Ok, so my question is how useful is it for you?

What do you you all use it for? Or is it just a waste of space?

There is also a 12V plug in the center console as well but I know that might be more useful as compared to the rear cargo area one.

I have one but it doesn't work. I've never felt like taking all the panels apart to fix it.

It would be convenient to use with my 12V air pump to reinflate my spare tire instead of having to drag it all the way out and roll it up towards the front to use one of those sockets, but whatever.

Could their be any risk of some devices like coolers draining the car battery you think?

On another note, what do you use your 12V located in the center console for?

i've only used them for the little portable air compressor to top up tires. the front one for powering the gps. once in a long while for an inverter->laptop

if the 12v jack only comes on when the engine is running you shouldn't be killing the battery with a cooler

I had one in my last car, and almost never used it. When I did, it was for one of those 12V coolers. It was switched off with the key, so no worries about draining the battery with it.

I used it twice in 7 years. Unless you're pumping bike tires and beach balls up on a weekly basis, I wouldn't pay extra or expend effort to put one in my car. My current car has one in the middle of the dash, and one in the center console. A second one up front is massively more useful than one in the back.

I put things in all of my 12v outlets.. pretty much no matter where they are. Radar detector, cellphone charger, mp3 charger, power inverter, or laptop charger.

Yes, in the back of my Grand Cherokee. I Use it with an inflator.

I sometimes sit back there with the tailgate up and I will use it then for various things.

If you left stuff plugged in all the time, yeah.

I use my forward plugs for powering my tire inflator, my GPS, and my cell phone dock. Or any other random occasional stuff

Yes, in my Expedition, use it quite often. Tailgate party (inverter, it's a 20A 12v). Electric cooler on a road trip. Ran a Xbox360 on one road trip to play on the already built in fold down screen/dvd player. I've used it alot.

That's what I'll do sometimes. I'll sit back there and have a little party. The 12V outlet is handy.
