OK, yeah, I'm not up on newer Lotus things by a long shot.

I'll admit that in a heartbeat.

Have you looked at the map of superchargers? They're littered across the country and if you look at the future map, they'll really be covering the whole country. You focus on what I'd consider to be a minor problem, the potential of wanting to drive across the country and not wait more than 10-20 minutes to charge your vehicle for FREE I might add. Doing long road trips like that is an unusual driving pattern for most people's driving habits. For $100K, you can get a car that is so significantly different and faster than anything on the road, it's an experience unlike any other. This isn't me suggesting OP buy a Nissan leaf or some low range, not a really special driving experience but a Telsa Model S.

The cars OP has listed aren't exactly highway cruisers nor are they vehicles you'd want to take a road trip in so I think your point about road trips is rather stupid.

I'ma buy a Tesla looks like the closest charging station is almost exactly 1/2 the distance from my house that the charge lasts. I could buy it and just drive it strictly back and forth between the charging station and my house.

you could but if you're on time of use electric billing, it's so cheap to charge at home, it might not be worth it. You'd only be saving maybe $500 a year on electricity.

This thread is hilarious, on so many levels. I'll post the [very satisfying] conclusion tomorrow.

This thread gives me a headache.

A Model S is not a "fun" car. I've had plenty of fun cars and I now have a Model S. To put it nicely, if you think that a reasonably powerful sedan is anything like driving an actual sports car, I can only assume you've never actually driven either.

Also, I consider the mid engine Porsches to be superior driving experiences to the 911. Porsche should embrace them more and stop keeping them as a lower tier. They're better vehicles.

Cool story, bro.

Cool.

Now you have the car that all the people who say "the answer is always miata" only believe because they have never driven one.

The answer is never always Miata. The answer is probably never always anything.

But this thing is the answer to a lot of questions, most notably: "What's the most fun sports car you can buy...period?"

Very nice, congrats.

Thanks so much!

That looks like torrance beach. I grew up there. Is that the 981 as the title suggests (I assume it is)? What year?

Really liking it man.

It's south Redondo, so close!

And yeah, it's a 2015 981 Boxster GTS. One of maybe around 1000 in the US. And if Porsche goes through with their Turbo 4s on the GTS for the mid-cycle 981 refresh (which it seems more and more likely that they'll do), it's literally an instant classic.

Tried reading the first page of this thread and man it's all over the place. How can you cross shop an enormous 4 door sedan against a much smaller 2 seater convertible ??? They're completely different cars. If you want a sports car the Boxster is great. If you want a bigger, quieter, daily driver the tesla is great. Neither does what the other does well, at all really.

Edit. Saw the Boxster, congrats. That'll be a lot of fun give us the details.

Man, maybe it's just my age or that I'm not financially well off to justify (what I'm assuming with options and yaddi yaddi yah) a $75k-80k for a car like that. Being the entry-level porsche has a lot to live up to its older brothers, but i heard nothing but great things about the new Boxster S. Congrats on the purchase!

That's the funny thing about this particular Boxster (it's a GTS, by the way):It's not better than the 911, it's just different. I mean, there are Cameros with practically double the HP that cost half as much. It obviously isn't all about power/speed.

But watch ANY review of the 981 Boxster GTS on Youtube, and every. single. one. will have at least something like one of the following phrases:

"I don't know that I'd want to be driving a different car right now"

"This may be the most fun sports car you can buy"

"What more could you possibly need?"

"This is the best sport scar Porsche makes"

"This car is just about perfect"

And from the early returns I can say one thing: They're all right.

Fantastic car. Boxster is my favorite Porsche... If they could fit some sort of backseat (to to move my kids) I'd get one (Cayman, not Boxster)

What differentiates a Boxster GTS from the Boxster S?

I've looked at pre-owned (used) Boxsters from time to time. You can find 2013-2014 low mileage Boxster S models for around $50k pretty easily.

And yeah, I've heard nothing but positive reviews of the Boxster, especially the newer ones.
