Anyone got an Xperia Z2?

I am thinking of getting rid of my S4 and getting a Z2. Nothing particularly wrong with the S4, it's been solid, but I had an S2 previous and I feel like I've been looking at TouchWiz for a lifetime. I am looking for something fresh.

Anybody got a Z2? Good points, bad points? Obviously I've done my research online but would like the opinions of AT users who are likely to have a bit more tech knowledge than the usual reviewers.

This thing isn't being released in the US (so far), so a lot of US-based posters won't even have it on their radar.

I don't have it (yet?), so I can't comment from actual usage experience, but I've said it before around here somewhere, that I think this is *the* top flagship phone of 2014. Well at least until the Z3 possibly comes out in a couple of months :\

Its only opponent from my point of view is the LG G3, and if amazing screen is extremely important to you, then get that, but otherwise, get a Z2.

It was on eBay for a while last week for $599, and I'm very close to grab one. The one thing that held me back is the fact that HTC has promised 'L' upgrade for my HTC One within 90 days of Google's release (and they have shown that their words are good), and to be honest I doubt that the Z2 will get it.

Assuming you either have an unlocked S4 or a MDK, why not flash an AOSP ROM to scratch the itch? It's pretty rock solid for American S4 models.

I just received my Z2 last week, I've been keeping an eye on prices and they finally dropped to a level I was comfortable spending. I am coming from a G2 and shortly before that an M7 I guess here are some of my quick thoughts on it compared to what I've had.

Definitely a noticeable increase and weight and device size with no increase in size/resolution of the display. I had considered a G3 because of this but now after a week with my Z2 I've confirmed to myself that I prefer a premium handfeel even if it sacrifices usability. The phone looks and feels gorgeous. I also felt the iPhone 5 kind of felt cheap compared to the 4 and this reminds me of the 4 with a not as gorgeous edge. I picked out the purple one, and it did not disappoint compared how it looked online. OH I also love the notification LED, I haven't tested if it is full RGB but I love how large of an area it illuminates.

Speakers are not quite as loud as the M7, but definitely better than my G2, some of the factory Xperia notifications seemed just very quiet but I was happy with the volume after changing them to some of the other offerings.

I really like the UI compared to the G2, I am not big on flashing new roms. I am happy the light blue LG used for switches/sliders/highlights is gone. I am a big fan of the thin and light fonts Sony seem to use and how icons highlight to a white color instead of that blue (man I sound picky typing this out). Also seems like a lot less clutter in the UI.

Haven't compared the camera much, the preview seems much smoother and the photos seem better at first glance, I just picked up a compact SLR so really I haven't tried to use it for anything besides quick snaps to text to friends.

Overall for me I am glad I made the change I really like the build quality and U I, this is the type of phone I will actually put a nice case on and baby vs the G2 that I felt pretty indifferent about. I don't know if its something I can recommend to anyone else if I didn't know they were in to the whole premium feel thing because in the end it is bigger, heavier, and more expensive with no real benefits.

EDIT: Not sure if it matters but I am on ATT, service so far has been great after setting up the APN. I haven't quite gotten the speeds on LTE I've gotten on my iPhone 5 but that was almost 2 years ago and the network may just be more congested. I do like how the signal indicator for if you are on lte/3g/hspa+

Z2 has everything you need...water proof..great camera.....great build quality. It has wireless charging built in as well.

I live in Saudi Arabia, I bought a Z2 as a gift for my brother who's studying in Malaysia. I had the phone for a few days till I shipped it to him and found it to be THE perfect android phone. Front facing speakers ( not as loud as my M7; but is clearer), a dedicated camera button, 3GB RAM, beautiful 1080P screen, mSD slot..etc

It's my favorite 2014 flagship, but not one I'd buy just to get the improvement from LG G2 to Xperia Z2, or Samsung S4 to Z2 for that matter. I'd expect it to be significantly bulkier. Even the G2 felt quite a bit more substantial to me in hand than the S4.

The S4's camera was seriously disappointing to me compared to the LG G2's; maybe in that area an upgrade is worth it.

Speakers and battery life should also be noticeably better.

Keep in mind Sony seems to be moving to a 6 month release cycle, so the Z3 is actually close to being unveiled. Who knows when it'll reach the US though.

He probably meant the magnetic charging system which does come built in with the Z2.

It's a big upgrade. The screen is worlds better.

How much is the Z2 going for in the US? If it's anywhere near full price, IMO you should wait.

Sony's updated phone should be out in a month or two, the G3 is an interesting phone, and rumors point to a Samsung F/Alpha phone in Sept, along with the Note 4.

Of course if it's available at a good discount, it's a great phone by all reports.

if you are on T-mobile, and t-mobile has LTE band 12 licenses in your area (check here), might want to wait for Z3

rumored to have band 12 support. Seeing that Sony has a 6-month flagship cycle, Z3 should be released in September.... dunno when/if they'll actually have the band-12-Z3 available IN september though
