for bulldogs then, (and in general) how are they raising them as puppies? How much time should i need to spend with them everyday for them to be brought up right?

Jack Russells are pretty high energy dogs that I don't think would make good apartment dogs, unless you got an adult dog.

In regards to where to get a good purebred dog, do research on finding reputable breeders. Go to the akc.org website and find breed specific clubs and these clubs can recommend breeders in your area to visit/check out.

Bulldogs REQUIRE a lot of attention if you want a well behaved dog. I am talking ALL bulldogs. Bulldogs have a strong personality and I would describe them as stubborn. They play hard and love you to death. I will never own another breed other than bulldogs. I have gone through beginner and intermediate training with both of my dogs. This will eliminate the bull in a china store syndrome.

I have two mutts but I know the parents in both cases. Lucy is an american bulldog(small 60lb female) mixed with boston terrier(large,30lb, boston terrier not the AKC phenom). Dozer is an american bulldog mixed with english bulldog.

Lucy is a lot less stubborn than Dozer. Gender does play a role but Dozer's half english side shows itself most of the time. Lucy is 50lbs and Dozer is only 55lbs.

You will never have a more loyal dog than a bulldog.

DO NOT buy into this type of stuff. They are breeding unhealthy dogs to get the smaller size. Breeders should be breeding for health as a first priority. Not size.

If an english is too big, look for another breed. If you want smaller look at something like a Boston Bulldog.

Uh, that's how all breeds were created. Do you think bulldogs were bred for health? They need to be delivered via C-section. You think that is a natural phenomenom?

I'm not one for spending large amount if cash on a dog but if I wanted a purbread, I sure as hell would lay out the cash in order to get a dog from a respected breeder who will guarentee the health of the dog. This is probably super-important for a bulldog, considering the possible health issues they face.

Yeah they were bred for health prior to the AKC getting a hold of them. Go and look at what english bulldogs used to look like.

English bulldogs have enough problems as they exist today without idiots trying to breed for size first then health.

Why do english bulldogs need artificial insemination and c-sections? Because of stupid breeders not breeding for HEALTH FIRST.

Healthy english bulldogs will not meet the requirements for the AKC appearance Flat out.

AKC is all about appearance.

Does that mean all AKC dogs are bad? Heck no but what it means is that a AKC dog has been breed to have a certain appearance. If that is what you want then that is what you should get.

In my opinion, form follows function. I give both of my dogs jobs to do. They are working breeds and appearance/form comes second to being able to work.

see if you can find an english on petfinder.com

There are many adult dogs that need a good home and some are already house trained.

Sunflower

My co-worker had an american bulldog. The co-worker was a horrible manipulative b!tch, but her dog was fantastic.

Sounds like a cat. No offense, but judging by your posts, I think you need to hold off on getting a dog until you know a bit more about them.

Think really hard on this. I don't know how much time you have for a dog, but puppies are like babies.

Do you want a friend/companion who would be grateful for a home and who knows some things or a baby?

Agreed. Dogs are far more demanding on your time than you think. About the only way they are just going to "be there" is if you have more than one adult dog and they can keep each other occupied. With puppies you will be spending a lot of time with them, or you will have a dog prone to misbehave strictly to get your attention. Might I recommend a dog like Rowdy on the show Scrubs?

I understand the tempation. There isn't anything much cuter than a little ball of fur. All dogs will need your attention/care, but puppies do need more.

If you buy an older dog/retired show dog from a breeder, they usually will still guarantee the health. If you do a rescue, you have their vet or yours, but usually no health guarantee.

One of my favorite breeds, but likely too big for your apt.

Got my dog from a rescue here in DC. Going through a breeder never crossed my mind.
