weather is perfect, and my job is in La Jolla as well.

I really differ from your opinion. Respectfully.

No disparagment intended, but I don't see them sitting on the same level at all in terms of excellence.

UCLA & Cal >> UCSD in most everything. Maybe UCI > UCSD too.

And the overall environmental pleasantness at UCSB is > UCSD. I don't know how to contrast their relative strengths in different fields. UCSB is real strong in engineering, chem, physics, materials, has 3 Nobel laurates in science.

UCSD's distinctions are mainly Scripps Ocean & a medical school.

That's my perspective, having earned my Masters at UCLA.
